We’ve learned the hard way, stated US President Biden in a press conference recently. “When we rely on justin-time supply chains that circle the globe, then we are significantly vulnerable to disruptions and delays.” This drives up costs and shortages both here in the USA and in Canada. We are both feeling the disruptions he went on to say. Biden continued by saying, “but there is a better way as our two nations are blessed with incredible amounts of natural resources.

Canada in particular has large quantities of Critical Minerals that are essential for a clean energy future, for the worlds clean energy future.” The President concluded, “I believe there are incredible opportunities to work together so Canada and the United States can source and supply here in North America everything we need.”

As we approach this multi-generational opportunity we must work in harmony with not only our neighbors to the south but our First Nation communities and the elders from these communities in where these potential discoveries belong. As protectors to the land they hold a lot of pressure and we should be grateful and respectful for what they have done and do to protect this land.

It is important to consult with the indigenous partners from the beginning and to include all First Nation communities in all discussions when it comes to developing these mining projects. Transparency goes a long way and out of respect it is the way to move forward.

Entering a new Golden era!

It took a desperate move by the president of the United States to give the Canadian gold mining industry, and especially Timmins, a shot in the arm. On Feb. 1 1934, Franklin D. Roosevelt jumped the price of gold from US$20.67 to US$35 an ounce. The country, as was the world, was in the midst of the worst Depression in recorded history.

In 1933, the U.S. government had decreed its citizens could not purchase or hold gold. Roosevelt wanted to restore confidence in the financial system and get the economy moving again. That action triggered the Second Golden Era for Timmins. It takes time to get a gold mine from discovery to production but there were many known deposits in the Timmins area that could be profitable at $35 an ounce.

In the period 1936-41, 10 gold mines opened up in and around Timmins. It must be stated that gold mines were always opening and closing but the gold price increase was an external stimulus that caused a huge burst of activity in the exploration and development fields.

The new mines were not giants in the class of the Big Three of the First Golden Era, the Dome, Hollinger and McIntyre, but they made a significant contribution to the local, provincial and federal economies.

Today we are facing the Third Golden Era and we can not miss this opportunity. With gold and precious metals being strong commodities and with the need for nickel, lithium, co-

balt, copper, etc. (the critical minerals required) to meet the global EV demands and clean energy future, Canada’s mining industry is sitting in good position.

The shift to this new golden era will lengthen the life of the mines and of the communities dependent upon them, create new mines, increase employment of labour and give the workers better wages, established towns and cities and in short every department of human activity will be stimulated. Ontario’s critical minerals

As nations transition to green economies and governments accelerate the adoption of new technologies and renewable energy, the demand for reliable, sustainable and ethical sources of critical minerals will grow.

Canada is a hub for critical minerals globally and Ontario’s mining industry leads the way by producing and processing mineral resources used in manufacturing everything from computer drives, renewable energy technologies, electric vehicle parts, rechargeable batteries, nanotechnology and much more.

The development and coordination of Canada’s policies and programs on critical minerals is driven by Natural Resources Canada’s Critical Minerals Centre of Excellence (CMCE), in collaboration with industry, provincial, territorial, Indigenous, non-governmental and international partners. The Centre helps to advance critical mineral resources and value chains, which are important for a green and digital economy.

Ontario, meanwhile, is a main contributor to Canada’s critical minerals strategy. Its diverse geology offers a wealth of possibilities built on a storied geological past. This is reflected in the wide range of mineral deposits that have been and continue to be developed into operating mines that are significant contributors to the provincial economy.

Ontario promotes social and environmental responsibility, making it attractive for mining companies and investors with a commitment to favourable Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices.

Still, several First Nations concerned about the increase of critical mining exploration and production have formed an alliance to ensure their interests and rights are met.

Canada’s Place on list of Leading Nations Critical Minerals

In 2022, Bloomberg News hosted a special one-off Summit on the lithium-ion supply chain and other critical minerals in Bali, Indonesia, ahead of both the Business 20 (B20) and G20 Summits. They ranked 30 leading countries’ lithium-ion battery supply chain performance based on 45 metrics across five key themes.

The themes include the availability and supply of key raw materials, manufacturing of battery cells and components, local demand for electric vehicles and energy storage, infrastructure, innovation, and industry and environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) considerations.

Based on those measures, Canada ranked third, eighth, tenth, fourth and sixth, and although China leads the ranking in three of the five categories, Canada was 2nd in overall ranking. Canada has large lithium reserves. It has significant lithium in brines associated with oil and gas reservoirs.

Canada is rich with deposits of all the necessary battery metals. Most resource-rich countries rank low overall because they generally lack domestic battery manufacturing capabilities and EV demand. Below are brief reviews of the various battery metals.

Lithium___________________________________________

Canada has large lithium reserves and is home to both brine deposits (in the west) and spodumene hard rock deposits (in Québec and Ontario). It also has significant lithium in brines historically associated with oil and gas reservoirs.

Nickel_____________________________________________

Canada has been a leading supplier of nickel for many years, producing 6.7% of the world’s nickel in 2020. This amounts to 170ktpa; however, at present, Canada does not process any battery-grade nickel. There are however several pathways from Canada’s sulphide ore deposits to producing battery metals. Currently, Canadian nickel from Vale’s Long Harbour facility in New-

foundland is mined and refined to Class 1 nickel metal and then shipped to Europe for further processing into battery-grade material. Elsewhere, Vale’s Ontario and Manitoba operations produce nickel concentrate that is smelted to matte and refined to Class 1 nickel in Ontario.

Glencore’s Ontario and Québec operations produce nickel concentrate that is smelted to matte in Ontario and shipped to Europe for refining to Class 1 metal. Sherritt International produces Class 1 nickel in Alberta from imported joint-venture feed materials. However, producing Class 1 metal may not be the most efficient route from mine to battery metals. Sherritt pioneered the use of hydrometallurgy for treating nickel concentrates from Manitoba in the 1950s, and Long Harbour has adopted a different hydrometallurgical route in Newfoundland. Modern hydrometallurgy can be a low-carbon alternative to traditional fossil fuel smelting.

Copper_________________________

Canada is home to significant copper production in Québec, Newfoundland, Ontario, and British Columbia. Teck Resources, a homegrown senior Canadian firm with a significant global footprint, supplies Canada’s needs in the near-term from its new Chilean project.

REE________________________________

Canada is well stocked with rare earth elements (REEs), with promising demonstrations for mining, processing, and recycling. In 2022, the Avalon Advanced Materials Nechalacho deposit in the Northwest Territories began production under Australian miners, Cheetah Resources. The project mines material from the Nechalacho deposit and transports it to Saskatchewan for further processing.

Cobalt_________________________

Cobalt is usually a by-product of nickel and copper mining with the notable exception of the silver-cobalt camp in northeast Ontario, and several firms are seeking to expand Canada’s processing capacity to produce the cobalt hydroxide and sulphate needed for the battery metals supply chain.

Manganese_______________________________________

Manganese mining and production has not been developed in Canada, but the country is home to the largest deposits in North America and two junior miners, Manganese X and Canadian Manganese, have explored deposits suitable for producing battery metals.

Canadian Minerals and Metals Sector

Natural Resources Canada recently reported that in 2020, the direct contribution of Canada’s minerals and metals sector to Canada’s gross domestic product (GDP) was $70bn, which represented 3% of Canada’s total GDP. The indirect effects from the minerals and metals sector added a further $37bn to the GDP, for a total contribution of $107bn.

Battery Metals and Minerals

Battery metals and minerals are big business in Canada and with the energy transition well underway and the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) outpacing even the best predictions, these numbers are expected to rapidly increase further, along with related investments and other opportunities in the industry.

The Battery Metals Association of Canada (BMAC)

Seeing this growth, and recognizing the greater potential for the industry, in January 2022, the Battery Metals Association of Canada (BMAC) took steps to help align the industry and co-ordinate efforts. Starting by hosting a series of interactive stakeholder workshops, followed by conducting leading industry research, this work culminated in the development of the in-depth industry analysis and overview that would become the roadmap for harnessing the maximum value of these resources through each step along the value chain – from extraction, processing, end-use, and recycling of these resources.

Ontario’s Contribution

Ontario is a world-class producer of nickel, gold, copper, zinc and platinum group elements. There are 41 active mining operations in Ontario, most of which are located in Northern Ontario. Of the 41 active mines nine are base metal (nickel, copper, zinc) mines. One is a platinum-palladium mine. Ontario currently has metal smelters and refineries that process several critical minerals, including nickel, copper, cobalt, platinum group elements, uranium, tellurium and selenium.

Northern Ontario & Quebec benefit from Agnico Eagle’s pipeline of projects

On March 31, 2023, the company announced the successful completed the acquisition of Yamana Gold Inc.’s interests in its Canadian assets, including the Canadian Malartic mine.

As part of the Arrangement, Pan American Silver Corp. has acquired all the issued and outstanding common shares of Yamana. With the completion of the Arrangement, Agnico Eagle now owns 100% of the Canadian Malartic mine, 100% of the Wasamac project located in the Abitibi region of Quebec and several other exploration properties located in Ontario and Manitoba.

Throughout 2022, Agnico Eagle Mines Limited delivered solid operating performance in a challenging cost and workforce environment with strong production and cost control, increasing mineral reserves and mineral resources, progressing expansion projects and delivering the best safety performance in the Company’s 66-year history.

The year also saw important strategic acquisitions aimed at furthering Agnico Eagle’s core strategy of consolidating positions in premier mining jurisdictions, with the integration of Kirkland Lake Gold, and the acquisition of Yamana Gold’s Canadian assets (including the other half of the world-class Canadian Malartic mine).

The company finished the year strong despite a challenging cost environment – Payable gold production in the fourth quarter of 2022 was 799,438 ounces at production costs per ounce of $834, total cash costs per ounce of $863 and all-in sustaining costs (“AISC”) per ounce of $1,231.

Record annual gold production and operating cash flow resulted from solid operational performance across the recently integrated asset portfolio –Payable gold production in 2022 was

3,135,007 ounces at production costs per ounce of $843, total cash costs per ounce of $793 and AISC per ounce of $1,109. Including the full year of production from the legacy Kirkland Lake Gold mines, which were acquired on February 8, 2022, total payable gold production in 2022 was 3,280,731 ounces at production costs per ounce of $821, total cash costs per ounce of $780 and AISC per ounce of $1,090, in line with the mid-point of 2022 production guidance and slightly above the top end of the cost guidance announced in February 2022.

Gold mineral reserves increased to a record level – Year-end 2022 gold mineral reserves increased by 9% to 48.7 million ounces of gold (1,186 million tonnes grading 1.28 grams per tonne (“g/t”) gold). The yearover-year increase in mineral reserves is largely due to significant additions at Detour Lake as well as successful conversion of mineral resources at several other operations.

