SPORT AT C ANFORD
“There is scope to take your sport as far as you want to ... the coaching is of an incredibly high standard.”
At Canford we firmly believe that sport should be enjoyed by all pupils, regardless of ability. We offer over thirty different sports and activities, allowing each to develop their individual sporting skills and interests and encourage them to reach their full potential whatever their level. For those who want to develop their sport into a future career, we have the support and expertise to help pupils achieve their goals. We teach the AQA PE A Level course, and have excellent links with sports colleges and universities across the country. At the highest levels, we have extensive experience preparing pupils for county, regional and national success. Our top sportsmen and women follow a specialist programme of coaching and conditioning and benefit from our inspirational lecture programme with visits from elite performers, coaches and sports psychologists. Our pre-season training schedules and tours mean that pupils have the chance to play their chosen sport in a variety of different locations, both in this country and further afield – excellent experience which adds another dimension to training sessions and fixtures. Sport not only develops fitness, skill and co-ordination but also provides valuable broader lessons such as teamwork, leadership, determination and the drive to succeed. With such a varied offering, we aim to give every pupil the chance to both develop their sporting ability and to learn these important life skills within the Canford Sport programme.

PUPIL PROFILE I am really proud of what I have achieved at Canford, reaching 1st team level for rugby, hockey and cricket. There is scope to take your sport as far as you want to go, and as captain of cricket, scoring 129 not out against the MCC and a century against Millfield were definite highlights for me. The coaching here is first class and I have learnt a lot, not just about the sports themselves but also about sportsmanship.
FELIX AMBROSE SPORTS SCHOLAR
Coaches are very aware of academic demands and I have organised my sport around my work. Over the years I have learnt to balance and make use of all my available time. I am sure that’s a skill that will stand me in good stead.
