Guarantee: All cattle guaranteed breeders. Standard Canadian Hereford Association Guarantee applies. Health: Cattle will be sold in compliance with the health laws of the Province of Alberta. This is in a tuberculosis and

Welcome! A very sincere welcome to this first Holloway Hereford sale with Blume Ranches as guest contributors. This is the 51st sale welcome we are writing. It would appear to be the last, as the 14 Wabash bulls in this sale are the final group to be sold from the Blume Hereford program. Hereford cattle have been at the forefront of our ranch since Father, John E., bought the first three registered heifers home from S.P. Gould in 1941. Bull sales, Production sales, as well as private treaty business have been the order of the day for 70 years. The many friends we have made over the years are the reward for having been in the industry as Hereford breeders. Our wish is that you support the Holloway family as the Blumes have been supported. Les and his crew have assembled a great set of registered cows, along with an excellent bull battery. The cattle are handled in a practical manner alongside a large commercial herd of straight Herefords. The registered cattle MUST perform to make it in this herd. The top end is on offer February 24, 2011. We so look forward to meeting old friends and new on sale day at the Blume Ranch on Feb. 24.

We look forward to meeting each of you who are able to join us on this day. We are optimistic about the animals we are offering in this sale. We feel they are a positive contribution to the Hereford breed and believe in the ability of these cattle to do well in a wide variety of conditions. We would be happy to talk with you about your cattle needs, male or female, at any time and discuss how we can contribute to your plans for your herd. We have experience raising both purebred and commercial cattle and are familiar with both the rewards and challenges involved. We are committed to marketing sound productive cattle that will reward your investment in the marketplace. The Holloways Herd History....
Our roots in the Hereford industry go back to when my Dad (Dave) started his herd in 1945. He was a firm believer in always using the best bull he could afford and keeping the best quality heifers for breeding When I started my own herd in the 1970’s, I experimented with other breeds but came back to settle with Herefords because of their temperament and the economics of raising easy doing, highly productive cattle.

Holloway Farms was started in the 1980’s with my Dad and then my brother Nelson joining full time in 1986. We bought our first Blume bull in 1983 and liked him so much we have been buying Blume bred Herefords every year since. Several times over the years we have purchased the top selling animal at the sale including 78Z in 1992. Our first Blume female was purchased in 1989 and we have been building our own purebred herd since then. We started using the purebred herd we developed to raise purebred bulls to service our commercial herd while increasing the registered female numbers as well. We still do that today, breeding 400-500 commercial females and about 200 registered purebred Hereford females. We were very fortunate to be able to purchase the good females that the Blumes kept in December of 2009 and are proud to join with them in our first production sale in 2011. 5

When we picked sale heifers we just did a gate run sort so we are selling the same quality of heifers that are going into our own herd, serviced by the same sires. We expect very few calving difficulties. Last year we calved 430 cows and 120 heifers without needing the services of a vet for anything. Our steer calves have gone to YT feed lot for the past 10 years where the late Russell Jones said they averaged just short of 4 lbs per day gain. Take a close look. These cattle cross well with any breed out there.