Over the last 18 months, Agnico Eagle has solidified its presence in the Abitibi gold belt, a region of low political risk and high geological potential, and where it has a strong competitive advantage from having operated there for more than 50 years. Agnico Eagle’s production in the Abitibi gold belt is forecast to be approximately 1.9 million ounces to 2.1 million ounces of gold per year through 2025. In addition, the Company has the unique ability to monetize future additional mill capacity at the Canadian Malartic mine, given its extensive operations and strategic land position in the region.

Agnico Eagle’s 2023 production and costs guidance, which assumed 50% ownership of Canadian Malartic for the first three months of 2023 and 100% ownership for the last nine months of the year, is in line with the actual completion date of the Arrangement.

tario and Quebec (“Abitibi Gold Belt”), with the aim of increasing profitable production.

At Detour Lake Mine in Northern Ontario, mill expansion activities progressed as planned in 2022. These activities, combined with strong operational performance, resulted in record annual gold production of 732,572 ounces for the full year 2022, which Agnico Eagle believes makes Detour Lake the largest gold mine in Canada. For 2023, the focus remains on optimizing mill processes and improving runtime to achieve, and potentially surpass, 28.0 million tonnes per year (“Mtpa”) throughput.

Exploration success at Detour Lake in 2022 resulted in the addition of 5.6 million ounces of gold in mineral reserves to 20.7 million ounces of gold (850.4. million tonnes grading 0.76 g/t gold) and 3.2 million ounces in measured and indicated mineral resources to 18.5 million ounces of gold (731.5 million tonnes grading 0.79 g/t gold) compared to December 31, 2021.

In 2023, exploration is expected to focus on extending mineralization to the west and establishing an initial underground mineral resource in order to support potential underground mining operations.

Later in 2023, the Company expects to provide an update on the pathway to potentially increase production to one million ounces of gold per year.

At the Odyssey Project underground development remains on

schedule with initial production and start of shaft sinking expected in March 2023. Delineation drilling of the internal zones at Odyssey South in 2022 showed potential to add production in 2024 to 2026.

Exploration in 2023 is expected to focus on further testing of the internal zones, expanding the East Gouldie Zone to the east and west and mineral resource conversion. Drilling will also be carried out to test other near surface and underground opportunities to leverage excess mill capacity and infrastructure

At Canadian Malartic, Agnico Eagle expects to have up to 40,000 tonnes per day (“tpd”) of excess mill capacity starting in 2028 and the LaRonde Complex could have up to 2,000 tpd of excess mill capacity at the LaRonde Zone 5 (“LZ5”) mill circuit starting in the second quarter of 2023.

By maximizing the mill throughput in the region, Agnico Eagle believes there is potential to increase future gold production at lower capital costs and a reduced environmental footprint, which could also be beneficial to facilitating the permitting process. Additional production could begin at approximately 20,000 ounces in 2024 which will use this excess capacity and has the potential to increase up to approximately 500,000 ounces of gold per year by 2030. Potential future sources of ore could include:

• Macassa near surface deposits and the Amalgamated Kirkland (“AK”) deposit;

• Upper Beaver and other Kirkland Lake satellite deposits;

• Wasamac project Pipeline projects continue to advance –

Agnico Eagle has a number of advanced stage projects in the pipeline and the current focus is on how to advance these projects to production in a cost efficient and environmentally friendly manner. Highlights include:

• AK and Near Surface Deposits at Macassa –

These deposits are accessible from an existing surface ramp at Macassa and production from the Near Surface deposits are expected to begin in 2023. Production from the AK deposit could potentially begin in 2024. Alternatives to process these ores at the LaRonde Complex, which is approximately 130 kilometres away, and avoid capital costs associated with a mill expansion at Macassa are under review. Average annual production from these two deposits could potentially be 20,000 to 40,000 ounces of gold, commencing in 2024.

• Upper Beaver Project –Upper Beaver has the potential to be a low-cost mine and scenarios are being modelled with annual production of 150,000 to 200,000 ounces of gold with moderate capital outlays. Agnico Eagle believes initial production could potentially commence in 2029.

Processing scenarios with the potential to reduce initial capital costs are being evaluated, including transporting the ore to the Canadian Malartic mill for processing. An updated technical evaluation of the project is expected to be completed in late 2023.

• Wasamac Project –

The Wasamac property was acquired as part of the Yamana Transaction and contains historical mineral reserves of 2.2 million ounces of gold. Agnico Eagle believes this has the potential to be an underground bulk mining operation with production of up to 200,000 ounces of gold per year. Technical aspects of the project with a focus on ore processing at the Canadian Malartic mill are being reviewed and are expected to reduce the project

footprint and capital cost. An internal evaluation of the project is expected in the fourth quarter of 2023.

• Hope Bay Project –

Drilling in 2022 confirmed the potential to upgrade and expand mineral resources at Doris. Exploration in 2023 will primarily shift to the Madrid deposit to further expand the mineral resources with a focus on defining areas of higher-grade mineralization and work continues on evaluating larger production scenarios (targeting 350,000 to 400,000 ounces of gold per year).

“2022 was another strong year from a safety and operational standpoint. The company had its best safety performance in our 66-year history, we met production forecasts and managed our

costs in a highly inflationary environment,” said Ammar Al-Joundi, Agnico Eagle’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

“It was a transformational year for Agnico Eagle. The merger with Kirkland Lake Gold and the acquisition of Yamana’s Canadian assets will result in the consolidation of the Abitibi Gold Belt, one of the best gold regions in the world, and positions us well to continue to grow and create value for all our stakeholders for years to come. In 2023, our focus will be on optimizing and growing Detour Lake and Canadian Malartic and on establishing a plan to capitalize on existing infrastructure, including our excess mill capacity, in the Abitibi region of Quebec, with the potential to produce up to 500,000 ounces of gold per year by the end of the decade,” added Mr. Al-Joundi.

What’s in Store for Gold in 2023

Gold Investors are always eager for clues about how gold is going to perform? Will the price of gold continue to increase in 2023 or will there be a decline?

No one knows for certain how gold will perform in 2023. Some financial experts, however, are confident gold will continue to increase in value. But as in any debate there is an opposing side.

Gold in 2022: Slow Start, Great Finish

Before looking at the future outlook for gold, it’s important to review its recent performance. After underperforming for much of 2022, gold rallied late in the year and through the first month of 2023. More specifically, the price of gold increased by 14% from November 2022 through February 8, 2023. The price increase might be attributed to lower interest hikes by Federal Reserve regarding interest rates battling inflation. The price also may have been assisted by the reopening of

China’s economy and the resulting rise in jewellery demand. The strength of the US dollar will also be a factor. If it continues to weaken in value as it did to the tune of 7% from November 2022 to January 2023, that might signal higher values for gold in the future. According to Tim Maxwell, Investment Reporter with US CBS News, Gold may be poised for a big year in 2023, depending on interest rates, the strength of the dollar and other factors.

Gold is an attractive investment during periods of political and economic uncertainty. Half of the gold consumption in the world is in jewellery, 40% in investments, and 10% in industry. The biggest producers of gold are China, Australia, United States, South Africa, Russia, Peru and Indonesia. The biggest consumers of gold jewellery are India, China, United States, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Russia and UAE. In 2022, the price of gold reached an all-time high of $2074 US per oz.

The World Gold Council in its Gold Demand Trends (GDT) report called 2022 the strongest year for gold demand in over a decade

The World Gold Council (WGC) attributed the strong showing by gold to colossal central bank purchases and, aided by vigorous retail investor buying and slower ETF outflows, lifted an-

nual demand to an 11-year high.

A gold ETF is an exchange-traded fund that aims to track the domestic physical gold price. They are passive investment instruments that are based on gold prices and invest in gold bullion. In short, Gold ETFs are units representing physical gold which may be in paper or dematerialised form.

According to the WGC, the investment portion of demand reached 1,107 tonnes in 2022, representing a 10% increase over 2021. Demand for gold bars and coins grew 2% to 1,217 tonnes, while holdings of gold ETFs fell by a smaller amount than in 2021, which further contributed to total investment growth.

Quarterly fluctuations in over the counter (OTC) demand largely netted out over the year. OTC markets are characterised by market participants trading directly with each other. The two counterparties to a trade bilaterally agree a price and have obligations to settle the transaction (exchange of cash for gold) with each other.

Annual gold demand (excluding OTC) jumped 18% to 4,741t, almost on a par with 2011 – a time of exceptional investment demand. The strong fullyear total was aided by record Q4 demand of 1,337t.

Jewellery consumption softened a fraction in 2022, down by 3% at 2,086t. Much of the weakness came through in the fourth quarter as the gold price surged.

Investment demand (excluding OTC) reached 1,107t (+10%) in 2022. Demand for gold bars and coins grew 2% to 1,217t, while holdings of gold ETFs fell by a smaller amount than in 2021 (-110t vs. -189t), which further contributed to total investment growth. Quarterly fluctuations in OTC demand largely netted out over the year.

WGC Outlook for 2023

Based on gold’s 2022 performance, the WGC said it has not altered its view of a good year for gold in 2023, with more upside potential than downside risk given a growing risk of recession in the US and Europe.

“A lacklustre 2022 for ETF and OTC demand is likely to set the stage for a year of growth in investment,” said the WGC, noting that “gold’s stable performance in 2022, despite strong headwinds from rising rates and a strong dollar for most of the year, has reignited investor interest.”

“Jewellery demand is also likely to capitalize on a resilient 2022, driven primarily by the reopening of China,” the WGC added. Gold investment itself has also become more diverse. The advent of gold ETFs in 2003 opened up a significant source of gold demand and, over the course of almost 20 years, they have amassed 3,473 tonnes of gold holdings worth US$203bn. What was initially a largely regional phenomenon now boasts more than 100 physically-backed gold ETFs available across the globe, giving investors liquid alternatives to add gold to their portfolios.

Bar and coin investment has also remained popular worldwide. But most notably Europe is now one of the biggest regional gold investment markets in the world, accounting for around 20% of annual global bar and coin demand in 2022.

India and China have risen as super consumers of gold compared to when the World Gold Council first published its Gold Demand Trend newsletter in the 1990s. Back then, India and China accounted for less than 20% of total annual consumer demand combined. Today these two countries make up nearly 50%

China’s role in today’s global gold market is almost unrecognizable from that of thirty years ago. Gold has long played a culturally important role in China. But for half of the last century individuals were banned from buying and trading gold. Gradual easing of restrictions during the 1990s culminated.

In the Shanghai Gold Exchange being set up in 2002, with full market liberalisation complete in 2004. The nation’s gold consumers responded swiftly: demand for gold jewellery, bars, and coins ballooned.

China’s annual gold consumption has risen five-fold – from a little over 375t in the early 1990s to a record high of 1,347t in 2013. Since then, China has been the world’s largest gold consuming country.

Central Bank buying however is unlikely to match 2022 levels, according to the Council, as demand remains difficult to forecast partly because it can be policy driven and does not always respond to the most common economic drivers.

