Tammi Ribey
10 chair, Canadian Angus foundation
Welcome to the Building the Legacy Sale 10! We are thrilled to be planning a live auction at the National Convention in beautiful New Brunswick. For the past decade, Angus breeders and industry supporters have donated top genetics, services, and experiences to the sale. Bidding is always strong, and we are fortunate to raise funds to help the Canadian Angus Foundation continue the legacy. The Canadian Angus Foundation functions to preserve and expand the Angus breed for future generations through education, youth development, scientific and market research, and historical preservation and restoration. We strongly support our youth with scholarships and travel bursaries. We work hard to offer opportunities across the country to experience Angus events. The youth are our future! We are also trying to improve the world for Angus breeders now through support of research initiatives and support for educational events. Please give your support to the Building the Legacy Sale. The world is opening up again and we want to help our youth experience it. They have missed so much with the pandemic. “Alone we can do so little: Together we can do so much.” —Helen Keller

Chair, Building the Legacy Sale Committee
It is my pleasure, on behalf of the sale committee and the entire Canadian Angus Foundation Board of Directors to introduce you to Building the Legacy 10! This sale offering represents the 10th annual fundraising sale assembled by the CAF and it is a testament to the breeders, businesses and individuals who have contributed to the Foundation over the past decade. Without them, none of this is possible. Building the Legacy 10 will be headlined by a pick of the entire 2022-born calf crop at JEM Farms, the Mutch Family from Earnscliffe, Prince Edward Island. This will be a great opportunity for whoever buys the pick to dig deep into a prestigious cow herd that has had extensive success in the show ring and outside of the show ring to pick a calendar year bull or heifer calf. Not to mention that when you make your selection, I am certain you will enjoy first-class camaraderie and hospitality with a one-of-a-kind view right from their pasture. Additionally, we have a breed-leading offering of new and exclusive Angus genetics from various breeders in the form of semen and embryos. Many industry leaders and business have offered credits and vouchers toward their services and products. The multiple other experiences, trips, and art will be worth your consideration and appraisal as well. Many of the sale managers, consultants and staff from across Canada will be in attendance with us in Moncton and available for assistance if required. You can also watch and bid online with DLMS. Once again on behalf of the CAF board and the Legacy Sale Committee, I would like to extend our gratitude and sincere appreciation to all of those who donated to this 10th annual sale and to those who take part in the auction. See you in Moncton on June 11.
Sheldon Kyle
President, Canadian Angus Association
As we return to in-person events, I am excited to interact face-to-face with our Angus fraternity. So much of our business is based upon personal connections and relationships. I look forward to our visit in Moncton this June. If you are unable to be there, make sure to log on to DLMS to join in the action. The Canadian Angus Foundation serves to preserve our history, develop our youth, and explore research and educational opportunities for our members. Building the Legacy is an important piece of the Foundation’s work and success. The committee members have diligently put together a sale offering with something for everyone. Through the generosity of our membership’s donations and purchases, the CAF continues to meet their mandate. I want to extend a thank you to the CAF Board of Directors for their tireless work and commitment. The work that they do is meaningful and rewarding to our membership. I have enjoyed watching many of the previous youth participants develop successful breeding establishments and professional careers.

YOUR PICK OF JEM FARMS 2022-BORN CALVES
Belvin Grand Island 9150 We are truly honoured to offer the pick of our 2022 calves at this year’s Canadian Angus Foundation Building the Legacy sale.
JEM Flora 68J
Raising Angus cattle has always been part of the Mutch family farm. Ernie’s parents, Frank and Iva started out with their first Angus cows in 1960 under the herd name Earnscliffe Angus Farm. In 1981, Joanne and Ernie started their own Angus herd, JEM Farms. Our kids had a great experience participating in many Junior events, field days and conferences over their Junior Angus years. They are still involved in the cattle industry, with our son Stephen and his wife Jennie raising Simmental and Angus cattle, and our daughter Julie with her Angus herd. We have three grandchildren Meredith, John and Hannah, who are starting to take some interest in cows and will hopefully continue as fourth-generation Angus breeders. We have participated in many cattle events in Eastern Canada over the years and continue to market our cattle through various shows and sales. We have thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many great cattle people along the way. Our cow herd is easy fleshing and moderate framed with lots of capacity and good feet and udders. Most of our calves this year are sired by Belvin Grand Island, a Musgrave Sky High son that we purchased from Belvin Angus in 2020. He is a bull that we are very pleased with, and he has produced some great calves for us over the last couple of breeding seasons.
JEM Colossal 41H
We are happy to support the Foundation and the youth in the Angus breed for the future development and promotion of young cattle people. Thank you for inviting us to participate in the Legacy Sale. Offering your choice of any of the 2022 calendar year calves with tattoo KIY. Selection to be made by August 1, 2022.

