A NOTE FROM
THE RES LIFE OFFICE Resolution Revolution The New Year, New Me Hype Beast is about to come out of hibernation in a big way. Your Instagram feed will be flooded with gym selfies and #motivation posts. Over 60% of New Year’s resolutions fail. To be honest, transforming yourself is a lot pressure. In fact, the whole resolution premise is full of traps – over ambitious goals, built in procrastination. In 2018, let’s revolutionize resolutions. Instead, let’s focus on achievable goals and small sustainable changes. Let’s preemptively forgive ourselves for small side steps we take from our goals. Get more sleep. Add a weekly workout to your schedule. Challenge yourself to try something new. Eat at a new restaurant. Even better, eat something new at your favorite restaurant. Don’t worry about completely reinventing yourself, aim to take incremental steps towards positive change. #newyearsmallsteps Desiree & Nick Residence Life Coordinators 2

WINTER WELCOME WEEK SCHEDULE

Dear WiseONE Dear WiseONE, Final exams were a trip! The whole week after my last exam is just a blur of sleeping, napping, snacking, and Netflex-ing. I felt like a zombie. That was December; it’s January now. I’m recharged and ready to go back to school. But, I feel April on the horizon and I don’t want to go back to Final Exam Zombieland. Any tips on how to avoid this seemingly inevitable slide into burn out? Sincerely, BRAINS!
visit, movies to watch, renovations to discuss. My schedule was packed. But, in reality, it just never felt right. Every time I tried, I got this pit in my stomach and I just couldn’t get the words out. I want to tell them. I don’t want to hide huge parts of my life from them. I guess there is always summer break. Sincerely, The Parent Trap
Dear BRAINS!, The image of an over-caffeinated, stressed-out, and sleep-deprived student is normalized by your peers and in the media. It doesn’t have to be this way! I can guarantee that you will experience stress (probably a lot of it). But, you can get better at dealing with stress. Google and Buzzfeed articles would have you believe that self-care is all bubble baths and face masks. In actuality, activities like getting enough
the news. The University of Toronto’s Sexual and Gender Diversity Office (SGDO) suggests taking small steps, like coming out to a trusted friend, and setting aside time for a specific coming out conversation. That being said, there is no right or wrong way to come out! Remember to be patient with yourself. Give yourself permission to take your time and feel comfortable with the situation. For inspiration, you can read the coming out stories of people

Dear WiseONE, I told myself that I would tell my parents that I was gay this break. I promised myself that I would. But, there were cookies to make, family to

Looking for a cool new place to close to home? This recommendation is so fun the hardest part is leaving! EscapeZone is an escape room on the corner of Nassau Street and Sapdina Avenue (five minutes walking). When you enter, you are put in a room and, with the help of your friends, must find your way out of the room before the time limit expires.
Don’t worry, you can still use the washroom during the game. Many have tried, and many have failed so, if you’re interested visit their website and book a spot. The building is open at 2:00 p.m. every day and closes at 11:00 p.m. except on Fridays and Saturdays, where it closes at midnight.

A Note from the GM Happy New Year! I would like to welcome everyone back from what was hopefully a restorative break. Whether you traveled over the break or stayed in your CampusOne home, I sincerely hope you had the chance to recharge. While we continue to have construction personnel in the building, we certainly have an end to the construction in sight. Yet, until that time, remember that the Laundry is Free. We are excited for all of the opportunities and potential the New Year holds. I wish each and every one a happy, healthy, and successful 2018. Simon Zarzour