“Lower total reserves may constrain the capacity to add to existing allocations. But lagged reporting by some central banks means that we need to apply a high degree of uncertainty to our expectations, predominantly to the upside,” the WGC said.

Gold may be lower in 2023 predicts gold expert Harry Dent

Gold to be hardest hit commodity in ‘massive crash’, bear market in early stages predicted pessimistic, Harry Dent (an American financial newsletter writer. Harry’s 2009 book, The Great Depression Ahead, appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List) in an interview with Kitco news in the end of January, 2023. Dent predicts a dire 2023 for Gold, which has been trading up for 2023

and was at $1,930 per ounce at the time of the Kitco interview.

Higher gold prices and demands will reverse in 2023 and have a dramatic decline as “the biggest crash in our lifetime” enters its second wave, according to Dent. And the pessimistic Dent maintains 2024 will be even worse. Dent is calling for gold to reach as low as $900 per ounce by mid-2024.

“Gold is not a safe haven,” he maintained. “I’m predicting that gold goes down between $900 to $1,000. By way of explaining his predictions, Dent said that an “everything bubble” has been manufactured by the U.S. Federal Reserve’s loose monetary policy, which had caused booms in most asset classes, especially stocks. “The next wave” downwards will occur once this critical level is reached, he added. From its all-time high, Dent expects the NASDAQ to fall 92 percent and the S&P 500 to fall 86 percent. Gold will crash, along with other assets, to $900 per ounce, said Dent, but will ultimately reach $4,000 after markets recover and whenever the next economic boom takes place.

Gold will be golden in 2023 but be smart about it

Prudent investment dealers advise investors to proceed cautiously. The demand and price for gold can be influenced by many factors. As Tom Maxwell, of CBS News notes, “ no one can predict what the future holds for the price of gold, it’s important to understand where gold might be headed in 2023 before you invest in this precious metal.”

As with any investment, always research or consult your financial advisor before investing in an asset. Whether gold’s value soars in 2023, as some analysts predict, or crash as Harry Dent predicts, remains to be seen.

Canada Nickel paves way to develope one of world’s largest nickel sulfide mines

Canada Nickel, the company that is developing the Crawford Project, north of Timmins, Ontario, one of the largest nickel deposits, has cashedup with new investments as it progresses towards developing the site located north of the legendary Kidd Creek mine.

Anglo American has invested US $24 million (C$26,million) into Canada Nickel and its Crawford Project. Anglo-American, the British-based mining company, will take a 9.9 per cent stake in Canada Nickel. AngloAmerican as part of the deal has an off-take agreement where upon it can purchase up to 10 per cent of the recoveries of the nickel concentrate, iron and chromium contained in the magnetite concentrates and related carbon credits from the Crawford Nickel Project. The agreement with Anglo American closed on March 2, 2023 and is now in effect.

In addition, Canada Nickel will have access to Anglo American’s FutureSmart Mining™. Under this part of the agreement Anglo will receive ore samples of at least 100 tonnes from Canada Nickel for testing, using technologies from Anglo’s FutureSmart Mining™ which aims to improve processing recoveries, reduce Crawford’s energy, and water consumption and overall emission footprint.

Canada Nickel proposes to build an open-pit mine 40 km north of Timmins. It’s considered a low-grade,

high tonnage nickel play with a measured and indicated resource of 1.43-billion tonnes of nickel at 0.24 per cent.

A second cash infusion for Canada Nickel as it marches to development of the Crawford nickel deposit comes from a bought deal agreement with Scotiabank and several other investors. Scotiabank acted as the lead underwriter and sole book runner on behalf of a syndicate of other underwriters who agreed to purchase for resale Canada Nickel’s securities on a bought deal arrangement that will bring proceeds of C$18.2 million to the company through 7,462,000 common shares at a price of $1.77 per share. An additional 1,748,300 shares are to be issued as “flowthrough” shares. The agreement with the syndicate of underwriters closed on February 14th, 2023. The combined addition of C$44 million dollars to Canada Nickel’s treasury will help finance the company through to next year. The project management plan for the company called for Engineering and Feasibility Studies from 2021 to 2022. The current period from 2023 to 2025 consists of Impact Statement and Environmental Approvals.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025 and be completed by 2027. The Crawford Mine is expected to become operational in 2027 and have a mining life of 30 years up to

2057. The Crawford Mill is expected to last an additional 10 years, closing in 2067.

Closure and decommission of the Crawford site will begin in 2067 and run through to 2070. Post-closure and Monitoring will commence in 2070.

In February the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada held a preliminary consultation with the public on the 15th,16th and 22nd in Timmins. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada completed two virtual online public information sessions into Canada Nickel’s Crawford Nickel Project. The February 15 session was conducted in English and the February 16 in French.

During the sessions which the public participated via a Zoom meeting, IAAC representatives gave a presentation about the elements of the impact assessment Canada Nickel completed for the Crawford Project in Timmins, north of Glencore’s Kidd Creek Mine. During the English presentation spokesperson Harry Hees described the Impact Assessment process and the studies and other requirements Canada Nickel must meet to gain federal approval for Crawford Nickel. Canada Nickel submitted a Technical Study on the development of Crawford Lake and how it intends to proceed with public consultations. The comment period ended March 23, 2023.

Canada Nickel is continuing its aggressive acquisitions of nickel properties in the Timmins area

In November, 2021, the company announced the acquisition of 13 additional properties. The combined target surface footprint of all the 13 properties combined equals 37.7 square km – 40 times larger than the current Crawford Main Zone resource of 0.85 square km.

The ten target properties have larger footprints than Crawford and nine confirmed to contain the same host mineralization as Crawford. Sothman target property has historical higher grade, shallow resource of approximately 190,000 tons of 1.24% nickel (with 300 metres strike length)1; remaining 2.2 km of strike length is largely untested.

Four target areas have yielded drill intersections of > 0.3% nickel including:

·Sothman: 2.31% nickel and 0.19% copper over true width of 3.2 metres within 1.58% nickel and 0.12% copper over true width of 8.6 metres from 41 metres.

·Deloro: 0.38% nickel and 0.22 g/t PGM over core length of 15.5 metres within 0.28% nickel and 0.09 g/t PGM over core length of 299 metres from 241 metres.

·Midlothian: 0.24% nickel over core length of 345 metres, including 0.30% nickel over 42 metres.

·Mann Southeast: multiple 3 metre

intervals grading 0.31-0.33% nickel within 111 metres of dunite across the entire core length.

In December 2022 Canada Nickel continued to expand its Timmins assets as it has signed a deal to acquire a 100% interest in the past producing Texmont property situated between the Company’s Deloro and Sothman properties south of Timmins, Ontario. The Company is also reporting results from the first four holes at Texmont and first five holes targeting higher grade mineralization at Sothman. All nine holes have assays pending.

Highlights include:

·The Texmont property provides potential for near-term open pit production from near-surface high grade mineralization.

·High grade potential of regional package already demonstrated at multiple properties –Texmont, Sothman, Bannockburn. Mineralization outcrops at all three properties

·Texmont – Historic resource1 of 3.2 million tonnes of 0.9% nickel hosted within bulk tonnage target.

·Sothman – Historic resource2 of 190,000 tons grading 1.24% nickel

·Bannockburn – Historic drilling with multiple intervals greater than 2%

·Crawford PGM zone results include two holes with core length of 30 metres of 1.82 g/t palladium + platinum and 15.0 metres of 1.88 g/t platinum + palladium.

tential and is highly complementary to our large-scale Crawford and regional nickel sulphide projects.

Canada Nickel Demonstrates Robust Nickel Recoveries at the Reid Ultramafic Nickel Project

On March 15, 2023 Canada Nickel announced robust nickel recoveries from the first metallurgical test on a sample from the Reid property. The test utilized the same mineral processing flowsheet designed for the Company’s flagship Crawford Nickel Sulphide project. The Company’s Reid project is situated 16 kilometres southwest of Crawford.

Mark Selby, Chair and CEO said, “We are very pleased by this first test at Reid which achieved an overall nickel recovery of 63% and achieved expected or better than expected nickel, iron, and chromium concentrate grades. While it is early days at Reid, these results, achieved using the standard flowsheet developed for Crawford, demonstrate the potential to leverage our development work at Crawford, across the portfolio of targets throughout our entire Timmins Nickel District. I am also very pleased to announce that we have closed the acquisition of the Texmont property, where our recently announced drill results support the potential for near-term, smaller scale, open pit production.”

The Reid Property is located just 16 kilometres southwest of Crawford and 37 kilometres northwest of Timmins, and contains an ultramafic body with a target geophysical footprint of 3.9 km2 compared to the Crawford target footprint of 1.6 km2. In the news release dated January 23, 2023, the Company reported the results of a 16 hole drill program at Reid, which intersected multi-hundred metre intervals of mineralization. The results of this drill program show that the Reid deposit is approx. 50% wider than the Crawford Main Zone and more than 100% wider than the Crawford East Zone.

Canada Nickel could play a major role in new auto manufacturing industry

being dependant on the Chinese supply from Indonesia. Ontario could help produce the nickel the world requires to meet the auto manufacturers demand for EV batteries. Canada Nickel Company (CNC) is one company that is actively exploring for nickel in northern Ontario. The company is located in Timmins, Ontario with its Crawford Project which is currently in the permitting stages. The Crawford discovery in just four years is delineated as the fourth largest nickel resource supply globally and if they were mining today it would be the fifth largest nickel sulphide producer globally.

Nickel is a key component of Lithium-Ion batteries, with the current electric vehicle (EV) boom the demand for nickel is on the rise. With the demand comes the threat to automakers, will there be enough nickel supply?

Nickel is a chemical element and a transition metal. It is mostly used for high-grade steel manufacturing, and increasingly so, in batteries. Global production of nickel from mines was estimated to amount to a total of 2.5 million metric tons in 2020. The major countries in nickel mining include Indonesia, Philippines, Russia, and New Caledonia.

100% of the current supply growth is coming from countries such as Indonesia.

There are two big issues with this:

1)These mines are established by Chinese companies.

2)The carbon footprint for these operations are huge.

Russia has a lot of the nickel and with its unexpected war against the Ukraine, prices of nickel have

soared. The London Metal Exchange even had to suspend nickel trading in March after a 250% price hike.

The United States itself is short on nickel resources. The Eagle Mine in Michigan is USA’s primary nickel mine and is expected to close in 2025. With the project pipeline for nickel mining drying up the auto industry is reaching out and begging for help. The world needs to figure out how it is going to acquire a whole lot more nickel if it is going to achieve their ambitious EV targets. The majority of Nickel has been used in the stainless steel manufacturing process with just shy of 10% of the metal being used in the battery market. That is all about to change. If we look forward 10-15 years the demand could rise to 40-50% which will allow for that much more pressure on the demand for nickel. With a wake-up call and the lesson we are learning with the Russian invasion on the Ukraine, North American car manufacturers don’t want to place their bet with their companies

What differentiates Canada Nickels Crawford project to those in Indonesia?