121A is a female we had talked about flushing for some time and has been incredibly prolific in our donor program. She is out of the great Poss Total Impact bull and the cow family which produced the 2017 pick of the herd by HW Netherton. Talk about a big bodied, bold sprung brood cow with an impressive and balanced EPD profile. We paired her with the double-digit calving ease GB Fireball who has an incredible growth spread and carcass quality profile. The combination of marbling and rib eye area is unmatched by any other active sire in the breed. His progeny have been topping sales throughout America with some of the top calves in the 2021 Cudlobe Angus bull sale including Cudlobe Comet, sold to Semex.

66 Georgina 126A was purchased as an open heifer from 66 Ranch, right out of the heart of the Badlands Angus program. We saw strength in the Daquante 26L bloodline and wanted to infuse some in our program. 126A is a stout, solid, deep sided cow with a big hip. She has a very good udder from the day she calves on into the summer. Five sons have all made the bull pen here and averaged over $8,000 to commercial producers. She has left us one natural-born heifer that is a real beautiful young female. We believe this mating is a natural combination. Look for a great foot and beautiful females in resulting calves. She is sired by the Canadian Elite Sire Cudlobe In Focus 5S. He is one of the rare Canadian sires to achieve Pathfinder status in the US. His dam is still at Cudlobe and turned 20 years old this spring. She exhibits a perfect udder and feet at this amazing age. 99W is a proven cow that complements Poss Maverick nicely. High Selling son of MVP
B/R MVP 5247
Our offering represents an opportunity to acquire the genetics of one of the foundation cow families here. The EULA cow family is a cornerstone with roots back to the early 60s, noted for longevity and superior maternal traits. At 16 years of age, she is still going strong. When entering our flush program 190T produced in excess of 45 embryos. She is mated to one of the most exciting Payweight 1682 sons around. B/R MVP 5247 could be an exclusive breeding piece to add in Canada. The MVP cattle will add frame, length and impressive muscle definition. They are also excellent footed with great docility. Don’t miss your opportunity to acquire genetics to help progress your herd. The MVP sons were highly sought after in our spring sale backed by one of great foundation blocks in the herd. If you’re looking for longevity and performance, then this is the mating for you!

We can go on endlessly about the value of the Tiger daughters in our herd. They are the foundation to a superior cow herd. Miss Erica 141Z (x HF Tiger 5T) has been a consistent producer in the Hamilton cow herd… the reason she is now in the donor pen. Erica has landed herd sires into various purebred operations like Lone Oak Cattle in Iowa for $16,000, a Cowboy Up son to KS Cattle Corp (Kendall Gaboury) for $17,000, an HF Syndicate 213Z son to Kary Family Farm for $11,000, Showman sons to Dave Woywitka for $19,000 and to Roy Mac Angus for $17,000 and the $30,000 Profound son this spring. Cowboy Up 5405 needs no introduction; the progeny are probably some of the most consistent cattle ever raised at Hamilton Farms. Cowboy Up is an outlier with high performance, impressive growth and truly a breed changer. Cowboy Up can brag about producing high sellers and pick of the heifer calves which were purchased by KT Ranches and Ranch Covey Hill.

2 HYCROFT HEREFORD PLATES Last year Bonnie, a collector of cattle memorabilia, generously donated two Hycroft plates to Building the Legacy and we’re honoured to offer two more this year. We don’t know much about these two specific plates, but we do know that the clay products industry in Medicine Hat began production in the mid-1880s, shortly after the Canadian Pacific Railway’s transcontinental line went through the area. The Medicine Hat Pottery Company began production in 1938, offering more delicate and ornate products than their competitor. The company was sold and the name changed to Hycroft, and then the company was sold again two years later making Hycroft branded products rare and valuable. Cattle Hycroft products were given for prizes at shows and some, such as these, were custom ordered as gifts.

THE BREED, THE LEGENDS, THE HISTORY SPECIAL BOXED LEATHER EDITION #3 THE BREED, THE LEGENDS, THE HISTORY SPECIAL BOXED LEATHER EDITION #4 The Canadian Angus Foundation is pleased to offer special boxed editions #3 and #4 of The Breeds, the Legends, the History: Canadian Angus History Book, 2019 Edition to Building the Legacy 10. Ty Wilson of Dead Wood Furniture has created unique wooden boxes to showcase these limitededition, leather-bound versions of the book. Only a handful of these numbered books were printed with a leather cover, and each one has a unique wooden display box. The 560-page full-colour history book contains a comprehensive review of the history of the Angus breed, an overview of Angus in Canada, and 363 Canadian Angus member histories in the members’ own words. This book will make you laugh and cry, and will make you feel incredibly proud to be part of the Canadian Angus fraternity.
