PRODUCT & STRUCTURAL DESIGN A piece of product or furniture design, adaptable and environmentally friendly storage units for refugees
DESIGN INSPIRATION
DESIGN RESEARCH The Refugees are trying to escape due to war, poverty, gang violence or wharever reason. Most do not have enough money to pay for,and usually not enough time to get, their documentation. For these situation, the refugees had less time to pick up their necessarity. We are designing a product for them, they can take it to somewhereand sleep at any place immediately.

HOW TO WORK The Shelter Cloth is a moveable homes for refugees. There is a extended area for the private space. Meantime, it looks like a normal cloth unless people use it as a home. The user dress it up, then find a safety space to sleep, they can extend over a wide expanse of space.
Development Concept After some feedback from peer and tutors, We do some change for shape. It can be used as a suitcase. It is easy to travel with this.

BACKGROUND Market Research is big business. Companies hugely value the information gathered from varied demographics, but this can be a challenge, especially in rural Scotland. The majority of market research undertaken in Scotland is limited to the central belt because of the logistical constraints of providing a private space to conduct said research. This work is usually undertaken in hotel conference suites, which is easy in Glasgow or Edinburgh, but not so easy in rural areas. Hiring large conference suites for small scale studies is also costly and wasteful.
BRIEF: Jump on the Street Design of an innovative solution for the gathering of market research data in remote areas. The project will require the customisation of a mobile vehicle to fulfil the physical and social requirements of data collection from the public, considering the practical, emotional, aesthetic and brand requirements this raises.
GOALS OF THE PROJECT The goals of the project was to to fulfill the aims in the brief and incorporate them in with the companies image. The project was to customise a mobile vehicle to fulfil the physical and social requirements of data collection from the public, considering the practical, emotional, aesthetic and brand requirements it raises. We feel we have met the briefs requirements and goals as we have created a strong project phase by evaluating each stage effectively and effieciently. The main goal was to Design an innovative solution for the gathering of market research data in remote areas, With this goal in mind we designed a robust and strong concept which can be taken forward and manufactured. We wanted to meet most of the requirements given to us on the brief but as all ways there is compromises in the design so some features where not able to be carried out as to what we initially wanted. This design will help the business grow and become a lot more well known in the market research as we feel the appropriate branding on the van is sufficient and clear. Also the style of the van is modern, clean, welcoming, fun and effortless. When a business seems friendly, fun and appealing they are more likely to gather crucial information they are looking for.

MODEL PROPOSAL
The interior of the van will have a very approachable and fun feel to it with the use of bold and contrasting colours such as, orange, purple and green. This type of aesthetic will attract a wide demographic and create a less corporate atmosphere for both interview and home space. At the front of the van, there will be the kitchen unit and bathroom unit. The kitchen unit is made up of three separate parts: the base unit which will serve as the sink with the fridge/freezer underneath it, a middle component that serves as a cover for the sink and a counter which will be able to slide up and down, and a top cupboard unit for storage and a space for a 3 in 1 microwave (grill, oven and microwave). All these units will be made out of particle board with a thermo foil finish and will be 1 third the width of the van to give more space for the bathroom, which will be separated from the work area of the van with a sliding door. The bathroom is made out of revolving modular aluminium units to ultimately save space and create a more innovative design rather than using common separate bathroom components. Each unit will have a different function, e.g. the bottom unit will be the toilet, the second will be a sink, the top unit for the shower head, and others for basic storage. These all run up an aluminium post that serves as a cover for water pipes and water storage. The back half of the van will have a small platform, made from cross-laminated timber with an ash veneer, that serves as a seating area for six when conducting market research. Underneath, will be the double bed, which is accessed by opening up the floor of the platform. This saves having to roll up a mattress and storing it when not in use or using a type of foldable camper bed that creates clutter in the work area. It is simple and quick to access/hide. The seats will be polyurethane square stools with will be purple/orange in colour. This shape makes them easy to move around and stack when not in use. Each will also have an indent in the face of them to store an iPad which can be taken out by the clients when required to answers surveys etc and put back to allow them to charge. This idea makes it more conventional for both client and employees so that iPads do not need to constantly be passed back and forth, and stored elsewhere to charge.