“The Carbon footprint for those operations is very large. What is being done in the processing of their nickel is they are taking a ton of soggy dirt that has about 1% nickel in it and using a huge amount of electricity and in their case coal to be able to turn that dirt out into metal. Therefore, the nickel that is being produced there has about a 50-80 ton CO2 footprint per ton of nickel produced. This is not great for decarbonizing our planet, said Mark Selby, Chairman, CEO and Director of Canada Nickel Company. The ultramafic discovery which is the host rock for the Crawford mine project spontaneously absorbs CO2. CNC is designing a processing plant that will have the ability to capture and store nearly 20 tons of per ton of nickel produced. This will make CNC one of the largest capture and storage facilities in Canada and one of the largest nickel

“The difference between nickel sulphides versus laterites is fundamentally in order to process a laterite deposit you would need either use a lot of electricity or a lot of acid to get the material out. When you use a lot of electricity like in Indonesia it`s all coal fired power and that’s how you end up with 50-80 tons of CO2 footprint per ton of nickel produced”, stated Selby. In Ontario CNC has access to infrastructure and this

includes low carbon electricity from the grid. This will allow CNC to design their mining operation to have a very low carbon footprint to start off with. If you add to this; the rocks they are grinding up into fine particles in order to remove the nickel and once the particles are there they take advantage to inject CO2 in to that state and once the particles see this CO2 they automatically grab it and turn it into this other mineral.

Canada Nickel’s Carbon Capture & Storage program is being integrated into the Crawford Nickel Sulphide Project. The project will be run by an arm of Canada Nickel known as NetZero Metals, to begin the research and development of a processing facility that would be located in Timmins, Ontario.

Greenstone Mine nears 70% completion Production expected first half of 2024

Equinox Gold is a growth-focused gold producer operating entirely in the Americas, with seven operating mines in the USA, Mexico and Brazil. As part of its vision to be a million-ounce gold producer, in April 2021 Equinox Gold bought a 60% interest in the Greenstone Mine in Ontario, Canada, with the remaining 40% held by Orion Mine Finance Group. Greenstone Mine will be one of the largest open-pit gold mines in Canada and will be Equinox Gold’s flagship asset when it commences production in 2024.

Greenstone Mine construction kicked into high gear in October 2021. The project is nearly 70% complete and on track to achieve production in the first half of 2024. Various facilities have been commissioned and were handed over to the Op-

erations team during the fourth quarter, including the potable water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant, site mixed emulsion plant and pit fuel station. All buildings are now enclosed and interior work by the mechanical, piping and electrical trades is underway. Conveyors between buildings are being assembled and installed. Four bays at the truck shop are available to Operations team haul truck maintenance while work on the offices, lube, HVAC and communications systems continues. At the power plant, ongoing efforts include construction of the control room and the exhaust ducting as well as extensive electrical work.

Offsite infrastructure work continues with decommissioning of the former Ontario Ministry of Transportation Patrol Yard nearing completion and work on the Highway 11 realignment on track for completion by year-end 2023. A milestone for the project was reached in January 2023 with Goldfield Creek diverted into its new realignment and now flowing north around the tailings management facility. Mining commenced ahead of schedule in September 2022 and is meeting its daily tonnage plan. Haul roads continue to be constructed across the mine site, while operational readiness activities for the process plant are underway.

Greenstone Mine will produce close to 400,000 ounces of gold per year and more than 5 million ounces of gold in total over an initial 14-year mine life, with expansion and mine-life extension potential from both underground and near-mine open-pit deposits.

IAMGOLD’s Côté Gold Project on the move to production

Construction at Côté Gold, located halfway between Sudbury and Timmins just off HWY 144, began in the summer of 2020. Since that time Côté has undergone a remarkable transformation, with the project approximately 80% complete as of March of this year and on track to commence production in early 2024.

The site is operating at capacity with over 1,500 workers at site and is expected to advance at a rate of 2% to 3% per month through the spring into the fall at which point focus will shift from mechanical completion to commissioning activities. The project recently celebrated over 9 million hours without a Long-Term Injury, which is a testament to the skill and dedication of the Côté Gold teams.

BUILDING A MINE OF THIS SIZE HAD ITS CHALLENGES

Côté Gold will be Canada’s third largest gold mine by production. It is a large-scale construction project that required the planning, coordination and execution by thousands of workers in order to move millions of tonnes of earth, fabricate and erect a 37,000 tpd gold processing plant, reroute the Mollie River and build a new lake as part of the creation of a new offsetting fish habitat. This project was advanced in an environment of COVID-19, inflation and global events that impacted supply chains, labour availability and costs of material, commodities and consumables. Côté Gold will be the first open pit mining project in Ontario, Canada to have onsite autonomous hauling

Open pit autonomous hauling & drilling a first in Ontario

and drilling – meaning driverless trucks and driverless drills – complimented by manned loading and support equipment:

• Epiroc Pit Viper 231 autonomous blasthole drill rigs will be deployed and able to move between holes on a pattern autonomously, improving safety and productivity.

• Loading will be done by two electric CAT6060 hydraulic shovels which are connected to the grid by a tethered cable, supported by a fleet of CAT 994 front-end loaders.

• Hauling will be performed autonomously by a fleet of up to 23 CAT793F trucks, monitored by operators in the AHS control room at the camp. Autonomous haul trucks provide significant efficiency gains with increased availability, reduced maintenance costs, and provide detailed operating data for further analysis and refinement.

A major milestone was achieved this year with the first deployment of the autonomous trucks in January. Autonomous trucks utilize radar and high precision GPS guidance systems which can pinpoint the location of any part of the truck to within 4 centimeters. The loader operator, once ready, presses a button to call the autonomous truck to them, and the truck will drive itself to the exact spot required before moving the material to the appropriate destination (ore versus waste). To ensure the autonomous vehicles operate to plan, the project has installed a comprehensive and secure communication system around the pit. Accordingly, Côté is always looking for people skilled in computers and communication networks.

The process plant incorporates a mix of traditional welltested technologies with novel uses of established processes. The crushing and grinding elements are partially traditional (gyratory crusher, cone crusher and ball mill) as well as newer, yet well-established technologies such as High-Pressure Grinding Rolls (HPGR) and vertical mills. The gold recovery process is conventional with gravity recovery, as well as leaching (CIL) and Carbon-in-pulp (CIP).

THE FUTURE

Côté Gold currently has an estimated mine life of 18 years, but the Company firmly believes that Côté Gold is not just a project, but the start of a district with significant potential for mine life extension. The recent focus for exploration at Côté has been at the Gosselin deposit that is located immediately adjacent to the Côté Pit. In late 2021, the Company announced a maiden resource at Gosselin of 3.4 million ounces of measured and indicated and an additional 1.7 million ounces of inferred. Gosselin has only been drilled to half the depth of Côté and is open along strike and at depth. Approximately 17,000 meters of diamond drilling was completed in 2022, with another 15,000 meters planned this year to further delineate and expand the Gosselin deposit and test targets in the region. The Company is conducting the necessary environmental and mine optimization studies to understand how best to incorporate Gosselin into the Côté Gold life-of-mine plans.

Looking beyond Gosselin, there is significant upside to be uncovered as there has been minimal historical exploration targeting these Côté/Gosselin-style intrusionhosted deposits within the large 596 km2 land package.

AN INTERVIEW WITH MINISTER OF MINES- GEORGE PIRIE

With Marten Falls and Webequie on board, Pirie is hoping to see other communities become a part of the burgeoning development.

“We’re there to support all of the First Nations in these projects. I myself, am personally open to any discussion at any time.”

Pirie met with the Chief of Fort Hope, also known as Eabametoong First Nation, last fall, and said that much of the consultations taking place are being led by the Chiefs of Marten Falls and Webequie, which he hears has garnered interest of other FN communities. “I think those are very positive signs,” he said.

Ontario’s Minister of Mines George Pirie is feeling very optimistic these days about the province’s prospects for major growth in the mining sector, and its correlating industries.

Pirie, a former mining executive and City of Timmins mayor, says the biggest building block is that of the long anticipated Ring of Fire development in the remote reaches of Northern Ontario. A recent development has plans to finally get a permanent transportation network to the area, including Webequie First Nation (Webequie Supply Road) and Marten Falls First Nation (Marten Falls Community Access Road).

“During PDAC (Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada) we announced the final approval on the terms of reference for the Northern Road Link, which will connect the two communities with the highway network, and the Ring of Fire,” he told MiningLife.

The basic idea is to connect the mineral deposits to the manufacturing sector throughout the rest of the province.

“This is really about improving the lives of the First Nations and trying to unlock the critical minerals in the

Ring of Fire.”

All 3 of those highway links are now undergoing the environmental assessment process with the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada.

Pirie gave credit to the hard work and leadership of Chief Bruce Achneepineskum of Marten Falls and Chief Cornelius Wabasse of Webequie First Nation for leading the way in progress.

The proposed highway would run somewhere between 117 and 164 kilometres in length, and cross the Attawapiskat River. Those links would then connect at Nakina to the rest of the provincial road network.

The Province of Ontario is investing approximately $1 billion dollars in legacy infrastructure in the Ring of Fire region including the all-season roads, broadband connections, and other supports.

“We’re all on the same page – our government, Webequie First Nation, Marten Falls First Nation – we share the same goals,” said Pirie, adding that connecting the communities and the resource bases will secure a more prosperous future.

“We will ensure that economic reconciliation happens for all the communities in the Ring of Fire.”

“We certainly want to streamline the process, and they want to see the process streamlined. We’ve got a real good working relationship.”

As it stands, rail connections to the Ring of Fire are not in the plans, and Pirie maintains that despite the obviously challenging terrain in the area, constructing a high quality, four seasons road with proper maintenance standards and capabilities is very feasible, and not without precedent. “The easiest thing about this project is building the road,” he said.

“A large part of the road will be running on an esker. The parts that are in muskeg will be no different than the road that was built in the 90s to get to Musselwhite.”

There have been some environmental concerns relating to the area’s muskeg acting as a delicate carbon sink.

“I think that’s very important for everybody to understand. There’s very little of that muskeg that will be disturbed,” said Pirie, adding that the construction of such roads is an ‘amazing process.’

Throughout the rest of Ontario, things are looking up.

‘Building More Mines Act’

Canada. So I think the fruits of our labour in the critical minerals area are being seen. On top of that, I believe that capital is mobile. Capital will be attracted into jurisdictions where mining is supported.”

Bill 71, or the ‘Building More Mines Act’, which is an amendment to the province’s mining act, aims to stimulate and expediate the overall time it takes to get shovels in the ground. “It can’t take 15, or 17 years to permit a mine,” said Pirie.

“The example I often use is Kidd Creek Mine. It was 3 years from the point of discovery to production, as opposed to something like Côté Lake that took 17 years. That’s just totally unacceptable.”

He said the amendment aims for the ministry to become more ‘flexible’ and ‘accountable’ and doesn’t reduce or invalidate any current environmental standards or responsibilities, which he feels are some of the strictest anywhere in the world.

