Getting started

[1] Go to http://www.wordpress.com

When you first get started, WordPress shows a simplified version of your site’s dashboard:

[2] Click ‘Create Website’ Step 1: [3] Enter the site address you would like [4] If your address is not already in use, a green tick will appear [5] Click ‘Create Your Site and Continue’ Step 2: [6] Enter your email address [7] Create a WordPress username [8] Create a Password [9] Click ‘Next Step’ Step 3: [10] Click ‘No Thanks’ for a custom address Step 4: [11] Choose a theme by clicking one of the examples (you can change this later) [12] Click ‘Next Step’

Manage your profile & account

Create a new post

Step 5: [13] Choose the free plan by clicking ‘Select Free’ [14] You are now ready to start posting

[2] CREATING CONTENT

Creating a post A post is a dynamic piece of content. It is date-sensitive, so will usually move down a list of posts as new ones are added. [1] Click the ‘Create a New Post’ icon

[7] Click ‘Publish’ when finished, or ‘Save Draft’ to complete later [8] To see your post, click ‘View Post’ in the confirmation banner

[9] You can edit your post via the ‘Posts’ link on the dashboard, or by clicking ‘Edit’ near the post on your website:

[2] Enter a post title [3] Add text by typing in the main box and using the formatting options [4] Add images and video by clicking ‘Add Media’:

a. Use ‘Upload Files’ to select a file from your computer b. Use ‘Media Library’ to select a file already uploaded to WordPress c. Use ‘Insert from URL’ to select media from the web (be aware of copyright) [5] Add a hyperlink by highlighting the text/image and clicking the link icon [6] Click ‘Preview’ to see what your post will look like

Creating a page A page is a static piece of content, such as an ‘About’ or ‘Contact’ page. [1] On your site’s dashboard, find ‘Pages’ to the left and click ‘Add’

[6] You can edit your page via the ‘Pages’ link on the dashboard, or by clicking ‘Edit’ near the page on your website

[2] Use the text editor as when creating a new post (see above) [3] Click ‘Preview’ to see what your page will look like [4] Click ‘Publish’ when finished, or ‘Save Draft’ to complete later [5] To see your page, click ‘View Page’ in the confirmation banner
