here are two styles of kitchen furniture on offer at The White Kitchen Company: Simple Shaker and Period English. Both styles are available in two different finishes: pure white undercoat, ready to be painted in your chosen colour or natural lacquered oak.
Simple Shaker is defined by plain panelled doors (no beading or edge detail) and flat fronted top drawers

Period English is a traditional English countryhouse inspired design. Defined by a classic thumb mould around the panelled doors and drawer fronts and a bead running the length of the top and bottom edges of the top drawers.

STEP 2 - MEASURE YOUR SPACE Using an A4 size sheet of paper (graph paper is easier than plain) draw the shape of your room. It’s probably square, oblong or L shaped. Start at a convenient corner and measure to the first feature; it might be a door or window or something else. Write the measurement on the drawing in millimetres. Then measure the width of this feature. If it’s a door, include the architrave, a cupboard should only go up to and not over the architrave.
Example Plan
On the paper that you’re drawing on, i.e. your plan, draw doors as open and windows as closed, per our example plan. If a window is lower than 900mm from the floor you need to note this, as standard height cupboards won’t fit under these windows.
Note where all relevant features are, such as light switches, electric sockets and beams that come down from the ceiling low enough to touch your kitchen cabinets. When you have gone all the way around the room and come back to where you started, take several overall wall to wall measurements. This will help to highlight any errors or miss-measurements. Don’t worry if the measurements don’t exactly add up as they are bound to be a few millimetres out. Lastly, measure floor to ceiling in at least 3 different places and use the shortest measurement as your ceiling height.
Dimensions of our cabinets: Base cupboards are 870mm from floor to top of cabinet excluding worktop, Depth normally 580mm, top drawer height 150mm 2nd drawer 220mm 3rd/bottom drawer 260mm. Simple cupboard door height is 690mm drawer and door cupboards doors are 510mm high. Tall cupboards are 2200mm high including feet. Wall cupboards are 850mm high. Skirting is supplied 140mm wide but is designed to be 120mm high the cornice sits on top of the cabinets and is 60mm high.

STEP 3 - DESIGN YOUR KITCHEN THIS IS THE PART WHERE YOU GET TO BE CREATIVE
First position the sink. This may be where it is already, with the plumbing already there, or possibly under a window looking over the garden. It’s up to you. The dishwasher, usually goes next to the sink as it makes the plumbing easier. Now position the fridge followed by the hob and built in oven or range cooker.

After all of your appliances are placed, simply fill in the gaps with cabinets. Please note that you may have to shuffle things around a bit to make them fit. Next, design your island if you have enough space and want one. You should allow at least 800 mm between it and other objects in the kitchen. We recommend that you allow for 1200 mm if you can. Lastly, decide on your wall cupboards.
TOP TIPS
Always allow 30 mm against a wall before a cabinet and purchase a scribe piece to fill the gap. Purchase a scribe where a cupboard touches a wall; for base cupboards you also need a scribe to go between the side of the cupboard and the wall. If you can see the side of a cupboard you don’t need this for wall cupboards unless your walls are very wobbly. Setting cupboards forward or back from each other creates an attractive stepped out (or breakfront) feature.

Our cupboards are from 300mm to 1000mm wide in 100mm increments. Dishwashers are 600mm or 450mm wide other integrated appliances are 660mm wide. Exceptions are: Tray cupboards 130mm wide, open tray/tea towel cupboard 200mm wide, wine racks 160mm or 360mm wide, bin is 470mm wide and double farmhouse sink cupboard 860mm wide. The curved cupboard is 330 mm wide, curved corner cupboard 500 mm + 530 mm = 1030 mm x 1030 mm but it takes up 1100 mm if you keep it in line with the rest of the cupboards.

STEP 4 - ORDER YOUR KITCHEN CABINETS
Using your kitchen design plan to choose the cabinets you want from our online shop. Don’t forget to add accessories like cornice and skirting. Our online shop: www.thewhitekitchencompany.com
Add your cabinets and accessories to your online shopping cart and pay for them. Once delivered, your tradesman or whoever is fitting your kitchen, can paint your white cabinets in the colour of your choice.
Experience shows that you may find it helpful to begin ordering your hand made cabinets in this order: Start with a run of base cabinets and continue around the walls in a clockwise direction. Repeat the process with the island, then list the wall cupboards. Lastly, add the cornice and skirting boards including any curved cornice or skirting that you need.
Of course, if you order cabinets from our lacquered oak range, no painting is required. Electrical appliances can be sourced online at extremely competitive prices and delivered to your home. Once your cabinets are fitted your local worktop specialist will supply and install your chosen worktops.
STEP 5 - ENJOY YOUR BEAUTIFUL NEW KITCHEN
Invite your family and friends over so that they can marvel at your wonderful new hand made kitchen. And, the best part is, you can honestly tell them all that it was designed by you!

FITTING YOUR KITCHEN
For most people this will be a job for an experienced kitchen fitter, but if you are proficient with woodworking and have a few basic tools, then it isn’t that hard!
1) Fix a 2� x 1� planed batten to the wall level with the top edge 870from the floor. This is to fix all your base cabinets to so a little care getting this right will make the task of levelling all your base cabinets much easier. 2) The cabinets arrive fully assembled so all your need to do next is fit the adjustable which are push fit.
8) Your wall cupboards are hung on the wall using the brackets provided, once hung and made level we suggest a couple of extra wall fixings for added security. 9) Your cornice should be mitred on the corners but where you have a long run we usually butt join it in line with the join between 2 cupboards the same applies for the join between a curved section of cornice and a straight piece, easing the edges of these joints to match the edges of the frames looks best.

TOP TIPS 1) Where a cabinet touches a wall we suggest a scribe piece to shape to the wall, allow a gap of approximately 30mm for this(they are supplied 55mm wide to allow for scribing) 2) If you are not utilising the “lost corner� you will need a corner piece to offset the cabinets by 30mm. By doing this you will avoid the drawer handles nocking into each other. 3) It is a lot easier to fit a dishwasher between two cabinets, if it has to come on the end of a run you will have to use an end panel and fix it in place using corner brackets and possibly glue it to the floor, once the worktop is on it will be secure.

4) Get all the base cabinets fitted first and any others that affect the worktop then the worktop templaters can template and while the tops are being manufactured the rest of the kitchen cabinets can be fitted. 5) Make sure your appliances, sinks and taps are on site prior to the worktop being templated.
HOW WE MAKE CABINETS FOR YOU
T
he doors, frames and drawer fronts are made from solid hardwood, oak if they are lacquered or Alder if they are to be painted. We like Alder because it has a smooth surface ideal for painting and is readily available and sustainable. Our drawers are made from solid oak and dovetailed together. They sit on exceptionally strong and smooth drawer runners designed to give years of trouble free service.
Our carcasses are made from laminated solid timber with a facing of oak which is lacquered internally and finished with undercoat or lacquer on the outside. This results in an extremely stable and hardwearing cabinet which has the warm glow of oak inside. All the shelves are adjustable. Your cabinets will either come with two coats of white primer undercoat ready to paint whatever colour you choose or they will be oak, lacquered in a clear satin finish which is designed to protect and enhance the natural beauty of the timber. Doors are hung on traditional butt hinges and have small and discreet but very strong magnetic catches.
