We would like to welcome you to our first internet sale, which we will host in conjunction with www. liveauctions.tv. The cattle can be viewed by photo or video at our website www.harvieranching.com or on the LiveAuctions website. Also available on our website are herdsires, donor cows and a gallery of cows used in our herd. Please feel free to take a virtual tour of our operation and contact us at anytime. Our offering this year will be progeny from the heart of our program that come from our top cow families. Our goal has been to stray away from fads and select what works best for us. In doing so, we have selected sires from around the world that carry traits that would be beneficial for our herd. These traits consist of feed efficiency, structural soundness, adaptability, maternal strength, udder quality, testicle development, milking ability, calving ease, performance and carcass data. Once these bulls are integrated into our herd we use strong cow families and line-breeding to maintain the traits so they will progress from generation to generation. The result has been a set of Herefords that are consistent, marketable and profitable. Too keep up with all the new testing our entire sale offering has been DNA tested and are free of any genetic abnormalities. The featured cow families in the sale this year are the Firefly’s, Ronda’s, Nylon’s, Unique’s, Omega’s, Tara’s and Joan’s. Each family has proven to produce donors, sires, and show winners. Each family offers an exclusive investment for you to incorporate into your own herd. As a last note we would like to invite you to the 2012 World Hereford Congress in Olds, Alberta next July. Terms & Conditions Sale Start: Online bidding will start on October 7, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. CST, with the internet gavel coming down on the first lot at 7:00 p.m. CST October 11, 2011. Lots will then proceed to sell one after the other until all lots are sold. A sale order will be posted by 9:00 a.m. on October 11, 2011. Phone in bids will be accepted at the numbers listed below on this page for those without internet access. Videos of sale lots will be available for viewing at www.harvieranching.com and www.liveauctions.tv closer to the sale. Terms & Conditions: Terms of sale are cash. After sale ends Harvie Ranching will bill all winning purchasers. The cattle are being sold under the standard terms and conditions recommended by the Canadian Hereford Association. Breeding Guarantee: We guarantee all animals are sold as sound breeders. However, if we feel a heifer has been fed to an extreme level of obesity for the showring, we hold the feeder responsible for any reproductive problems and we will no longer be responsible for guaranteeing the reproductive soundness of that individual’s animal. In the rare case of this occurrence, we will aid the buyer in attempting to breed the heifer, but we do not guarantee success. If a heifer is flushed before she has her first calf, Harvie Ranching no longer will guarantee that she is a breeder. All bulls will be guaranteed that they will pass a semen test in the Spring of 2012. If the bull calf doesn’t pass a semen test a sale credit will given to purchaser. Partnership cattle: Harvie Ranching reserves full possession on all partnership cattle after their show career is done. All natural calves will be split between purchaser and Harvie Ranching and will be marketed in one of Harvie Ranching annual production sales. Maintenance cost per year is $1000 split between purchaser and Harvie Ranching. Flushing/Semen Collection: Harvie Ranching reserves the option to flush any female sold in the sale at the buyer’s convenience and Harvie Ranching’s expense. Harvie Ranching reserves the right to collect 100 units of In Herd Use only semen on any bull sold in the sale. Show Rights: Harvie Ranching reserves the right to show any of the animals that are in the sale. Show costs will be split between Harvie Ranching and the purchaser. Delivery: Harvie Ranching will help the purchaser with arranging delivery on their purchase as soon as possible after the sale. How To Participate: In order to participate in the online auction you will need to pre-register and obtain a buyer number. To do this go to the LiveAuctions website, www.liveauctions.tv, and select Harvie Ranching Online Auction. After logging in there is a link you can select that says, “register for a buyer number.” This form requires you to fill out your bank’s name, city, state, phone number and a contact. You may register to bid after bidding has opened but please remember that authorization to bid is not instantaneous. How The Auction Works: Once you have a username and have received a buyer number then you are ready to bid. You will see a screen that is unique to your user ID. There will be a list containing the sale lots. If you click on a lot the video clip or photo will be displayed to the right. The next bid, current price, proxy bid, and manual bid buttons will be displayed below the video area. This page will react to your bids by stating, “you are in” or “you are out.” No one else will be able to see your bid – that data is not accessible to the public. Each time you login, the auction screen will display your personal bidding information. Your auction screen is unique and private displaying your activity to only you. Remember that you must have the lot that you are bidding on selected. This is where it tells you if you are in or out. It is here where you can also see your proxy (automatic) bid settings as applicable. What is a Proxy Bid?: With a proxy bid you can enter your maximum bid and then sit back and watch. When you enter a proxy bid amount the LiveAuctions system automatically bids on your behalf up to your maximum bid. If the lot closes out for less than your maximum, that’s all you’ll have to pay. This means that you don’t have to keep coming back to re-bid every time another bid is placed. This makes it more convenient and less time consuming. It can also greatly assists those breeders that can’t be near a computer or are busy with other duties at the time of the final bidding. Your maximum amount is kept confidential from other bidders and the seller. Even though you can see this amount on your screen, no one else can. The LiveAuctions system compares your bid to those of the other registered bidders and the system automatically places bids on your behalf, using only as much of your bid as is necessary to maintain your high bid position. The system will bid only up to your maximum amount as necessary to maintain you as the high bidder. If another bidder has a higher maximum, you’ll be outbid and the system will tell you that “YOU’RE OUT.” But, if no other bidder has a higher maximum you win the final bid.
