The Atlas Carbon Storage Hub proposed by Shell, Suncor, and ATCO would store CO 2 emissions generated in the Alberta Industrial Heartland region. If built, the storage hub would store CO2 emissions captured by Shell’s proposed Polaris Carbon Capture project, as well as potential carbon emissions from Suncor and ATCO’s proposed Heartland Hydrogen Hub. Atlas would also serve as an open-access hub to store CO2 from other third-party industrial sources. Atlas would safely and permanently store CO2 underground under areas of Beaver County and Camrose County. on Sunday, June 18, and enjoy an activity-packed day of food and family fun.

Start the day of festivities with the Rosalind Fire Department Association’s 3rd Annual Fireman’s Breakfast, to be served from 9 a.m. until noon.

After you satisfy your appetite, settle in to watch the Rosalind Fire Association’s first Truck Pull from noon until 2 p.m.

Teams of six people will compete to pull a 33,000 pound truck 100 feet, all vying for the fastest time. The Truck Pull includes a $250 entry fee with all proceeds going towards Muscular Dystrophy.

“During the breakfast and part of the Truck Pull, we will be hosting our first annual Junior Marketplace Day sponsored by the Rosalind Agriculture Society,” noted Rosalind Agriculture Society member Maureen MacDonald. “We have approximately 13 children set up at eight tables participating in our Junior Marketplace Day.”

The idea behind the Junior Marketplace Day came about at the Ag Society monthly meeting and discussions, regarding the Provincial Lemonade Day slated for June 17.

“It is such a great idea, but wasn’t going to work for our community, so we decided to create the Junior Marketplace day instead (hosted by the Rosalind Agriculture Society).

We paired it up with other things happening in hopes to maximize our day.”

All the participants are local children who are hand making items to be showcased for purchase. “We have everything from painted rocks, lemonade, popcorn, home decor to farm fresh eggs, bird feeders, and baked goods,” said Maureen.

“The kids joined me for a Kids’ College Day on the May 13, when they learned about things such as food sensitivities and proper labeling, the importance of advertising, how to count and keep track of inventory, how to keep track of money and make change for customers.”

The participants created advertisement posters that are being displayed in the Rosalind Ag Society Monthly Newsletter.

“We are excited to see the kids so engaged and they are excited to make some extra money for summertime fun.”

What better way to spend Father’s Day than supporting the Rosalind Fire Association and the amazing volunteers who keep the community safe, the Rosalind Ag Society that continues to promote the important role agriculture plays in all our communities, and the youth and their efforts to learn about business and keeping things local.

Camrose Interclub 4-H Beef Show awards

Seed cleaning plant opens

Paul King and Reeve Cindy Trautman, officially cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the $7.4 million new facility in Millang Industrial Park on May 25.

“Over the last few years Camrose County has been working on the strategic plan for regional economic development and the seed cleaning plant enhances that plan with a state of the art facility. The superior location with logistical advantages coupled with the endless productivity has brought our agricultural community together with facilities to support the future,” said Reeve Trautman.

“The Camrose County Seed Cleaning Plant is the only municipally owned plant in Alberta. It is financially self-sustainable. This location and facility makes way for future investment in value added agriculture. Camrose County strives to continue to be both visionary and progressive,” said Trautman.

“This project began back in 2019 with a coffee conversation. We proposed a new plant within a five year window. Our old plant was limited with space with the trucks that producers are driving today. As well the yard was shared with the Battle River School Division and agricultural services that were demanding more and more space. This was an opportunity to move the plant somewhere else,” said Camrose County CEO King.

“We wanted to locate outside of the city to avoid issues with noise, smell, dust and lights. We were fortunate that Millang Industrial Park was developed and had land set aside as reserve. The construction of the plant was included in the 2021 capital budget with an original amount of $7.3 million. This was an acceleration of the timeline because the council was eager to see this project move forward,” explained King.

“The finished budget came in at $7.8 million and we completed the project in four years. Considering COVID and problems with supplies, we were pretty happy to stay within a contingency of six per cent,” said King.

Camrose County built the first seed cleaning plant in the province with both municipal and provincial funding back in 1949. A new plant was built in

A new facility was built and lasted until 2022. This January, the state of the art facility was opened for testing and it has at least two and half times the amount of storage capacity of the previous plant. The grain can be processed twice as fast and the spacious facility allows for easy movement of huge trucks.

The new seed cleaning plant has 900 cubic metres or 2,160,000 kilograms of concrete; 70,000 linear feet of rebar, 38,000 square feet of metal cladding, 16 kilometres of electrical wire and 500,000 pounds of structural steel.
