A NOTE FROM

THE RES LIFE OFFICE The Economics of Dating St. Valentine’s Day. For some people, it represents romance, flowers, cards, and fancy dates. For others, it’s all about the deeply discounted chocolates on the 15th. But, we’re not here to give you consumer advice around this holiday. Instead, we want to talk about the economics of breaking up. If you still look longingly at the moon attempting to catch it for your love, this is not for you. Even if you’ve moved past the honeymoon phase, but are in a happy and healthy relationships, the following information really isn’t for you.

Building Updates Reminders

But, if your relationship isn’t so happy or healthy, if you are thinking about breaking up with your partner, economic theory says go for it. Pull the plug. As humans, we are bad at intuitively assessing the “odds.” We place a lot of value in the time/effort that we have already spent. This is called sunk cost. Our fear of losing our sunk costs can stop us for pursuing new opportunities. So, don’t be afraid to take the plunge back into the dating pool. Desiree & Nick Residence Life Coordinators

Dear WiseONE Dear WiseONE, My goal was to focus on school and get good grades. Now, I want to get work experience and make some extra cash in the summer. I’ve started to look around, but

looked like their profile, but red flags started to pop up immediately. They pressured me to order a certain drink. They talked about how their ex was crazy and how different I was. For the remainder of the

the job search is exhausting. My favorite (insert eye roll here) applications have you upload your resume and then manual input it. I’ve probably filled out a least a million applications and heard back from two. Am I stuck or is there a better way? Sincerely, Will Work for Money

date, they dedicated themselves to hooking up with me. It was enough to make me think twice about online dating. I don’t want to give up, but I don’t want to waste my time. How can I spot the liars? Sincerely, My Heart’s On the Line

Dear Will Work for Money, On-line applications for work can be a grind! Fortunately, there are better ways to target your searching and take the search off-line. Your first step is to decide your priorities. Is the work experience in a related field? Or is it cash? Let this guide your search. There are several sites targeted towards students like this one. Your school most likely has a Career Centre with resources, job fairs and more. Don’t be afraid to use your connections – like family and friends. Ask on social media if anyone knows about a job opportunity. The job hunt is tough, but you’re not alone. Keep on applying and use your resources. Dear WiseONE, I met this person online. Their bio made me literally LOL and they were looking to start a

Dear My Heart’s On the Line, I’m sorry that you had such a bad experience. As humans, we are bad at spotting liars because we’re wired to believe what we see/hear at face value. There are some techniques you can employ to screen your potential dates. Get them onto the phone/Skype. If they refuse, throw a flag on the play! Use an app like Google Voice to mask your number for an extra layer of security. Ask a lot of questions. You can get to know them and look for inconsistencies at the same time. If you do move your relationship IRL, make sure someone knows where and when your date will take place. Be suspicious and trust your gut. Dating can be tough, but it can also be rewarding. Don’t lose hope! Any questions for the wise one? Click Here

relationship. We decided to grab coffee and this is when my nightmare began. They

Updates & Reminders Renewal Season is Here! Interested in renewing for Fall 2018? Treat yourself to 1st priority placement! As we expect spaces to go fast this year with 8-month lease options available, we want to make sure YOU have the first priority to lease over new applicants. You should have received an email in your inbox by now with the link to completing your Renewal Application! If you have not received it, that means the email we have on file is out of date. Please stop by the front desk immediately so we can update our systems! It's important to remember this priority status is for a limited time, so you must act quickly and renew before February 16th to reserve your space! Once we receive your submission our Leasing Team will be in touch with your Renewal Lease and once signed, you can consider your space locked in. We look forward to taking your apartment off the "Available List" for the 2018/2019 year!

Security Updates Our security continues to improve! The latest step was securing the staircases. Public floors do not have access to residence floors through the staircases. Residence floors will have full use of the staircases. Descent and emergency use will also be available. Starting in February, the front doors will have longer locked hours. Tap access will be required after 6 pm Monday to Friday and all weekend. The next step will be adding tap access to the elevators. Residents will use their access cards in order to take the elevator to their floor. As a result, elevator use will be restricted to residents. Resident security is a priority at CampusOne. We will continue to develop our systems to better secure the building and residents.