“The Building More Mines Act is basically making this more efficient and effective within the ministry itself. It does not change any of Ontario’s environmental standards.”

The Act introduces amendments to the Ontario Mining Act and it is hoped to lessen fees of applications and allow easier access to permits for recovering minerals from mine tailings as well.

In the latest budget introduced by Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy, another $6 million was announced for the Ontario Junior Exploration Program (OJEP) bringing the total to $35 million in total investments since Premier Doug Ford took office. The program assists junior mining companies finance early exploration projects.

He also points to the $5 million dollar Critical Minerals Innovation Fund, which was announced in late November, as another way the province is doing its part to boost development and encourage new technology.

The province is aiming to see more rare earth mineral projects, such as VR Resources project near Otter Rapids, develop so that Ontario can become a major player in a secure and responsible supply chain of the growing electric vehicle sector, which Pirie calls a ‘revolution.’

He said Ontario has a good working relationship with the federal partners, and had hoped to see the feds match the roughly $1 billion the province is putting in towards Ring of Fire development. However, it was not mentioned once.

Still, he is optimistic and excited for the near future.

“25 percent of all exploration expenditures in Canada are happening in Ontario. That’s a huge win for us,” said Pirie.

“With the capital attracted, you create jobs, and you create jobs not only in Southern Ontario, you create jobs all over Ontario, including the Indigenous communities. Its a win-win-win, and I think we’re just getting started.”

Galleon Gold to make major break-through in 2023

Galleon Gold an exploration and development company focused on advancing the West Cache Gold Project in Timmins, Ontario anticipates 2023 to be a breakthrough year as it enters the advanced exploration and bulk sampling phase that will set the course for the construction of a fully operational mine.

The company outlined its 2023 plans to develop its flagship West Cache Gold Project in the prolific Timmins Gold Belt. The plans include extracting a bulk sample to ascertain the quantity of gold present at West Cache.

The West Cache Gold Project is located 7 km northeast of Pan American Silver’s Timmins West Mine and 14 km southwest of Newmont’s Hollinger Mine. A 2022

Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) for the project demonstrates strong economics. Detailed engineering design and baseline studies in support of a permit application for an underground bulk sample are underway.

2022 laid the groundwork

2022 was an active year for Galleon Gold as they issued their first preliminary economic assessment (PEA) of the West Cache project in keeping with National Instrument 43-101 standards.

The PEA highlighted strong project economics with a pre-tax NPV at a 5% discount rate of $378 million and IRR of 33.7%. Cash costs of US$814 per ounce and all-in sus-

taining costs of US$987 per ounce for 940,200 ounces of gold mined over Life of Mine (“LOM”) of 11 years with average annual production of 85,500 ounces. According to the PEA, recovered gold is estimated at 893,200 ounces over the LOM.

Galleon also provided an updated Mineral Resource Estimate significantly increasing the grade and total ounces in the Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resource classification. In addition, Galleon acquired additional mining claims adjacent to the West Cache Project expanding the total claim package to 10,370 hectares.

exploration drilling program and announced one of the best Zone #9 intercepts to date (determined by grade x thickness) of 15.6 g/t Au over 7.6 m within a broader zone of 7.41 g/t Au over 18.1 meters. The drilling program also discovered additional ounces of gold in the South Area with intercepts of 13.29 g/t Au over 4.5 m (incl. 79.2 g/t Au over 0.7 m) and 5.23 g/t Au over 5.7 m.

The Company received a new 21- year mining lease – an important milestone for the West Cache project. Lease status is required before mining activities such as infrastructure development and ore extraction can be conducted on the property.

Finally, Galleon progressed with the underground bulk sample permitting and baselines studies; and initiated geomechanical and geotechnical drill programs in support of the detailed design of the

The company completed 3,527 meters of NQ drilling in eight exploration drill holes or drill hole extensions to better define multiple gold-bearing zones located 300 meters south of Zone #9 and only 100 meters south of planned development ramps.

There are two predominant mineralized horizons emerging in the South Area felsic metavolcanic unit, the “Upper South Zones” just below the contact with metasediments and the “Lower South Zones” nearer the metavolcanic unit’s lower contact with metasediments. The upper zones dip 55° to the north like Zone #9 while the lower zones dip 80° to vertical.

Drill program nears completion

Galleon is close to completing its geotechnical overburden drill program by the end of the first quarter of 2023. Information from this program, along with third-party detailed engineering work, will be included in the permit application for the mine.

Prior to retaining Dumas, Gowest resolved an outstanding dispute with Cementation Canada. In January 2023 Gowest settled with

Cementation Canada Inc. paying $7,436,500 for services provided to Gowest under a contract that was signed in March, 2017. Under the terms of the settlement, Gowest will pay Cementation approximately $5,076,600 by March 31, 2023.

Cementation will also transfer the net receivable Gowest owes to it, approximately $6,860,000, to a third-party purchaser of the debt. Gowest will be obligated to pay the third-party purchaser the amount by March 31, 2026.

Gowest also obtained funding from a non-brokered private placement of $25,000,000 with Greenwater Investment Hong Kong Limited and Lush Land Investment Canada Inc. has agreed to purchase Gowest promissory notes for $10,000,000. The new financing will help Gowest as it enters the bulk sampling advanced exploration phase.

The initial underground work will focus on the development and production of the initial bulk sample area in the East Zone including the development of ventilation infrastructure, as well as the development of a ramp to expand and access new ore zones.

Gowest is also working towards finalizing an agreement for milling Bradshaw’s ore and is working with several parties to determine the optimal approach for handling the gold concentrate.

MONETA GOLD developing one of North America’s largest undeveloped gold projects

drilling core samples at its Tower Gold and Windjammer properties. The assay results from the sampling of historically drilled, but never assayed, core from fifty-five (55) drill holes on the Windjammer and 903 deposits at the Tower Gold project, located in the Timmins Gold camp, Ontario.

The Porcupine Gold Rush of 19091911 was the largest gold rush in Canada, far surpassing the fabled Klondike Gold Rush of 1898-1900 both in ounces of gold and life of gold mining. Gold mining is still going strong in Timmins, along the Destor fault of the Abitibi-Greenbelt. But of all the great mining company names associated with the Timmins – Porcupine gold camp only one remains active, determined to rekindle the spirit of its past successes.

Moneta Porcupine Gold was founded in 1910 and continues 113 years later. Long after companies like Hollinger, McIntyre, Dome have passed on to history. Moneta Gold also happens to be one of the longest listed mining companies on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

During an earlier phase in their history the Moneta mine produced 150,000 oz. at 15 grams gold per tonne between 1939 and 1943. The mine shaft had six levels to 1,450 feet, quite deep for a mine at that time.

Today, the company is called Moneta Gold and it made its presence felt during this past PDAC 2023.

“Moneta Gold has one of the largest undeveloped gold projects in North

America,” said Gary O’Connor, the President and CEO of Moneta Gold during PDAC 2023 in an interview with gold specialists Kitco News. “We are located in a great location, a safe jurisdiction and it’s got size”.

During PDAC 2023 New Discoveries session on March 8, 2023, Mary-Anne Hildebrandt, P.Geo geologist for Moneta Gold gave a detailed presentation of the company’s properties located just east of Timmins in an area Moneta calls the Golden Highway.

Moneta updated their mineral resource estimate in 2022 classifying the potential at its properties to 12.8 million oz of gold at a grade of 4.3 indicated. The September 2022, PEA study outlined a combined open pit and underground mining and a 7.0 million tonne per annum conventional leach operation over a 24-year mine life, with 4.6 M oz of recovered gold, generating an after- tax NPV5% of $1,07 billion, IRR of 31.7%, and a 2.6-year payback at a gold price US$1,600/ oz. Tower Gold hosts an estimated gold mineral resource of 4.5 M oz indicated and 8.3 M oz inferred.

These results support wide widths of mineralization containing significant gold grades within the economic open pit mineral resources at 903 as defined in the PEA study, within an area contained during the payback period in the first 5 years of production.

Extensions of good gold mineralization have also been intersected outside the resource and pit. As we continue to grow, de-risk, and advance the Project, we look forward to completing the current resource infill drill program in preparation of a mineral resource estimate update for the planned Pre-Feasibility Study (“PFS”).

A total of 10,057.00 m of drilling was completed in the forty-three (43) drill holes reported. Drilling is being conducted on 50 m centres as step-outs and infill of previous drill holes. An additional 190,000 m resource infill and upgrade drilling program is currently underway. Additional assays are pending including the results for a further fortythree (43) drill holes from the 903 infill program completed in 2022.

The 903 deposit currently hosts an open pit indicated resource of 18.09 million tonnes (“Mt”) @ 1.01 g/t Au containing 585,000 oz gold and an inferred resource of 24.13 Mt @

0.75 g/t Au containing 581,000 oz gold. The drill holes in this release focused on infill and extensions of the mineral resource within the current open pit gold resource from surface to vertical depths of up to 300 m below surface. Mineralization at 903 is associated with quartz veining within syenites hosted in the Tisdale and Kid-Munro volcanics, and Timiskaming age metasediments, located between 2 major splays of the Destor-Porcupine Fault Zone (“DPFZ”) in the Garrison area of the Tower Gold project.

The drill results confirmed once again the continuity of the resource estimate and extended gold mineralization within and in proximity to the PEA pit in the east and west areas of the 903 deposit.

Moneta Gold’s Tower Gold project now boasts impressive economics including a $1.459 Billion pre-tax net present value at a gold price of $1600.00 an ounce. As the company looks forward to 261,000 ounces of gold production annually with cash costs of $811.00 an ounce and all in sustaining costs at $1004.00, and a rough trading value of $8.00 per ounce the future looks golden for this very active junior in the Timmins Mining Camp.

As Moneta continues to de-risk and advance the Tower Gold project, they aim to complete a current resource infill and upgrade drill program to prepare a mineral resource estimate update for the planned Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS).

EV Nickel plans to grow and advance its Clean Nickel business

The rallying cry for more nickel was uttered by Elon Musk in 2020 when he pleaded, “Please mine more nickel, Tesla will give you a giant contract for a long period of time if you mine nickel efficiently and in an environmentally sensitive way.”

EV Nickel Inc (EVNi) has taken up the challenge of finding more sources of nickel in an environmentally sound way and is exploring and advancing the next generation of high-grade projects located south of Timmins, Ontario. To the north of Timmins, is the proposed Crawford mine, the world’s largest nickel sulphide discovery since the 1970s according to its owners Canada Nickel Company.

“Ontario has ambitious goals for its development of the Electric Vehicle ecosystem and to meet them it will take innovation and a rethink of how things are done, this is in the DNA of our Company,” said Sean Samson, EV Nickel’s President and CEO.

