Beechmont Road Repairs Continue Transport and Main Roads has completed repairs to 22 of the 23 landslips on Beechmont Road following damage after Tropical Cyclone Debbie in March 2017. The one remaining site, the largest of the 23 landslips, located between Mirani Street and Tarlington Road, is still under repair. TMR said difficult ground conditions at that landslip site have delayed the completion of these works. The project’s engineers and onsite team have been working hard to successfully install 21 anchors through the new pile wall and into hard rock. The anchors are 21 metres long and extend at an angle 15 metres into the earth

under the road and a further six metres into rock. This process anchors the pile wall in the opposite direction to the landslip. With the ground conditions proving difficult, the anchors have had to be drilled and re-drilled until the required seal is achieved. Based on the current schedule, the final landslip repair is now expected to be completed in February 2019. The project’s work hours are 6am to 6pm Monday to Saturday. The project closed for the Festive Season at 6pm on Friday 21st December and will return for 2019 at 6am on Monday 7th January.

The site was tidied as much as possible before the holiday break, however the construction zone remained in place with mobile traffic signals directing traffic one way past the work area. Due to the delay with completing this final landslip repair, the project’s site facilities in Bottletree Lane will remain in place until all repairs are complete in 2019. TMR advised that the project apologises for this unavoidable delay – this is the unpredictable nature of landslip repair works. TMR wished to thank the local community for their patience and understanding during these important restoration works.

Tamborine Mountain Unwraps Christmas Gifts A new play space inspired by Tamborine Mountain’s natural environment has opened just in time for Christmas. Scenic Rim Regional Council Acting Mayor Rick Stanfield, joined Tamborine Mountain Lions Club Past President Tony Hall in opening Lions Park at 99-113 Curtis Rd, Tamborine Mountain on Thursday 20th December. Features of the park include carved timber butterfly totem poles, a dry creek bed, scramble net, tri-tramp net, an embankment slide, a fallen tree and an inclusive swing seat which promotes truly accessible play. Cr Stanfield said the playground embodied the nature surrounding the area and allowed a commemorative space to recognise the centenary of the foundation of Lions International. “The Lions Club have worked for more than three years to make this park a reality,” he said. “We thank them for their efforts in creating the fallen tree which allows our children to climb and enhance sensory education through play.” The park is a team effort between Scenic Rim Regional Council and the Lions Club

Christmas in Canungra St Luke’s Anglican Church’s Christmas Carols by Torchlight, held on 19th December was popular with locals. Traditional carols were led by Church members and the grounds were filled with families enjoying the night. It is hoped that next year an event can be held to incorporate the Church and more of the wider community, utilising the Church grounds and neighbouring D J Smith Park. Many local families celebrated Christmas at home and some escaped to the nearby camping grounds, with Sharp Park on Beechmont Road a favourite.

Happy New Year!

We hope everyone had a relaxing time off over the festive season and are ready to make 2019 a good one! We know how much of a financial burden this time of year can be on families; not only do we tend to spend (a lot) more at Christmas, the kids are home wanting entertainment, there are family holidays to factor in, the extra burden of back to school supplies & school uniforms, the start of the next sporting season to think about…way too many other expenses to list them all! We would love to help you make your life that little bit more stress-free. If you need guidance or just the motivation to set up a savings plan, come on in to the branch and ask us how we can help you. We have a range of products that won’t cost you a thing but can help you achieve your savings goals. What we love more than anything, is to know that our local community are being looked after properly. While motivation to start the year positively is here, it’s also time to start thinking about how we can help the local community. While we do have the ability to help not-for-profit organisations financially, we also have

Huebner Toyota began in 1973 on the banks of the Brisbane River, South Brisbane and traded on this site until the Queensland Government resumed the land to create Expo 88 and later the Southbank we know today. Klaus Huebner moved to Beaudesert Toyota in 1978 and quickly set about creating a new showroom and workshop employing local staff on the site we now know as Coles Beaudesert. After the closure of Beaudesert’s Holden in 1983 GMH and Klaus Huebner teamed up to bring Holden back to the Scenic Rim. In 1985 Klaus constructed a new showroom and workshop right next door to Toyota. It was at this time that Neil Dagan joined the Holden team, 26 years later and Neil is still a part of the Page 10

team as the Toyota Parts manager. Huebner Toyota moved to it’s current location, 189 Brisbane Street in 1986. It was at this time that Beaudesert Holden moved next door into 191 Brisbane Street and was sold on a couple of years later. It was then moved and 191 Brisbane Street became home to the St Vincent De Paul Society. Mark bought Huebner Toyota from his father Klaus in 1988. It was in December 2002 that Mark acquired Beaudesert Mazda and became a second franchise. Now Huebner Motors employs 36 staff and services the Scenic Rim, Logan and Gold Coast areas selling over 900 vehicles per year.

