I would like to both invite and welcome you to the 2014 edition of the Standard Hill Connection. This sale will be the fourth sale offering Standard Hill genetics in both the Hereford and Angus breeds, while it is the ninth sale to offer Standard Hill Angus and Double P Angus genetics. Change is often a positive thing, but of course it’s always a matter of perspective. We’ve all been through the tough times and we’ve all seen some good times. It’s the highs and lows that make this life interesting, and it’s our own attitude that will portray whether we are successful at our life’s missions or not. The success of this sale is one of my life’s missions. It is the culmination of all the past: the great hishis tory of both breeds, the people who developed and bred the animals, the fathers and wives and the families that used the cattle to survive, and the passion of cattle producers through history. History has produced this opportunity in time. This sale is the future: it is how I plan to do my part to raise my family, to honour all the history with progression to the best of my ability, to build the breeds, and to create a business that runs on old fashioned values and transparency. I want this sale to be a success that I can share with all people who choose to partake. Maybe I’ve developed a flair for the dramatic, but regardless of that I just want to portray some of the passion I have for the work I do. I look forward to this sale and all the sales in the future. My family and I are in this business for the long haul, and we look forward to working with all customers, new and old alike. Buy with confidence in us. Currently we are working with 110 Black Angus and 150 Polled Hereford breeding females. Both herds have been scrutinized with heavy culling policies and possess a high end product for meat, growth, and calving ease. The perfect animal, of course, does not exist and the picture differs from one cattle person’s opinion to another’s. There is enough variation and quality in our cattle that I believe you will find something you like. We are fully engulfed in performance and herd evaluation programs to try to increase the accuracy of EPDs and your confidence in buying a predictable product. As always our cattle are available to view at the farm, and we will do our best to accommodate any requests for information in addition to that which this catalogue offers. I encourage everyone to visit our webpage www.shlivestock.com for an overview of our program including herdsires and breeding females. Tables of information on sale cattle, including carcass data, and videos will be available online and at the sale. Please join us on March 9th and let us entertain your interest in the cattle industry!

Marla (deceased 2013) and Jake
Along with the Myer family, I would like to welcome everyone to this outstanding event. To my family, friends, neighbours, and surrounding community I would like to say thank you for your help. Without your support, our sale offering would not be possible. The females at Double P Angus are just as important as the bulls. All that we have bought and sold over the years is important. Thank you to Colin and Lisa Vogel from Stoughton, SK for purchasing our heifers over the past two years. With Marla’s strong input we have put together a group of cows with moderate frame, loads of depth, low maintenance cost, and high production value. Marla’s philosophy on bull calves has always been one of strict culling. “Not all bull calves become bulls.” With Marla’s passing now I take on this venture with reflections of her guidance, a big heart, and a soft smile. This pen of bulls represents a lifetime of hard, but good, decisions gathering genetics. These decisions were made to benefit you, the producer. Moderate to low birth weight genetics coupled with performance were selected to give you peace of mind. At Double P Angus these calves have been closely monitored for structure, mobility, and soundness. Calves were weaned in late September at an average weight of 825 lbs., then put on a balanced TMR (total mixed ration) on which they have gained 3 lbs./day or better. The bulls you purchase can be kept at Double P until May 1st. The entire sale offering will be on display the day before the sale, and are backed by the breeder guarantees of the national associations. Please take this as your personal invitation to the sale. If you have any questions about the sale or its offering don’t hesitate to call. As always, looking forward to working with you.
