Who Are We The Canadian Electricity Association is the national forum and voice of the evolving electricity business in Canada. Founded in 1891, CEA has been at the forefront of each defining moment in the Canadian electricity sector’s history. CEA’s members generate, transmit, and distribute electrical energy to industrial, commercial, residential, and institutional customers in every Canadian province and territory. Our membership spans the entire sector, from vertically integrated electric utilities, independent power producers, power marketers and our transmission and distribution companies that keep the industry running smoothly. CEA is governed by a Board of Directors -- comprised of senior executives from the membership -- and provides a broad range of innovative programs and services, as well as delivering a coherent and convincing industry viewpoint to decision makers on critical policy and regulatory issues.

What We Do The Canadian Electricity Association thinks, advocates, communicates and educates on behalf of Canada’s electricity sector, up to and beyond the meter. CEA’s various Councils and Committees are the principal policy-setting bodies and serve as a forum for sectoral discussion, peer networking and sharing of best practices. In turn, CEA lobbies and advocates with federal government stakeholders in Canada and in the United States and provides advocacy support to its members at the provincial level. CEA works and collaborates with several key federal departments including, but not limited to, Natural Resources Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Measurement Canada and Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada. CEA also serves as the voice of the Canadian electricity sector with key stakeholders in the United States, including the Department of Energy, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, on a wide range of cross-border issues.

CEA Councils Under the guidance of the Board of Directors, each Council and Committee has a measure of autonomy to address priorities, initiate programs and develop policy recommendations within its area of focus. CEA currently has five (5) Councils: • Customer Council

• Power Marketers Council

• Distribution Council

• Transmission Council

• Generation Council

Our Mission, Vision and Strategic Goals CEA’s 2021-2025 Strategic Plan strengthens the Association’s role of providing value-added services, products and programming to the membership and advancing the strategic interests of the industry. As the only pan-Canadian electricity association bringing together all aspects of the electricity business, CEA speaks in a strong and integrated voice with the objective of creating a sustainable future that is good for business, good for communities and good for Canada.

To achieve our vision, mission and strategic goals, CEA will continue to provide indispensable value to—and shape relationships with—our members, members’ customers, Indigenous Peoples, electricity regulators, governments and other stakeholders. The 2021 Business Plan and its associated budget launch the operationalization of the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan.