EV Nickel’s Shaw Dome property located 25 km southeast of Timmins, Ontario, consists of the Carlang area which is also home to

the Langmuir W4 Zone. EV Nickel plans to grow and advance a Clean Nickel TM business, targeting the growing demand for Class 1 Nickel from the electric vehicle battery sector. EV Nickel has more than 30,000 hectares to explore and has identified more than 100km of favourable strike length and it has the Redstone Mill for processing only 7 km away.

In January 2023 EV Nickel reported on assay results from the Carlang site at the Shaw Dome Deposit. “Carlang is turning out to be exactly what we expected and I am excited to see the results of the upcoming preliminary resource estimate,” said Sean Samson, President & CEO. “The A Zone will get us started but we know it’s only 1.4km of the more than 10km of prospective strike length across Carlang. This is one part of our two track strategy of focusing on both this large-scale plus the high-grade potential of our Shaw Dome Project.”

20% of the full 10 km long Carlang Area Trend. Total inferred nickel is 1,161,305 tonnes. Total indicated nickel totals 1,253,738 tonnes. With pressure on auto manufacturers to produce more EV battery vehicles to replace gasoline driven cars, there is not enough Nickel for EVs as the current market also serves the stainless-steel industry. EV Nickel’s mission is to accelerate the transition to clean energy by following a two-track approach: 1) produce more nickel and 2) produce it using clean technology. “Defining this enormous maiden mineral resource for our large scale A Zone in the Carlang area of the Shaw Dome property is a major milestone for EV Nickel,” said Samson.

“The A Zone is just the beginning of the Carlang Area because we know the host units have been identified over approximately 5 times the strike length,” added Samson. “So, if we consider the full potential of the Carlang Trend- this is the type of generational opportunity, which is near the surface and in an excellent location, that the world needs for a supply of Clean Nickel™ to help fuel the energy transition.” The amount of nickel needed for EV batteries for an average 100kWh electric vehicle battery requires about 145 pounds of nickel as cited by Bloomberg News. Using that estimate, Samson calculated that the nickel resources at Carlang alone 37 million EVs could be produced.

EV Nickel is targeting the lowest possible carbon cost per unit of Nickel and has applied for the trademark Clean Nickel™ across several jurisdictions. Clean Nickel™ will be EVNi questioning all parts of nickel production and making low-carbon production central to the business EV Nickel intends to develop in the Shaw Dome.

In March 2023 EV Nickel received a $500,000 grant from Ontario’s Critical Minerals Innovation Fund (CMIF) to pursue the development of its Clean Nickel process.

EV Nickel’s environmental sound plans start with reliance on creative processing techniques, including using bioleaching instead of smelting to extract the nickel. Bioleaching is a process that uses wellunderstood, non-pathogenic, naturally occurring bacteria on crushed ore irrigated with a mildly acidic solution and bacteria are added. The bacteria attack the bonds between the metal and sulfur to gain energy, dissolving the minerals and releasing the nickel into a solution. The process requires air, water & nutrients (including Sulphuric acid (H2S04)) which are irrigated and aerated. Bioleaching produces no gaseous emissions from the process and the bacteria consume CO2.

The traditional smelting method of applying heat to extract the metal to decompose the ore, gives off gases and produces slag inside the furnace. The smelting process emits nickel-bearing sulphide concentrates, and sulphur dioxide and sulphuric acids that lead to acid rain, sterilizing lakes and rivers. The company is also exploring methods for carbon capture potential, through waste rock and tailings during mining, to expose the serpentinite rock to air to allow this material to absorb CO2 through natural mineral carbonation.

Research funded in part with government support, is already underway in these areas.

Further actions being taken by EV Nickel to improve environmental performance includes sorting ore electrically whenever feasible, at the mine(s), to raise head grade and limit moving waste. EV Nickel also plans to phase out the use of gasoline powered vehicles and machineries by electrification of all mining operations using locally available hydroelectricity.

Status of Project

EV Nickel initiated permitting in 2022 by applying for a mining lease. Metallurgical testing is currently underway.

The company’s work plan for 2023 includes Bench testing the bioleaching process and developing a pilot plant setup and a carbon capture pilot test for which EV Nickel has applied for funding with the National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program.

Alamos Lynn Lake Project gets nod of approval

Alamos Gold’s 2023 operating year got off to a flying start when its Lynn Lake project in Northern Manitoba received a positive decision statement in March during the PDAC Convention by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Canada.

This came after Alamos completed and submitted a federal Environmental Impact Assessment (“EIS”) to the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada. As well, in accordance with the Environment Act of Manitoba, the Province issued Environment Act Licenses for the MacLellan and Gordon sites.

“Achieving both of these important regulatory milestones for the Lynn Lake Gold Project represents a multi-year, collaborative effort by our team and our commitment to environmental sustainability,” said John A. McCluskey, President and Chief Executive Officer.

“Having achieved these milestones, Alamos will continue obtaining other project related permits,” McCluskey added. “The negotiation of formal agreements with directly affected First Nations will also continue.”

Since the completion of the 2017 Feasibility Study on the Lynn Lake Project, exploration success around the Gordon and MacLellan deposits have driven a 27% increase in mineral reserves to 2.1 million ounces of gold (36.5 million tonnes grading 1.75 grams per tonne of gold (“g/t Au”). This growth along with additional exploration success over the past several years will be incorporated by Alamos into an updated Feasibility Study which is expected to be completed during the first half of 2023.

Island Gold finishes strong in 2022 with sights fixed on growth

In the Fourth Quarter of 2022 Island Gold had its strongest quarter, producing 40,500 ounces while continuing to make substantial progress on the Phase 3+ Expansion including completing the pre-sink of the shaft. Island Gold produced 133,700 ounces, while self-funding $102.0 million of growth capital with the ramp up of construction activities on the Phase 3+ Expansion. Mill throughput averaged 1,304 tpd, 9% above annual guidance of 1,200 tpd, reflecting the processing of 5,800 tonnes of Island Gold stockpiled ore at the Young-Davidson mill. Given current permit limits at Island Gold, excess stockpiles were trucked to Young-Davidson during the second and third quarters and processed as capacity was available at the Young-Davidson mill.

Island Gold generated $235.3 million of revenues for the year which were, lower than the prior year as a result of less ounces sold. Cost of sales (including mining and processing costs, royalties and amortization expense) for the year were $120.4 million which was higher

Total capital expenditures were $53.9 million in the fourth quarter, including $4.9 million of capitalized exploration. Spending ramped up significantly on the Phase 3+ Expansion during the second half of the year, including shaft site preparation and clearing. This included the pre-sinking of the shaft which was completed down to its 42 metre final depth in November. In addition, capital spending was focused on lateral development and other surface infrastructure. For 2022, capital spending was $157.3 million, inclusive of capitalized exploration of $18.8 million, higher than the prior year period given the ramp up of construction activities on the Phase 3+ Expansion.

Construction Activities Ramp Up at Island Gold

Construction activities continued to ramp up during the fourth quarter, with the focus on shaft site surface preparation and completion of the pre-sinking of the shaft and concrete foundations for shaft surface infrastructure.

Total exploration spending through 2022 was $23.5 million and was successful in driving another increase in Mineral Reserves and Resources which now total 5.3 million ounces, a 4% increase from the end of 2021. This included a 9% increase in Mineral Reserves to 1.5 million ounces (4.2 mt grading 10.78 g/t Au) with grades increasing 6%, a 2% increase in Measured and Indicated Mineral Resources to 0.3 million ounces (1.3 mt grading 7.09 g/t Au), and 2% increase in Inferred Mineral Resources to 3.5 million ounces (8.1 mt grading 13.61 g/t Au).

During the fourth quarter, six diamond drill rigs were focused on the surface directional exploration program, as well as one drill rig focused on underground exploration drilling.

Surface Exploration Drilling

A total of 9,547 metres (“m”) of surface directional drilling was completed in 12 holes during the fourth quarter. Surface directional drilling

targeted areas peripheral to Inferred Mineral Resource blocks in the Island West, Main, and East areas between 1,400 m and 1,800 m below surface with drill hole spacing ranging from 75 m to 200 m. In 2022, a total of 30,163 m surface directional drilling was completed in 31 drill holes.

Underground Exploration Drilling

During the fourth quarter of 2022, a total of 2,322 m of standard underground exploration drilling was completed in 12 holes. The objective of the underground drilling is to identify new Mineral Resources close to existing Mineral Resource or Reserve blocks.

A total of 61 m of underground exploration drift development was also completed during the fourth quarter. A total of 19,976 m underground exploration drilling was completed in 85 drill holes in 2022. For the full year, $23.5 million of exploration expenditures were incurred, of which $18.8 million were capitalized.

Island Gold is expected to produce at similar levels in 2023 as in 2022

with similar grades and processing rates. As outlined in the Phase 3+ Expansion study released in June 2022, grades mined are expected to increase in 2024, driving production higher. A further increase in grades and increase in mining rates toward the latter part of 2025, is expected to drive another increase in production in 2025.

Capital spending at Island Gold (excluding exploration) is expected to be between $210 and $235 million in 2023 as spending on the Phase 3+ Expansion ramps up, and is expected to remain at similar levels in 2024 and 2025 and then drop considerably in 2026 once the expansion is complete.

As part of a balanced approach to growth and capital allocation, the current focus of growth capital is the Phase 3+ Expansion at Island Gold. With no significant capital expected to be spent on developing Lynn Lake until the Phase 3+ Expansion is well underway, the Company remains well positioned to fund this growth internally while generating strong free cash flow over the next several years.

Young-Davidson continues to be a consistent performer

deliver on its long-term objectives including strong operational execution at all its operations. The YoungDavidson generated over $100 million of mine-site free cash flow for the second consecutive year and was a large contributor to the company’s growth with the ramp up of low cost production.

Underground mining rates were averaging 7,185 tpd in the fourth quarter and 7,627 tpd for the full year. Underground mining rates have returned to normal levels in January 2023, averaging more than 8,000 tpd, and are expected to remain at similar levels through the rest of the first quarter of 2023. Grades mined averaged 2.32 g/t Au in the fourth quarter and 2.30 g/t Au for the full year, both consistent with annual guidance of between 2.15 and 2.35 g/t Au.

The focus of the 2022 drill program was following up on the success in the 2020 and 2021 programs which extended gold mineralization below existing Mineral Reserves and Resources and intersected higher grades in the hanging wall and footwall of the deposit. In 2022, a total of 11,786 m of underground exploration drilling was completed in 18 drill holes.

Additionally, 715 m of underground exploration drift development was completed to extend drill platforms on the 9220, 9095, and 9025-levels. The focus of the underground exploration drilling program is to expand Mineral Resources in six target areas that have been identified within proximity to existing un-

With a 15-year Mineral Reserve life, Young-Davidson is well positioned to generate similar free cash flow in 2023 and over the long-term.

Model for Mining Agreements

This is the busiest area for mineral exploration and development in Ontario, and arguably in Canada. At the present time, within the territory there are 10 operating mines, and two in development. The area is full of advanced mining projects and mining exploration activities projects in gold, nickel, cobalt, silver along with other critical minerals.