I am charging the bathroom unit. My concept is that making sure all the necessary equipment will be in one multi-function product in a small space. So the bottom unit will be the toilet, the second will be a sink, the top unit for the shower head, and others for basic storage. MATERIALS FOR PRODUCT DESIGN PROJECT BRIEF “By simply changing the material of virtually any product without altering one aspect of it’s design, one can change it from a commodity product into luxury goods, or vice versa” --Ultra Materials This module provides a comparison between the use and sourcing of overseas materials procurement and manufacturing in design and of that in the UK. You will also explore associated issues; intellectual protection (IPR), communications, costs, transportation, and ethical practice. Professional methods used in industry will be examined as exemplars of good practice in design including the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM). This project requires you to design a kitchen or bathroom tap.The manufacturing method that you are designing for is a suitable metal casting process that you should determine as well as the material. Other processes and materials can be considered for components, but the main body must be cast. Information about casting processes can be found in Materials and Design by Mike Ashby. The operation of the tap will be by motion detecting sensors and the design should feature your interpretation of this.

TAPS IN THE BATHROOM RESEARCH AND RENDERING Die casting process is a metal or alloy poured into the chamber die casting machine, so that it fills the cavity, and molded obtain a cast casting methods. Draft angles are almost always necessary for any vertical wall of an injection molded product.The draft angles is 0.5 for this tap. This tap has already avoid negative draft. Design all sections to be as uniform in thickness as possible. The hollow is 1.5mm.
Taps material will be used zinc alloy( ZAMAK 3), and the whole will be polishing as the last one process . Taps will be installed in wash basin. These materials will conform British Standard. The sensor LED will be installed in taps surface in order to convenient user use it. Sensors were installed in the faucet projected portion.There is a clear line that is due to draft angle. Users can experience the sensor switching off automatically when washing hands, which is due to the user moving away from the sensing zone.

TAPS IN THE BATHROOM FUNCTION & MANUFACTURING & PACKING FUNCTION This is a healthy process the user don’t have to touch the tap and water come out. cross-infection could be avoided by this way. The top of this tap is equipment of LED which shows the temperature of water. A steady 37 degrees centigrade water would be spouted at once. This temperature will feel warm on the skin. User could change the temperature by touch it. It is allowed for user to adjust the temperature to their needs for maximum time of 5 minutes. The sensor of the hot is setting 50 degrees centigrade which is the highest temperature, as that temperature is not enough to burns user.
MANUFACTURING SPECIFICATION Die casting process is a metal or alloy poured into the chamber die casting machine , so that it fills the cavity , and molded obtain a cast casting methods. There are three major phenomena: one push, and the second molten alloy liquid flow, and its three cooling and solidification. Liquid metal flows into injection barrel, the right pins force the materials from barrel into mold. And then the materials cools in mold for a while. The lift pins move in order to force the part from mold after the mold opened. It would be presented by half part of mold. It should be ejected that except main two cavities.
PACKAGING & TRANSPORT In order to protect the product when it is transported, the taps shall be laid aside in the trilaminar corrugated carton, surrounding foam and plank. This cardboard should be easily recycled and painting. The introduction of taps and logo of companies should be printed in the box in different language. The quality of boxes should be considered for different target market. If this product is transported to overseas, this product prefer to transport by train or ship. Air transport costs are too high, flight is not suitable for transport heavy products. The boxes shall be placed in ship container or freight train. Otherwise, these boxes shall be placed on pallets or container of special delivery truck if these taps are transported in local place.The packing of tap is corrugated carton.

DUTCH DESIGN WEEK INSPIRATION BRIEF We would recommend that you arrive in Eindhoven at the front entrance of the train station on Wednesday 24th at 10am. Then we visit Exhibitions and events in Eindhoven. You will have been introduced to other parts of the city you could then explore further. The trip will form the basis of a studio project. Â On Friday we will be joined by a local architect and spend the day on an architecture and urban design tour of the city plus visiting design shops /studios. The brief is to design a small household object that could retail in some of the outlets seen on the trip to Amsterdam & Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven (Frozen Fountain, Droog, small independent shops/ galleries, etc.). There is the opportunity to use this project out come to develop the product for manufacture in the UK.

MODELING “spicy rack� is an idea to help the cooker who have to organize the stuff of spicy in kitchen. The project is a kit with a dual purpose. When users need to use the spice, the box can be taken out from the shelves spicy. You pour the spicy from the tube out. If this is a common spicy, it can be stored in left corner of the chopping board and user-friendly is wonderful way to cooker with combine ergonomics.

We know very little about the ocean that plays a role in everything from the air we breathe to daily weather and climate patterns. Therefore, ocean exploration should be establish for reveal new sources for everyone.
RESEARCH It is dangerous when people walk in deep-sea. Shark attacks, though rare, are most likely to occur near shore, typically inshore of a sandbar or between sandbars.The relative risk of a shark attack is very small, but the risks should always be minimized whenever possible. Keep an eye out for jellyfish. All jellies sting, but not all jellies have poison that hurts humans.

