Bicycle day World Bicycle Day 2021 is on Saturday, 3 June 2021. The fourth World Bicycle Day is being celebrated on this date. The United Nations celebrated the first World Bicycle Day on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at UN General Assembly in New York. UN officials, diplomats, athletes, advocates of the cycling community spoke at the inaugural event in New York, sharing the many ways bicycles serve the people who ride them.
Facts of Bicycle Day · Bicycle is a simple, affordable, reliable, and environment-friendly means of transportation. · A bicycle can serve as a tool for development and a source of access to education, health care, and sport. · The usage of a bicycle gives the user an immediate awareness of the local environment. · Bicycle is a symbol of sustainable transportation and fuel saving.
Physical Benefits of Bicycle
Lower risk of heart disease UK research published last year that cycling or walking to work can lower the risk of developing or dying from cardiovascular disease (CVD) or stroke. The large-scale study shows those who use cycling to travel, have an 11% lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) and a 30% lower risk of fatal CVD. Regular cycling in spare time has a 43% lower risk of fatal CVD. Even those who are not regular commuters but took the bike occasionally get an 8% lower risk of all-cause mortality. Reduced risk of Type 2 diabetes Research from the University of Southern Denmark reveals that cycling can help to reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes. Researchers found that those who cycled regularly were less likely to develop type 2 diabetes, even those who took up regular cycling at a later age still benefited themselves from a 20% lower risk of acquiring type 2 diabetes than non-cyclists. Extra weight loss UK researchers who compared the daily modes of transport of nearly 150,000 participants found that cycling was one of the most effective forms of exercise for keeping trim and losing weight. Those who cycled to work had lower BMIs and body fat than those who walked.

National Indigenous People's Day June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day. This is a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. The Canadian Constitution recognizes these three groups as Aboriginal peoples, also known as Indigenous peoples. In cooperation with Indigenous organizations, the Government of Canada chose June 21, the summer solstice, for National Aboriginal Day, now known as National Indigenous Peoples Day. For generations, many Indigenous peoples and communities have celebrated their culture and heritage on or near this day due to the significance of the summer solstice as the longest day of the year. National Aboriginal Day (now National Indigenous Peoples Day) was announced in 1996 by then Governor General of Canada, Roméo LeBlanc, through the Proclamation Declaring June 21 of Each Year as National Aboriginal Day. This was the result of consultations and statements of support for such a day made by various Indigenous groups: in 1982, the National Indian Brotherhood (now the Assembly of First Nations) called for the creation of National Aboriginal Solidarity Day in 1995, the Sacred Assembly, a national conference of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people chaired by Elijah Harper, called for a national holiday to celebrate the contributions of Indigenous Peoples also in 1995, the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples recommended the designation of a National First Peoples Day On June 21, 2017, the Prime Minister issued a statement announcing the intention to rename this day National Indigenous Peoples Day.
Gets you into the savings habit early: If you establish a savings habit NOW when your paycheck is super small? You’ll only continue to save more and more money as you get your hands on a real paycheck from a job-job.
Gives you options: Imagine if you got the dream job you were waiting for all senior year, about midway through your first year with the job you took in the meantime. How wonderful! But not so much, if you don’t actually have enough money to move there. Or not so much if you don’t have any way to pay for a vehicle (since this dream job is located outside of a city). In other words, you need to keep money in savings just to keep your options open. Even if you don’t know what all your options are right now! Focus and strengthen your finances for when opportunity knocks.
Helps you build trust and confidence in your abilities: It’s hard to establish confidence in yourself in your early 20s. You are essentially taking over your life, and you need to know that you can trust yourself in doing so. There are many ways that you can build this trust, but having a buffer in savings? Well, that will go along way to trust that you can handle anything (especially after that first hiccup or emergency happens and you don’t have to call home for help).
Lessen your financial stress: This one’s a biggie. You don’t have to go through financial stress – though on some level, we all do (even billionaires!). Cut down on your financial stress by saving money. Seriously – it’s a gift to yourself to not have to worry about where next month’s rent payment is coming from, or how you’re going to get enough food for the week.
Helps you cover increased expenses: Right now, you’ve received lots of discounts because you are a student. It may not feel like it – especially if student loans are paying for some of those discounts – but you’re living a somewhat sheltered/nurturing life from the outside world. As soon as you graduate? You’re kind of thrust into the rest of society. No more student discounts. No more subsidized housing (though you can always still keep a roommate – I had one in my first two apartments after college), and no more parents to help you with your monthly bills.
