FIBRE TERMINATION SERVICE Qualified and speedy service The nature of the broadcast market often means customer requirements are urgent and so Canford’s fibre service was set-up to offer a short lead-time for the termination of broadcast connectors: LEMO SMTPE and Neutrik opticalCON. Fibre termination is delicate, precision work. Canford staff complete specialist certified training programmes before they can produce the mission critical cables which are often deployed at broadcast studios, premier football grounds and other outside broadcast venues. Test certificates are available if required, and will certify curvature radius, linear and angular offset, spherical fibre height along with a 3D illustration of the ferrule profile.

NEW CANFORD 4 WAY SMPTE 311 BREAKOUT ENCLOSURE These wall/ceiling mountable enclosures will be manufactured to accept either 2, 4 or 6 incoming SMPTE 311M cables and are designed to enable the respective fibre and electrical core to be broken out to LC (or SC) bulkheads and 6 pin Mate-N-Lok panel connectors. Similar to our range of rack mountable field termination boxes they offer not only the possibility of a “plug and play” approach but also simplify the process of on-site installation and maintenance. They are particularly useful in installations where depth is an issue as the SMPTE cable can be brought away from the rear of the panel then terminated elsewhere in a safe and secure manner. SENKO FIBRE CONNECTOR CLEANERS Smart series SENKO Smart Cleaners have been specifically designed to allow cleaning of fibre connections that reside in a bulkheads, adapters or faceplates without the need to remove the connector. Simply pushing the cleaner into the bulkhead, adapter or faceplate until the unit ‘clicks’ will clean the face with a ‘twist and wipe’ motion. Both re-usable and disposable alternatives are offered. The re-usable cleaner allows more than 750 cleanings per cartridge and, once spent, the cartridge can then be replaced. Replacement cartridges are offered in packs of three; 50-1503 for LC, MU or 50-1505 for SC, FC,ST, E-2000. The range will be fitted with Neutrik NO2-4DW-1A SMPTE DUO connectors and blue singlemode flanges.The electrical contacts on the connectors will be terminated to 6 pin Mate-N-Lok male panel connectors which in turn terminates to a the female bulkhead connector fitted within the enclosure. A 24 way splice tray and 2 cable management spools are also provided within the case. During installation the SMPTE 311M cable is brought into the enclosure and the electrical conductors are fitted with the supplied crimp contacts before being inserted into the female Mate-NLok bulkhead connector.The fibre cores are routed via the cable management spools to the splice tray and spliced to the provided LC patch cords before connecting to the rear of the DUO connector.The enclosure will come supplied with all of the required components to facilitate easy installation.
CANFORD FIBRE FIELD TERMINATION RACKMOUNT CASE Designed to facilitate a fast, easy and effective solution for installing hybrid fibre connectors on site and eliminates the need for pre-terminated cable assemblies. The boxes come complete with up to 8 x Lemo 3K.93C EDW or FMW cable assemblies pre-fitted in either a flat or angled 2U front panel. The SMPTE cable enters the chassis via rear cable glands and the strain relief is secured to the clamping post. The electrical cables are then terminated directly to the AMP connector provided on the internal bulkhead. The fibre cables terminate directly to the SC coupler on the same bulkhead using SENKO XP Fit Plus connectors or alternatively via SC tails which are spliced to the incoming fibre using the internal splice tray. This system not only provides improved protection to both the electrical and fibre connections which are secured within the case but also allows for quick and easy replacement/repair of any failed SMPTE connectors.

Standard types have connectors fitted directly into the panel so are nominally insulated from the panel by the powder coating, but they cannot be classed as either insulated or earthed. The fully-earthed types have an exposed metal area on the rear of the panel under each star washer and mounting nut, giving a guaranteed earth connection between each connector and the panel. CANFORD PLASTIC CABLE TRAY These slot-punched, plastic, cable trays provide a very economical and completely non-corrodible system for cable installations, the system being designed to reduce labour costs on site to a minimum. The tray can be cut with an ordinary saw, holes can be drilled with ordinary hand drills, and no sharp edges are left after cutting. They are manufactured from rigid, unplasticised black PVC, self-extinguishing and non-flammable for all practical purposes. Other lengths and colours are available to special order, subject to a minimum of 500 metres per size/colour.

CAT5E-F-J CATEGORY 5E DATA CABLE Stranded conductor, screened - Multi-circuit, studio and touring grades Multi-circuit deployable Cat5E cables, for both studio and touring/OB applications, based on Canford’s CAT5E-F screened flexible cable. The ‘Touring’ version uses the standard CAT5E-F 6.2mm diameter flexible cable, with colour coded and numbered individual jackets. The overall jacket has a tough layer of PUR (polyurethane) for abrasion resistance. Canford uses PUR on many cable designs to provide excellent wearing characteristics in the harsher environment of outside broadcast and touring applications. The ‘Studio’ version has a design optimised to give the best possible flexibility, and uses the CAT5E-F-M 5.8mm diameter cable, with silver coloured and numbered jackets. The overall jacket is soft PVC for optimum flexibility. It is suitable for use with both standard RJ45 connectors (round entry version), the Neutrik etherCON and most other ruggedised RJ45 designs, or any other connector with a suitably sized entry gland.

Basic Category 5E F/UTP is a relatively inflexible installation cable, and even the slightly more flexible patchcord type still has very poor handling characteristics. This Category 5E cable has been designed specifically for the professional audio and video user, and is intended to handle like a typical microphone cable. It has an extra-flexible four-pair core structure, that maintains Category 5E performance, a foil screen, then a special soft PVC composite material outer jacket, to give superb flexibility and handling characteristics. Code Description It is available in a variety of colours, plus a special “metallic silver” (nonconducting!) version specifically for “high tech” in-vision applications. Because of the reduced jacket wall thickness, this cable is not recommended for deployable applications.

This D’n’A series (Digital and Analogue) cable is designed to be suitable for both digital and analogue audio signals, with an impedance of 100 ohms which has been proven to be suitable for AES/EBU digital audio as well as analogue microphone and line level signals. Wire insulation is polypropylene, which shrinks back minimally during soldering (considerably less than PVC or polyethylene).
Wiring specifications for many public buildings now call for LFH cables to be used in certain areas, notably in corridors etc. Under combustion circumstances, LFH cables have a significantly reduced smoke emission, and the gaseous products contain no toxic halogens. FST-LFH is technically identical to standard FST, except that the PVC jacket is replaced by an LFH material.

An internal locking mechanism which locks in an IEC power inlet, provide a simple way of securing a power cable to any electrical equipment fitted with a standard IEC connector. They are invaluable for use with critical equipment, either free-standing or rack-mounted and in areas subject to vibration, such as outside broadcast vehicles, touring and ‘fly-away’ kit, where standard connectors may become dislodged in transit.
The internal locking mechanism grips the equipment earth pin preventing accidental removal of the plug. The latch is released by an external sliding handle, which can be gripped from all sides and is pulled to release the connector from its socket. This design of the release mechanism is particularly suitable for equipment with extremely closely spaced IEC outlets, such as 1U rackmount mains distributions units with 14 or 15 outlets, and some Dell and HP servers. No separate release tool is required.