GAME INTRODUCTION GAME RULES The game has two eggs with two different facial expressions they represent the image of the two players 1 and 2. There is a dice is arranged on the center of the screen, dice was randomly thrown there are one to six digits can be shown. When dice came to a stop show that the number represents the number of steps forward. When the eggs reach the end of the track, it can no longer move forward, which represents the this players has won, then click on egg , the screen will appear the words “you win� It is to show the outcome of the game, (The game system uses the same dice, in order to ensure fairness and randomness of the game, use two eggs with two different facial expressions just in order to distinguish the player order.
Processing is real funny software; therefore it makes me fall in love with it. And it is an easier program than other software. Much more games use JAVA to control the system. Game added music, pictures, text, and clicked on a region, horizontal and vertical coordinates of the target will move at a constant figure. However, there were many loopholes in the game after some testing; it is the need for further development.

EVALUATION TESTING FURTHER DEVELOPMENT
EVALUATION 1.There are more problems came out, when I developed it. I need more knowledge to deal with them. I cannot deal with the problems that the screen can become the text ‘ you win!’ when the first user arrived at the end station. So I just finished that the players should click the mouse when one of them arrived. 2.Some great ideas can’t display by the program. Therefore give up some great idea. At the first time, I prefer to do the eggs’ step is not only according to the number of the dice, but also according to the different area. 3.Using the every single current skill is easier. However it is difficult to connect them together. There came out a lot of problems during writing the program.
FURTHER DEVELOPMENT 1.he main problem is that when the first player reaches the end, the screen does not automatically appear “you win!” in the subtitles; instead the players themselves need to click on his picture to complete the subtitles scrolling. This code of processing is difficult for me. So I can figure out this code and develop it. 2.Mouse press is different with Touchpad. The touchpad is more sensitive; any little pressure will be displayed on the screen. The players’ intensity will affect the click time on the dice. But it seriously affects the fairness of this game. 3. Clicking the area is too small, and not easy to click.
4.It is necessary to do enough prepare work in order to do more useless work. And having genies brain calculate the position of every simply ellipse or rectangular is main requirement.

The Emotional Objects
Investigating Human Auto-Response
The human body is a complex system of surfaces and organs that can detect heat, light, sound, movement, and we respond to these stimuli, or inputs based upon a contextual map of our surroundings, and in some cases our emotional state. As well as this, emotional stimuli can also elicit a physical response that for many of us is uncontrollable, for example blushing. To give our model a persona, it was designed to look like Captain American who has a shield. That shield could protect him. The inside of our box is a scared thing, so the user need something to protect against danger.The idea being that when the HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor was triggered, he would appear aroused. The CEM-1203 buzzer would discrete ampling in the base of the cube with the LEDs were placed in his eyes and surface making it appear that he was fighting around. The final project outcome will show the construction of the 10cm x 10cm x 10cm box which will house the Arduino kit. The kit features an HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor which will respond to human interaction and a CEM1203 buzzer which will be used to suggest activity.

BRIEF This Module aims to design a computer program for an Arduino microprocessor, which is able to take this input and control an output device in a predetermined. For our final assignment, we have been tasked with creating an object that exhibits a human characteristic when prompted by an input factor, based on a specific human response to stimuli. We were asked to choose one emotion from the list below or come up with our own: The object is to be housed in a 10cm x 10cm x 10cm cube and display a human type emotion. For my project, I have chosen to go for the emotion of scared.
BRAINSTORMING A cube that responds to a sensory input and gives and sensory out put. Frog in a box! Scared frog, come too close, starts to croak. Well, kind of. It’s meant to represent a form of hiding and the sensor I have looks like frogs eyes. I had originally wanted to make it a little critter running away but the wheels hadn’t arrived on time for us to make that idea happen so we had to change it. It has a persona. I shouldn’t make it a character. It’s persona is that there’s something in the cube that is scared.

MODEL MAKING TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH The HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor is a very affordable proximity/distance sensor that has been used mainly for object avoidance in various robotics projects . It essentially gives your Ar- duino eyes / spacial awareness and can prevent your stuff from object. The CEM-1203 buzzer used in this instructable will need a resistor as well for the Arduino’s sake. The buzzer will also buzz in any direction. For consist- ency, we’ll be plugging the negative side of the buzzer toward the GND (ground) pin. The most fun you can have (after blinking LEDs) is using sensors to detect whats going on in the world and act on that information. The sensor has methods of interfacing, that can make it a real pain to work with. The LDR( light dependent resistor) has to have the simplest code, so it is easy to control.