The Canungra Times - January 2019

Over the past 40 years Huebner Motors has supported many local sporting teams some of which include the Beaudesert Soccer Club, Beaudesert Golf Club, Jimboomba Juniors Soccer Team, Tamborine Golf Club, South East Queensland Polo Club and Little Athletics. The team have also worked with the Royal Children’s Hospital, the Cancer Council and Turning Canungra Pink to raise vital funds. Huebner Motors also supports the Boonah, Beaudesert and Canungra Show Societies and the Scenic Rim’s Eat Local Week. It is with great excitement that Huebner Motors embarks on its next chapter and welcomes Isuzu Ute to the family. From 19th November Isuzu Ute will trade from 191 Brisbane Street after the block was purchased back recently from the St Vincent De Paul Society.

We would also love to take this opportunity to thank past and current employees as well as some of our longest standing employees, Robert Davis (17yrs), Matthew Glover (12yrs), Brad Bullock (11yrs), Mark Casteleijn (10yrs) and Juanita Hoffschildt (9yrs). It is through their hard work Huebner Motors is what it is today. Moving forward 2019 will be one of the biggest years yet for the Huebner Motors family and we look forward to bringing you all along for the ride. Are You Drinking Enough Water? Dr David Christensen, Canungra Valley Medical As we face another hot summer, elderly people and the young can be at risk of becoming dehydrated because their brains underestimate how much water they need to drink to rehydrate. Adults should drink about eight glasses of water per day to prevent dehydration, and physically active people may need to drink more. Dehydration occurs when the body does not have enough water and this can happen rapidly in extreme heat or though exercise. Symptoms of dehydration can include: Not peeing or having very dark yellow pee; Very dry skin; feeling dizzy; rapid heartbeat; sunken eyes; sleepiness; lack of energy, confusion or irritability; fainting headaches. Even though we recommend to exercise please do this in moderation on extreme hot days. 1. Sip small amounts of water 2. Drink Carbohydrates/electrolytes contain drinks 3. Suck on popsicles made from justices and sports drinks (great for Children) 4. Suck on ice chips 5. Sip though a straw (works well for someone who has had jaw surgery or mouth sores)’ Exercising is fundamental to a healthy lifestyle because it helps maintain a healthy weight, keeps bones and muscles strong and maintains heart health. The types of exercise most suitable varies at different stages, for example osteoarthritis, heart disease, pregnancy, and obesity. Best to exercise early morning or late in the evenings. Beat the heat and dehydration this summer and enjoy.

Free Mobile Breastscreen Helps Women Stay Up-To-Date Breast screening saves lives by finding breast cancer early when it is easier to treat. BreastScreen Queensland’s mobile will return to North Tamborine from 7th to 24th January 2019 and it is hoped women will be encouraged to stay up-to-date with this important health check and book in now for this service. A recent report by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare noted that women who have breast cancers detected through the national breast screening program have a significantly reduced risk of dying from breast cancer compared to women who have never participated in screening through BreastScreen Australia. Screen-detected breast cancers are much more likely to be small when diagnosed (15mm in size or less) compared to breast cancers found in never-screened women. Screening mammography is strongly recommended for women 50 to 74 years, and women in their 40s and 75 and older are also welcome to attend free screening. To find your nearest BreastScreen Queensland service, or to make an appointment, visit breastscreen.qld.gov.au or phone 132 050.

The 4 Biggest Mistakes You Can Make After A Muscle Tear

If you have ever had a muscle tear, you know that it can be surprisingly painful. In the period following a muscle tear, there are a few mistakes commonly made, worsening your injury and delaying healing. 1. Stretching: After a muscle tear, your damaged fibres slowly begin to heal and reattach to each other. This process can be quite fragile and during the early stages, aggressive stretching of recovering tissue can impair healing and lead to more tearing. While gentle stretching a few days after the injury can have a positive effect, you should check with your physiotherapist as to how to stretch safely to prevent further tearing. 2. Applying H.A.R.M.: Most of us are aware of R.I.C.E (Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate) as the recommended treatment in the early stages of an acute injury. However, H.A.R.M is less well known and is used to remember the things you shouldn’t do after an injury. This stands for Heat, Alcohol, Running and Massage, each of which can contribute to further damage in the first 72 hours. 3. Failing to see a physiotherapist: The accurate diagnosis of a muscle tear and

the degree of tear is very important. You may have injured your ligaments or fascia at the same time and some conditions can mimic a muscle tear. It is possible that you could have an underlying weakness or pathology, which your physio will be able to diagnose. 4. Returning to sport too early: Torn muscle fibres become less painful over time but may not be completely healed. Many people suffer further tearing simply because they return to sport too early.

The Canungra Times - January 2019

While you may feel as though your body is back to full strength, the torn muscle fibres may still be healing and vulnerable. It is important to test your injury gradually, starting with gentle exercise and slowly building up to higher-intensity activities. Your physio is able to guide you with a full rehabilitation program. This can help to restore strength, flexibility and control to your damaged muscle, keeping you injury free for the future.

