Amanda Sobey President, Lymphedema Association of Manitoba Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Nutritionist, Lymphedema Coach
In 2001, I was diagnosed with Lymphedema and given no hope. In 2016, I embarked on a journey to regain control and I’ve dedicated myself to helping others through the 16-week Lipo-Lymphedema Journey program. As President of the Lymphedema Association of Manitoba, I've initiated legislative advocacy and community support. From patient to prodigy to leader, I'm eager to inspire and educate.
Since then, I have devoted my life to train hundreds of fellow lymphies, lippys and lipo-lymphies to reduce their condition. I created my 16-Week Lipo-Lymphedema Journey course focusing on Lymphedema, Lipedema, and Lipo-lymphedema.
From 2021-present I was voted as President for the Lymphedema Association of Manitoba (LAM).
I have a specialized fitness method known as the The Sobey Method. This technique focuses on using the muscle to build negative pressure to move the lymphatic system.
I am proud to have achieved the following: Advocated for crucial healthcare reforms by spearheading the Manitoba Lymphedema Treatment Act petition, which is currently making its way through the Legislature Educated politicians, doctors, and therapists through the “Lymphedema in Manitoba Advocacy” presentation Raised over $3000 of medical supplies to donate to the lymphedema community Created an Educational Bursary & Compression Grant to support fellow Manitobans Personally purchased the teal light fixture to light up the Legislative Building for World Lymphedema Day
The success of this program relies on the four pillars of self-care, education, fitness and antiinflammatory nutrition. My journey began in 2001, when I was diagnosed with Lymphedema. I was devastated to learn there was nothing I could do, besides wear compression and receive MLD (Manual Lymph Drainage). For 16 years, the words "no cure" immobilized me. I did my best to be compliant with wearing compression and exercising, however, I progressed to a stage 3-4 at my worst phase. Lost, hopeless, and frustrated in 2016, I decided to attempt again to take my life back against this incurable illness. Step by step, I systematically taught myself how to reduce and manage my condition.

Primary Lymphedema - Left Leg
Primary Lymphedema - Right Leg, Abdominal and Genital
In pursuit of overcoming this incurable disease, I managed to significantly reduce my edema to the point that I had won my very 1st body building competition in 2017. I continued to compete and win titles in 2018, 2019 and 2021.