It offers excellent range accuracy and reading in an package.
After these four weeks, I can using the code of Ardunio to testing stuff. Therefore, for this project I am trying to design a emotional response to nosie, which must consider both the holistic design experience, this means the physical form is as important as the technological sophistication. CURRENT BRANDING The current branding has been done by a multitude of designers, resulting in a clutter of visuals, fonts and colours. Although various aspects of the branding works well, it is lost amongst the shear scale of information and misdirection. The logo has been causing the charity trouble,as they find it hard to apply it to their work.It also doesn’t feature their much wanted Edinburgh mark within it. The website has alot of information within it,and once presented with the first page, it can become overwhelming. Again, various aspects work well with some continuous parts of the pages and professional tone of voice. Yet, it’s hard to navigate, especially when presented with multiple background photos at low res. The colour scheme seems random, with colours clashing on every page and no clear coordination.
Life Care
RESEARCH The main two compeititors we found were Blue Bird Care and Garvald Edinburgh. Both based locally, they offer the same standard of care and support as Lifecare. Yet, Garvald also offers a wide range of activities, classes and venues; therefore they can be seen as the main competitor. When looking at their branding it becomes clear that their logo, website structure and associated branding are simple and colour coordinated. For example, Blue Bird Care uses the colour blue prominantly, with a constant blue and white theme throughout their branding. The audience is vastly different to the market within these charities. With theolder generation, people with dementia and difficulties being the audience, it is important to take their situation into account when designing.
LOGOS
SIGNAGE
Combining the words Life and Care to form one solid logo is a key factor in the way the brand has been simplyfied. The small petal shape that stamps the logo as the mark is a drawing of the seed of life, yet can be applied in many different ways and perhaps even interpreted in more ways than one. This was intentional, as we wanted the logo to signify not only life, but also the care one takes with a flower petal; as they are fragile.
Signage would be used throughout the building to guide people to certain the designated areas. The colours correlate with the areas throughout the branding.
It became apparent to us that the brand needed a logo that could be used significantly for various areas. As the charity boasts a vast number of things it delivers, we used a colour scheme to pinpoint each area. The colours are chosen to stay vibrant, yet friendly and inkeeping with the overall brand idea. The schemes would also run right through the individual areas of the brand. For example, the Cafe would not only have a blue logo, it would also have blue napkins with staff wearing blue uniforms. This is used to not only help outside viewers of the brand to easily understand the different deilverables on offer, but also to help residents understand who’s who and what’s where. One big area the charity needs help in is volunteers. They run a service which allows those who cannot shop on their own to have assistance, yet volunteer numbers are low.
Culture Jam
Using a purposely high built shelving unit, we will put items to buy on the highest, hardest to reach shelves. Many items will be stuck down (via velcro etc) so that the items will be incredibly difficult to grab. It not only shows to the customer how difficult it is for one of Lifecare’s residents to go shopping, but also allows the customer to interact with the charity within their everyday routine.

Using the dynamic brand and colours in the poster design. Using simple shapes and blocks to create objects that represent the charity and its different aspects. The blocks that make up each part represent how Lifecare has so much going on and is made up of different parts to help the older people.

The dynamic colour scheme is implemented here strongly, combining multiple existing booklets into fewer.

4TH YEAR MAJOR PROJECT SLEEP IN CHAIR Sleeping plays a vital role in individual’s daily life. People spend about one-third of their lives asleep in night. Therefore, there are numerous products related to sleeping, such as bed, mattress, and pillow. However, the product design related to daytime napping in workplace is an under-researched theme. short nap in daytime has positive effects on people. Because employee could more concentrate, organized and efficient on work after a short time sleeping. The siesta habit also has a positive effect on people’s health, an appropriate daytime nap can reduce cardiovascular stress and help loosen stiff muscles and relax the joints. Therefore, a research about the characteristics about short sleep in daytime and how product design could support the short break during the daytime is necessary. Taking a short nap after lunch is common in a number of countries, because in some countries the afternoon heat has negative influence on work productivity. My major project will exam the impact and potential outcomes of the challenge for design a product if we did not have or need bed rooms, beds or pillows. Produce design that relates to the researched scenario of short sleep patterns. Imagine opportunites for designer to create new design.
