LEADERSHIP SOCIET Y

In the Jesuit tradition of St. Ignatius Loyola, Canisius College calls students to “Go forth and set the world on fire.” The undergraduate, graduate and professional programs at Canisius are distinguished by learning experiences that transform the mind and spirit, and engage students in the classroom and beyond. Our Jesuit tradition fosters a commitment to excellence, service and leadership in a global society. Leadership Society gifts make this inspiring education possible. By making a Canisius education possible, you ignite a fire in each of our students to make a true difference in the world.

Light the way Did you know nearly all (98 percent) of our student body receives some form of financial aid? Your Leadership Society membership provides essential funding for tuition assistance and scholarships, making the dream of a Canisius education a financial reality for many deserving students.

Fuel the future With nearly 150 years of excellence as a hallmark, it’s no surprise Canisius offers some of the best programs in the state, country and world. Your Leadership Society membership provides essential funding to ensure this tradition continues – not only for the glory of the college but for the benefit of students today and tomorrow.

Ignite the passion Each year, thousands of Canisius students serve others through participation in service projects and immersion trips, making an impact in the local and international communities. Your Leadership Society membership provides essential funding for programs that strengthen our Jesuit mission to help students become men and women for others.

In the words of Dante Alighieri, “A mighty flame followeth a tiny spark.” You’ll be amazed by the impact your generosity can have, as one by one, Canisius graduates “go forth and set the world on fire.” Leadership Society gifts come together to shape the college and support our students in monumental ways. Please make your 2015-16 Leadership Society gift today by using the enclosed form or online at canisius.edu/spark. This year’s annual campaign runs until May 31, 2016.

LIGHT THE WAY { The financial aid I received made my attending

Canisius financially possible. I wanted to attend Canisius because of the hands-on learning experiences in my field of study, which are not often available to undergraduate students at other schools. Having always wanted to get involved in autism research, I am fulfilling this goal at a relatively young age through my work with the Institute for Autism Research on campus. The experience is preparing me for my career goals and strengthening my passion to help children who have developmental and neurological disorders.

{ To compete in and then win the CFA [Chartered

Financial Analyst] Institute Research Challenge against 4,000 students from 70 countries was just surreal. The experience not only set me and my teammates apart for future professional pursuits, it taught us the importance of being the most prepared, and even moreso, working as a team. We worked together toward something greater than our individual selves, and in the end this gave us the winning edge.

{ Traveling to Nicaragua and Costa Rica to participate

in the Pre-Med Center’s medical mission trip pushed me out of my comfort zone in many ways, and ultimately allowed me to grow and become a more patient and compassionate person. Although I could have completed a physician assistant program in five years at another institution, I would never have changed the experience I had at Canisius. I not only grew academically in my studies but learned more about the world around me and what I can do about the injustices that still remain in it. EMILY KOWALSKI ’15