Exploration Agreements Establish a Relationship with Mining Companies

Wabun Tribal Council has followed a model that enables exploration while ensuring benefits flow to Wabun area First Nations and their traditions are respected.

Wabun Tribal Council (WTC) is a non-profit regional council established in 1989, and based in Timmins, On, uniting five distinct Anishinabek First Nations. Brunswick House, Chapleau Ojibwe, Flying Post, Mattagami and Matachewan First Nation.

The Chiefs of the First Nations make up the WTC’s board of directors, advising and giving direction to the operation and initiatives of WTC. The council has played a key role in regional planning, public relations, political advocacy, and policy development.

WTC has been advocating and facilitating dynamic relationships with the mining industry.

Wabun Tribal Council’s traditional territory includes the Timmins and Kirkland Lake mining camps, two of the busiest areas for mineral exploration and development in Ontario and all of Canada.

Existing Mines include Newmont Porcupine and Borden Lake near

Chapleau, Glencore Kidd Mine, Pan American Silver Timmins West and Bell Creek Complex, McEwen Mining’s Black Fox Mine, Alamos Gold’s Young Davidson Mine in Matachewan, Agnico Eagle’s Macassa Mine in Kirkland and IAMGOLD’s Côté Gold mine near Gogama which is in the construction phase and is expected to start operations in 2024.

Led by Jason Batise and backed by five member First Nations, Wabun Tribal Council has developed a model or method for ensuring that benefits from mining projects are shared with the people who have occupied these lands for thousands of years.

“So, whenever a junior comes and they want to explore, we have a sort simple agreement where we sort of agree to begin a conversation,” Batise said. “They’re not very lucrative in terms of the money they provide to the community, but the important part is the conversation.”

Early-Stage agreements are important to Wabun Council because they establish a relationship with the mining companies that carries through to the operation and closure of the mine. “We begin the negotiation on an exploration agreement at the early stage, so that when and if there’s a discovery that’s economically viable in our mind, we’ve already got a legal way to continue the conversation whether it’s the junior company or during the construction and operation of the mine or somebody else buys them out,” explained Batise. Exploration agreements, also referred to as memorandums of understanding (MOUs) are the requirement for support on all companies seeking an exploration permit from the Ministry of Mines.

According to Batise, WTC and member First Nations have signed hundreds of MOUs with companies. They provide a commitment to the

First Nations for financial compensation for impacts, business opportunities, employment and training. As part of Wabun’s approach to accommodating mining ventures a committee of elders and knowledge holders provide support for various studies (archeological, peer review) if required, and a commitment to Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) negotiations should a mine develop.

Impact Benefit Agreements Signed When Advances to Becoming Operational

Wabun Tribal Council has 11 IBAs in place. For Wabun, the latest fruit of their labour was the sod-turning event held in September to start construction of IAMGOLD’s Côté Lake project near Gogama, a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Doug Ford. The IBA, signed two years ago, will bring jobs and economic spinoffs to Mattagami and Flying Post First Nations. “Impact benefit agreements are agreements with the mining industry where our communities work directly with the industry on how the communities are going to participate fully in the mining operation,” Batise stated.

The industry must come back to the communities and talk about things like environmental sustainability, like jobs, employment and training, revenue sharing models. And those particular things are in all of our impact benefit agreements.

“We know there are going to be impacts, but how do we manage and mitigate those?” Batise pointed out.

“ It’s probably the most important piece to our communities.” While there are no binding government legislation that requires IBAs to be part of the mining development process, a series of Supreme Court of Canada decisions in favour of First Nations rights and title in 2000, 2001 and 2003 paved the way for IBAs to become part of the informal mining approval process.

How Earnings from IBAs Help Wabun First Nation Communities

The signing of IBAs with mining companies operating in the Wabun territory has earned Wabun First Nations substantial income totaling in the 10s of millions of dollars. “It’s difficult for me to expose publicly sort of what is privately protected in those agreements because they are confidential portions of the agreements between the mining companies,” acknowledged Batise “I would unashamedly say getting our communities wealthy is Ok, I’m OK with that.”

Batise explained that mining has been going on in the Wabun Territory for over 100 years with the Timmins and Kirkland Lake gold camps starting in 1908, but it has only recently been that the First Nations have been compensated and respected in this manner. The decision on how to spend the money from the IBA is made by the First Nation community near where the mine is located. It is spent on things like post secondary education funding, community infrastructure, housing, and health care needs.

it’s a way to become self-sustainable. Instead of living off government treaty revenues alone.

Strengths of Wabun Tribal Council’s Model

One of the strengths of the WTC mining approach is that it is organized, consistent, and result driven. The approach has been carefully crafted in order to provide certainty, clarity and consistency for the First Nations and for industry.

“Our success is attributed to our WTC mining policy that is consistent, streamlined and result-driven,” stated Batise. “The goal is to facilitate dialogue between First Nations and mining stakeholders to encourage meaningful relationships that deliver results to all parties.”

“To WTC and member First Nations, agreements are at the foundation of free, prior and informed consent,” explained Batise. Agreements must be signed between WTC and mining companies for activities to take place in their traditional territories.” In 2020, Wabun Tribal Council, based in Timmins, was named Entrepreneurial Community of the year by Northern Ontario Business Awards. The award was in recognition of their engagement with mining communities and the benefits that have followed to the member First Nations. Since launching in 1986, the Northern Ontario Business Awards has become the largest annual gathering of its kind in Northern Ontario. These awards serve to heighten the visibility and influence of business in the North and bring peer recognition to the business leaders who create prosperity and economic growth.

Wesdome looks to increase Mineral Reserves

Wesdome Mines is planning to turn 2023 into a year of successes.

In January 2023 long-time President and CEO, Duncan Middlemiss announced his retirement. This year Wesdome is searching for a replacement for Duncan Middlemiss. In January Wesdome announced board chair Warwick Morley-Jepson will be replacing Duncan Middlemiss on an interim basis. An executive search firm will find a successor. Middlemiss has agreed to stay in an advisory capacity on a temporary basis.

A bright spot for Wesdome last year was the Kiena Mine in Val d’Or, Quebec began commercial production in November, 2022.

Duncan was thanked for his leadership over the last six-and-half years and for guiding Kiena into production during the pandemic.

The company also plans to bolster their mineral reserves with a focused drilling program at Kiena and at their Eagle River gold mine in Ontario.

“With an existing large resource

base, efforts in 2023 will focus on converting a portion of these resources to reserves. Additionally, we have a number of recently discovered zones and exploration targets at both projects,” Wesdome stated in a news release.

Wesdome Gold Mines updated mineral resource and reserve estimates for its two high-grade underground assets: the 100% owned Kiena mine complex in Val d’Or, Quebec, and the Eagle River mine near Wawa, Ontario.

Plans for improving the company’s performance in 2023 started with the announcement in March for 137,000 metres of drilling with a focus on expanding mineral reserves and resources. The drilling program will also further delineate new discoveries made at the Kiena Mine, including the south limb of the A Zone and several adjacent hanging wall zones which remain outside of mineral reserves. An exploration ramp is specifically budgeted to follow-up and expand on the nearsurface Presqu’île Zone. Kiena

ramp development has continued ahead of budget, with completion of the ramp to the 129 m-level scheduled by year end. Completion of this ramp segment will provide access to the high grade Kiena Deep A Zone, which is associated with areas with the highest ounces per vertical metre located within the zone.

To the west of Eagle River, the company believes there is potential for the delineation of a parallel Falcon structure and further to the East down dip extension of the high grade 300 Zone that could meaningfully enhance future operational flexibility of the asset. With an existing large resource base, efforts in 2023 will focus on converting a portion of these resources to reserves. Additionally, we have several recently discovered zones and exploration targets at both projects. As of December 31, 2022, the Toronto-based gold miner’s combined proven and probable mineral reserves totalled 2.4 million tonnes grading 12.9 grams per tonne gold, for 1 million ounces of contained gold. This represents a 17% decrease in ounces from a year ago (2.9 million tonnes at 12.6 g/t gold). Its combined measured and indicated mineral resources (exclusive of reserves) were 350,000 gold ounces (1.4 million tonnes grading 7.7 g/t gold), while the combined inferred mineral resources were 1.1 million ounces (6.4 million tonnes grading 5.2 g/t gold). Both resource categories were slightly higher than that of year-end 2021.

According to Wesdome, the reserves and resource estimates at both sites reflect higher cut-off grades and a higher allocation towards definition and infill drilling (including 25,000 metres in the Falcon Zone at Eagle River). They also reflect a more stringent and robust approach to reconciliation, 3D modeling and resource classification at both properties.

Latest: Current focus of exploration activity is the McKinnon Deposit, and enlarging the deposit. Drilling targets include step-out at depth and off trend of the McKinnon deposit. New targets are actively being developed on the remainder of the 80 km long property package through mapping and geophysics.

Location: Montclerg is approximately 48km east of Timmins, Pen Gold is 50km southwest of Timmins, Dore Gold is located approximately 30km northwest of IAMGOLD’s Cote Lake Project.

Specs: Montclerg consists of 5 patented mining claims and 110 unpatented claims that cover 10 kilometres of the Pipestone Deformation Zone. Pen Gold is an approximately 475 square kilometre land package. Dore Gold is approximately 212 square kilometres in size, and covers a 12 kilometre long section of Archean Greenstone.

Project: Munro-Croesus Gold

Location: Located 75 kilometres east of Timmins, near Matheson

Specs: 100 percent owned by HighGold, includes the past producing Croesus Mine, which yielded some of the highest grade gold ever mined in Ontario. Approximately 63 square kilometres in size. Is comprised of orogenic gold, and runs amongst the PorcupineDestor and Pipestone faults.

Latest: The company says an active drill program will continue throughout 2023 on Munro-Croesus. Current programs represent the first exploration on the property in 90 years or so, after HighGold completed a major land consolidation and increased the property’s size by 140 percent between 2020 and 2022. HighGold also has projects in the area with their Golden Mile, located 9km northeast from Newmont’s Hoyle Pond operation, and Timmins South properties.

Project: Gold Rush

Location: 25 kilometres west of Timmins, 11 kilometres northwest of Pan American Silver’s Timmins West Mine. Specs: Gold Rush North is 875 hectares in size, Gold Rush South is 1,525 hectares.

Latest: In late September 2022, the company announced it had renegotiated the terms of the 2022 option payment for its Gold Rush North property. Sanatana paid $22,500 in cash and issued 130,000 common shares of the Company. They announced that they would issue a notice of termination regarding their Gold Rush South property.

Project: Carscallen Gold Project

Location: 25 kilometres southwest of Timmins

Specs: 47 square kilometres, 8 gold zones (Zam Zam, Shenkman, Jowsey, 1010 North and South, Mystery, Behemoth, and Wire Gold).

