POETASTER combines imagery from the artist’s series of paintings “POEMS” and text appropriated from a superhero themed dictionary he received as a child. The text is unaltered with the exception of the word “cartoon” replacing a proper noun in the definition of “sad”. POETASTER is a limited edition of 250 copies. Published in conjunction with the exhibition Matthew Strauss / Dead Language, part of the Great Rivers Biennial 2006 organized by the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis. This book was designed by Bruce Burton and Matthew Strauss and type set in Bell MT and Monotype Italian Old Stlye. The book is printed on Rolland Opaque 65# cover, an acid free recycled 20% post-consumer paper. Printed and bound in St. Louis, Missouri.
