A NOTE FROM

THE RES LIFE OFFICE Looking Back and Forward This past week we celebrated Don Appreciation Week with everything from sushi to massages. We tried to display our deep gratitude through actions and words; but, it just didn’t seem like enough. The Dons – in our biased opinion – are at the heart of the CampusOne community. Whether it’s a 3 am lockout, a venting session after a bad day, or a fun event, the Dons are here for you, our residents! The Dons are helping to build traditions and lay the groundwork for an amazing and innovative Res Life program. As much as we are looking back to honor all of the hard work and dedication our TeamONE has shown, we are also looking to the future. We are in the process of hiring our 2018-2019 Don Team! We are looking for new team members who are leaders and tradition founders. We can’t wait to see what next year holds for us! Don’t miss your chance to apply. Applications close Sunday, March 4th.

Dear WiseONE Dear WiseONE, I have a pretty serious issue and I want to plunge right in. My toilet is always clogged. I used enjoy my quiet time in the washroom, but lately, I haven’t been able. The toilet is

and process the stories and information through conversation. I’m on good terms with my roommates, but I worry that a heated conversation could strain our relationship. The main topic of discussion

always mysteriously clogged. My roommate continues to deny their involvement. But, I have flushed out the issue – my roommate has paper towels in the washroom and used ones don’t appear in the trashcan. How can I unclog this issue for my roommate? Sincerely, Game of Porcelain Thrones

with classmates is coursework. My friends from back home are scattered across Canada and busy with school. How can I tackle these conversations and maintain my relationships? Sincerely, News Blues

Dear Game of Porcelain Thrones, It is very common that students away from home for this first time have limited knowledge about everyday maintenance issue like a clogged toilet. Someone has always taken care of any issues, bought the right toilet paper, etc. On your next errand trip, invite your roommate along. Show them the correct paper and explain that other types of paper products can clog or damage the toilet. If you don’t already own one, buy a plunger! Demonstrate to your roommate how to use it. If your roommate ignores these helpful tips, talk to your don and explain the situation. Good luck! Dear WiseONE, With everything from #metoo to gun violence, the news has be very controversial of late. I like to stay informed

Dear News Blues, Lately, the news can be a lot to process. When having conversations about sensitive topics, start with questions and a genuine sense of curiosity. For example, “I was reading about the #metoo campaign. What are your thoughts on the issue?” Let other’s know your goal is to digest the news, not debate it. This approach should allow you to explore the opinions of others without the intensity of an argument. If you find yourself in the midst of an unwanted debate, excuse yourself from the situation. At the end of the day, a sincere apology will go a long way to easing any strain a conversation may cause. So, be brave, but also be ready with an apology for any misstep!