Latest: This project is in the advanced exploration stage, and focuses on gold and base metals. Over the past 13 years, Melkior has completed over 36,000 meters of drilling and has revealed several high-grade gold zones located within a 1,000 metre by 1,000 metre corridor. The gold system has been traced from surface down to 400 metres below surface. There have been 37 historical intercepts over 25 grams of gold per tonne within the Zam Zam and Shenkman zones. Preliminary metallurgical testing shows 95 percent gold recovery from 8.72 grams per tonne of gold head grade material at the Zam Zam zone.

JUNIOR MINING ROUNDUP CRITICAL MINERALS

The critical minerals sector in Ontario is a big key to the province’s financial future as the electric vehicle market continues to grow. There are several interesting exploration opportunities from junior companies on the go.

BRIXTON METALS

Headquarters: Vancouver

Project Name: The Langis Project

Targets: Silver, Nickel, Cobalt

Location: Approximately 15 kilometres north of Temiskaming Shores, within Timiskaming First Nation traditional territory. Highway 65 runs through the property, with power, railway, mills, and a permitted refinery in the immediate vicinity.

Specs: It is a brownfield exploration opportunity for high-grade silver, nickel, and cobalt. The Langis Mine saw past production from 1908 to 1989, and officially closed in 1990 due to a steep price drop in silver.

Latest: In late March, Brixton announced the final results from its 2022 drill campaign, which started in November and completed in late December, and consisted of 35 drill holes totaling 7,115 metres. One drill hole yielded 7 metres of 0.37% Cobalt from 120m depth, and another yielded 9.0 metres of 1037 g/t silver from 165m depth. The company said that although they don’t currently have a budget for 2023 relating to this property, it does warrant further exploration drilling.

E.V. NICKEL

Headquarters: Toronto

Project Name: Shaw Dome Project

Targets: Nickel

Location: 25 kilometres southeast of Timmins. Approximately 7 kilometres by road from Redstone Mill.

Specs: The company has three property groups: Carman, Shaw Dome, and Langmuir. Land package spreads across 30,000 hectares, including 100 kilometres of favourable strike length.

The Shaw Dome hosts Kambalda style nickel sulfide mineralization favourable for hosting nickel, copper, and platinum group mineralization.

Latest: On March 28, the company announced high grade nickel intercepts from a 2023 drill program in the east extension of the W4 zone. A drill hole showed 13.1m grading 1.47% Ni including 4.7m grading 2.77% Ni, as well as 6.8m grading 1.58% Ni including 2.1m grading 3.01% Ni. An updated resource estimate will be completed in Q2 of 2023.

VR RESOURCES LTD

Headquarters: Vancouver

Project Name: Hecla-Kilmer

Targets: Rare Earth Elements, Copper, Gold

Location: 23 kilometres to the west of the Otter Rapids hydro facility, on provincial crown land with mineral rights administered by the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry. The property lies within the traditional territories of the Moose Cree and Taykwa Tagamou First Nations.

Specs: 224 mineral claims in one contiguous block approximately 6 by 7 kilometres, covering 4,617 hectares. It is 100 percent owned by VR. There are no underlying lease payments on the property, nor are there any joint ventures or back-in interests.

Latest: The company planned delineation drilling for the fall of 2022, carrying into the winter season of early 2023.

CLASS 1 NICKEL

Headquarters: Toronto

Project: Alexo-Dundonald Project

Targets: Cobalt, Copper, Nickel Location: 45 kilometres northeast of Timmins, with year-round road access.

Specs: It comprises four deposits and 92 granted exploration licenses, with a combined area of 19 square kilometres over a 14 kilometre strike length. The last mining was completed in 2004/2005 30.1Kt ore at 1.92%, and an attractive operating cost of just $1.06 per pound of nickel. The company says its a shallow, high-grade resource, with excellent access to existing brownfield infrastructure.

Latest: The company has yet to publish a PEA(Preliminary Economic Assessment), although management has been in dialogue with top-tier automakers, highlighting the demand for a production restart, and the availability of the nickel resource. Through it would be utilizing third-party facilities for toll milling, management expects that production of a pre-concentrate could be ramped up quickly with little to minimal pre-production capital expenditures.

FOX RIVER RESOURCES CORPORATION

Nobel Mineral Exploration A project generator

In the mining business “If you don’t find it you can’t mine it.”

Noble Mineral Exploration makes it their business to find it. Whether its nickel, copper and zinc near Timmins, Ontario or Cere Villebon in Quebec and even rare earth elements and niobium near Hearst Ontario.

Nobel Mineral is a project generator. The company identifies mining potential on properties that were unexplored or underexplored and that has not in any way been followed up on. The company then undertakes airborne surveillance and follows up with a drilling program to the point where other parties such as Canada Nickel in the Project 81 area are brought in as partners. “The philosophy of being a project generator is to look for these under or unexplored areas that have geological potential of where some early work had been done 50, 60, 70 years ago,” explained Noble Minerals CEO Vance White during a video interview with Inside Exploration program. With a talented team of mining explorers Noble Minerals has a stable of mining claims it is exploring on its own or in tandem with companies such as Canada Nickel and MacDonald Mines. In November, 2022 drill programs began on the Kidd/Carnegie, Nagagami projects Ontario and Cere Villebon in Quebec. This program will be followed by an advance of drill program. Noble Minerals holds 25,000 hectares of mineral rights in the Timmins-Cochrane areas known as Project 81.

“Inco had done some exploration in the area back in the 1960s and returned about 1,000 feet plus of nickel, but INCO did not follow up and never filed with the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines,” Vance White recalled. Noble purchased the property from forestry company Abitibi Bowater in 2011.

“The first thing we did was to initiate the consultation process the Wabun tribal council for the Mattagami and the Matachewan First Nations, “ White said.

The Kidd Creek ll Project

The Kidd Creek ll Project consists of a group of patents and claims including 50% held with 11530313 Canada Inc acquired from Explor Resources in the vicinity of the Kidd Creek Mine. At the Kidd Creek Project line cutting was completed the IP survey near completion on 4 primary targets in Carnegie Twp in advance of a proposed 2000 metre drill program. The Kidd deposit is one of the largest volcanogenic massive sulfide ore deposits in the world, and one of the world’s largest base metal deposits and lies within the Abitibi greenstone belt and is presently owned by Glencore.

Exploration of this area in the past was hindered by so many companies with small land packages. Over the years, Noble has been successful in assembling one of the largest land inventories in the vicinity of the Kidd Creek Mine. Noble Minerals is finishing strategic Induced Polarization surveys within 2 km

of the Kidd Creek open pit on the Fly Creek Rhyolite. The target of the program is rhyolite intercalated with ultramafic rocks on an anticlinal structure. It is postulated that these rhyolites are the same age as the Kidd Creek mineralized rhyolites.

In addition, the Fly Creek Rhyolite may be the faulted extension of the Chance Rhyolite where Texas Gulf previously intersected several drill holes containing lead, zinc, and silver mineralization. To the west Noble will be investigating a property with Induced Polarization that lies within 600 metres and on the same stratigraphic horizon as the Chance mineralization and the Kidd Creek Mine.

Nagagami Project

Noble Minerals also holds 14,600 hectares in the Nagagami Carbonatite Complex and its 4,600 hectares in the Boulder Project both near Hearst, Ontario. Drilling has been completed on the Nagagami Project. A total of 1302 meters were drilled in two holes. The core has been logged, sampled, and submitted to the lab. A total of 195 samples were split and submitted to the lab. Results were expected by the end of November or early December, 2022. In January 2023 additional sampling of the core in Nagagami Project hole NG22-02 identified:

• 61.0 metre intercept (between 373 and 434m) contains 0.554% Total Rare Earth Oxides and 0.098% Nd2O3

• Above intercept includes 17.0 metres* (between 380 and 397m) containing 0.665% TREO and 0.118% Nd2O3.

• Two smaller intercepts containing 0.573 % TREO and 0.105% Nd2O3 over 4.0 metres* (between 528 and 532m) and 0.605 % TREO and 0.119% Nd2O3 over 7.0 metres (between 538 and 545m), were also discovered.

• A slightly longer mineralized intercept also contains 0.24% Ce2O3 over 89.0 metres* (345 to 434m).

For comparison purposes, the average Dy2O3, Nd2O3, Pr2O3, and Tb2O3 content of the 61.0 metre intercept is Cont’d on pg. 84

equivalent to 5.2 g/t of gold (comparison made using US$ REE + Gold prices reported by Kitco.com at 4 pm on January 13, 2022).

Additional work being undertaken on the Nagagami project would include; preparation for geophysical surveys to identify the distribution of rock units in the core of the carbonatite complex; studying the area around the property to identify a possible location for a new road to facilitate mobilizing a diamond drill onto the property via ground rather than using a helicopter; meetings with communities near Hearst to share Noble’s planned exploration program; and lithogeochemical and mineralogical studies to characterize the wallrocks hosting the mineralized zone(s) and identify the TREO-bearing minerals.

Boulder Project

Noble Minerals has identified several exploration targets using the recently completed magnetic and electromagnetic airborne survey. Some targets were located on property adjacent to the existing Boulder Project property. Noble acquired 88 additional mining claims to cover geophysical anomalies near the existing land package. The next steps being taken to prepare for exploration on the Noble Minerals’ Boulder Project property will include;

• submitting an exploration permit application to the Ontario Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS) for the planned diamond drilling program;

• organizing a prospecting program to

explore for outcrop/boulders that could explain the geophysical targets;

• follow up talks with surface rights owners above Noble’s mining claims to arrange access for drill rigs to the exploration targets located on or near their properties;

• and meetings in the communities near Hearst to open dialogue on the project.

In Quebec, Noble Minerals owns 3,700 hectares in the Buckingham Graphite Property, 10,152 hectares in the Havre St Pierre Nickel, Copper, PGM property, 518 hectares in the Laverlochere Nickel, Copper, PGM property and 482 hectares in the Cere-Villebon Nickel, Copper, PGM property.

Noble Mineral Exploration has shareholdings in Canada Nickel Company Inc., Spruce Ridge Resources Ltd., Go Metals Corp. and MacDonald Mines Exploration Ltd., and an interest in the Holdsworth gold exploration property in Wawa, Ontario as well as an additional ~11,000 hectares in the Timmins area and ~14,400 hectares of mining claims in Central Newfoundland.

VW, GM, Stellantis, LG, and Umicore are some of the heavy hitters already setting up shop in Ontario. But until recently, where they were all going to source that battery-grade lithium wasn’t talked about much – at least not publicly.

Supply chain concerns are driving many Western countries to find lithium in nearby allied countries. As tensions grow between China and Western nations, so too do questions about how secure those lithium and battery-grade lithium hydroxide supply chains can be. As we found during COVID, supply chains need to be stronger. Companies are looking for environmentally friendly solutions, too. The closer the sources of lithium are,

the greener the whole process can be.

“If you ship lithium from Australia, the carbon footprint would be immense,” said Andrew Kane, the Natural Resources Business Development Manager at the Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC). “But if it’s processed here and we only have to ship into southern Ontario, the carbon footprint is miniscule.”
