Once again welcome to our 22nd annual on farm Bull &Female sale. We would like to thank every one who has supported our program . We appreciate the comments, support shown and the continued relationship with our valued customer base. It is this enthusiasm that guides us thru both our selection and management of our breeding program. We offer one of the most unique offerings to date. New and exciting AI sires for those who are looking for some outcross genetics. Our proven and reliable walking herd bulls are the back bone of our program .We offer Sons and Daughters of one the most prolific cow herds in production. Our breeding philosophy has always been to select for the qualities that have made the Angus cow the most efficient mother cow in the land. The management of this offering has our customer base in mind first . Bulls that have been raised so as to extend their productive life as breeding bulls. They have never been pushed or pampered for inflated performance. The past success of our sale bulls to their new owners is a testament to that. We would venture to say that many of the young replacement females in the land are not subject to the rude awaking of being introduced to swath grazing as their first test to becoming a brood cow as ours are. We would like to thank everyone who helps put this special event on. This family run operation has continued to stay ahead in the business with the foundation being the cow herd; they are truly an impressive set of females and that is where the basis has been done. The quality of these females has been created with many years of hardwork which pays off for the future. Last yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s event saw many of very productive bulls and females going into purebred and commercial herds. The bulls are fed right, with longevity built in mind and Crescent Creek continue to use bloodlines that work in their herd. EPDS ARE UPDATED FREQUENTLY BY THE ASSOCIATION AND ARE CURRENT AS OF FEBRUARY 20, 2020

What do the numbers mean? Birth Weight - Calf weight at birth adjusted to a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny differnce is reported in pounds. The larger the EPD indicates a heavier average birth weight

Weaning Weight - Calf weight taken between 160 and 250 days of age and adjusted to 205 days of age and a mature dam

equivalent. Expected progeny difference is reported in pounds. The larger EPD indicates a heavier average weaning weight for calves sired by that bull.

Yearling Weight - Weight taken between 330 and 440 days of age and adjusted 365 days of age and a mature dam

equivelant. Expected progeny difference is reported in pounds. The larger EPD indicates a heavier average yearling weight for calves sired by that bull

Milk - The milk EPD is a predictor of a sires genetic merit for milk as expressed in his daughters, or in other words the part of weaning weight attributed to milk genes. The larger EPD indicates heavier average weaning weight due to daughters greater maternal ability.

Calving Ease

Bulls have been rated (in our opinion) on calving ease ability * - recommended on cows ** - moderate birth *** - indicates calving ease elite

A NOTE ABOUT BIRTH WEIGHTS- ANGUS BULLS HAVE LONG BEEN KNOWN FOR THEIR CALVING EASE. IF YOU ARE BREEDING HEIFERS, ANGUS IS THE GO-TO BREED OF CHOICE. BUT WHERE DO THE “BIG” BIRTH WEIGHT BULLS FIT IN? MATURE COWS SHOULD BE ABLE TO CALVE OUT UP TO 7% OF THEIR BODY WEIGHT UNASSISTED. IT IS RARE FOR MATURE COWS TO REQUIRE ASSISTANCE, EXCEPT FOR ABNORMAL DELIVERIES SUCH AS BACKWARDS OR BREECH DELIVERIES. EPD’S CAN BE USEFUL BUT CONFUSING TO INTERPRET. IF A BULL HAS A BIRTH WEIGHT EPD OF +5 HIS PROGENY WOULD BE ON AVERAGE 3 LBS HEAVIER THAN BREED AVERAGE (5- 2 LBS= 3 LBS). HOWEVER THERE ARE MANY OTHER FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO BIRTH WEIGHTS.

MORAL OF THE STORY: IF YOU ARE BREEDING MATURE COWS TO AN ANGUS BULL, DON’T MAKE BIRTH WEIGHT YOUR FOCUS.

Feeding Program Our philosophy is to make these young bulls last as long as they can. As we talk to our customer base we think it is working. Many herd bulls lasting multiple years for their owners. We never feed to compromise breeding or structural soundness. As in the past the bulls are hand fed brown oat and protein pellet ration with free choice hay. We strive for a three pound a day gain, and the bulls are fed with this in mind. The bull calves were weaned end of September. The females were weaned the first week in October and put on bank grass until mid November, then moved to swath grazing until mid December, at which time they were switched to a brown oat and pellet ration. It is amazing how well these young females did on the swaths.

Herd Health

The vaccination program consisted of Express 5 and blackleg shots. All breeding females & bulls will have had their pre-breeding Express 5 vaccine and blackleg booster prior to the sale. The cattle have had plenty of exercise in large pens, and are very free moving.

CRESCENT CREEK ANGUS BULL & FEMALE SALE

For most commercial cattlemen, there are really only four EPDs they need to look at: birth weight (BW); weaning weight (WW); yearling weight (YW); and milk. The others, with perhaps the exception of the carcass traits, are more useful for purbred breeders.

Crescent Creek As the hype of the spring bull sale season approaches, we are no different than other seedstock producers. We try to put our best foot forward and present outstanding young herd bull prospects. More recently though, we have been very focused on presenting to you what we think are the backbones of many very successful operations. That, of course, is the mother cow. Year after year our heifer selection has been improving to the point that we are truly holding nothing back. We feel very fortunate in the fact that this selection is due to the many years of breeding sound Angus females with traits that make the breed so popular. Last fall as we drove out and checked these young females as they chewed away on swaths, you had to be impressed at how well they adapted. I called them my little cow herd. WOS 94G- Just a short note on what an influence the Outside bull has left here. Originally the bull was acquired for his potential to really ad some meat and muscle to his calves and that he did in one cross. We were not prepared though for the results in the replacement pen. Consistently leaving females the same size and the ability to raise big calves and stay in shape and come back bred. The Canadian Angus Foundation For those who are not aware of what the foundation does, it was set up to promote aspects deemed important to the Angus breed . The aims of the Canadian Angus Foundation is as follows: 1) Preserve the history of our great breed and our industry. 2) Develop programs for the youth of our breed and those of the commercial industry. They are the future of the beef business and society in general. 3) Establish avenues of funding for research pertaining to the cattle industry.

We all have an interest in one or all of these goals. Funding of anything is always difficult when it seems that everyone has their hand out. The foundation does an excellent job to ensure these goals are met. If you have ever asked yourself why you should contribute, all you need to do is read an angus history book. Take in any JR or 4-H event, or listen to the youth of our industry talk of the passion they have for breeding and raising cattle .Through funding from the Foundation people are able to tell the true story of agriculture and do research with our benefit in mind. TO CELEBRATE THE 15TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDATION CRESCENT CREEK HAS CHOSEN TO DONATE 15% OF THE SALE OF LOT 15 TO THE FOUNDATION. I KNOW THERE IS A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO DONATE TO THE FOUNDATION , WE JUST THINK THIS IS ONE MORE WAY TO CONTRIBUTE TO A WORTHY CAUSE.