From My Window

with Keer Moriarty, Editor

Be Grateful... In December I headed to Bali for the first time, and I have to admit, it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. It was much more. I’d heard all the stories about what a great party place it is, beautiful beaches and fantastic surf, but for me, Bali was a very different experience to what many Australians talk about upon their return. We stayed in a beautiful Villa in Seminyak and enjoyed a lot of the touristy things - but the gentle spirit of the Balinese people was what stuck with me. Life for the Balinese people is hard. As one taxi driver said, “In Australia, you no work, you still eat. In Bali, no work, no eat.” We visited a primary school where the children were making a concrete wall for a garden; a Balinese home in a village and talked to our driver who said when he isn’t driving he works in the rice fields for the equivalent of $10 Australian dollars a day. At the start of every day, and before he went to bed, our driver said he prays in the family temple at his house. What does he pray for? He thanks the gods for everything he is grateful for. These people, who have very little compared to Australia are grateful for so much. It reflects in their calm natures, their smiles and their attitude to everything around them. Every day, as often as you can, be grateful.

Road Work on LNP Road

Restoration works on Lamington National Park Road commenced in February 2018, with Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) contractor McIlwain Civil Engineering (MCE) working on both day and night shifts to repair over 80 landslip sites that occurred as a result of Severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie in March 2017. A significant number of sites required robust geotechnical engineered treatments such as gabion rock baskets and pile walls. MCE has been working on these critical sites since February 2018. Works are progressing well, with all but two of these critical sites completed. In early November, MCE successfully completed the final night shift operating under a full road closure. No further road closures are planned for Stage Two works. Some intermittent night works may continue under the guidance of traffic controllers. Stage Three works will require a night closure between 13th - 27th January (see below). NDRRA restoration works are expected to be completed by late 2018, weather permitting, as committed. Eligible reconstruction works will be jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).

Road Limit

In addition to the reconstruction work under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), TMR undertook a road safety audit on Lamington National Park Road to review the condition of the road to relax the current six-tonne weight restriction. The audit recommends works at additional sites, outside of the NDRRA works and not related to the 2017 weather event. This work commenced in November 2018 as Stage Three works. Stage Three works comprise of line-marking, delineation, traffic signals and rehabilitation of multiple existing stone walls. These works will continue during the day from 6am to 6pm, under traffic control, through to February 2019. Night works will be carried out from 13th January to 27th January from 9pm and 6am Sunday to Thursday and will require a full road closure. Works that generate an increase in noise, dust or vibration will be mitigated where possible to minimise disruptions to local businesses and residents. Work crews demobilised from site on 24th December and will return to work on 7th January. During this shutdown period, crew members will intermittently visit the site to ensure road conditions remain safe for motorists. For more information visit www.QLDtraffic.qld.gov.au.

Celebrating

A piece of Scotland will come to Canungra on 25th January 2019 when the Canungra School of Arts Hall hosts the Burns Night to celebrate the life of Scottish poet, Robert Burns. The first Burns supper was held in 1801 and in over 200 years since new traditions have been added but the sentiment remains the same - to pay tribute to Scotland’s national poet. Bren and George Dalby have been running the Burns Nights on the Gold Coast and in Canungra for many years and for the past three years they have been part of a fundraiser for Turning Canungra Pink, to raise funds for cancer. Burns Nights are normally held on or around 25th January, the date of Robert Burns’ birthday. Canungra’s Burns Night includes many of the traditional elements of a Burns Night, inlcuding music by Scotch on the Rocks with traditional dancing that anyone can join in. There is also recitation of Robert Burns poems including the famous Address to the Haggis, bagpipes, and a three course meal with bar available.

Canungra Ambulance

Canungra’s History - QATB - The Early Years By Joyce Libke When the Lahey sawmill was opened way out in the bush in 1884, they employed Mr Tyson to carry out ambulance duties, with the help of volunteers. His depot was a small building near where the double gates into D J Smith Memorial Park stand today. Their only means of transport of get patients to the doctor and hospital in Beaudesert 16 miles (26 kilometres) away, was a hund pulled litter on wheels. One maternity patient owed her life to the dedication of the ambulance team that pushed and pulled that litter through six creek crossings and up hill and down dale. Another occasion that was well remembered was the day the ambulance team did two runs to Beaudesert. Later they had a horse drawn carriage. With the area slowly becoming settled there were midwives Kate Stringfellow and Mrs Knight who rode their horses to the homesteads when needed. In preparation for the changing of Canungra from a company town with the sale of house blocks in May 1916, in 1915 Laheys employed Matt Braiden. Laheys built a two story house at 13 - 15 Appel Street to house both the new motor ambulance and the new ambulance officer. Matt Braiden became a stalwart of the town. He kept meticulous Page 28

details of all cases dealt with. The most effective antiseptic of the period was Lysol no germ would dare stay around. Also in the case book was a scrap of paper, actually its front was a brochure asking for donations from the public to help pay off the Canungra Sports and Recreation Grounds being bought form Laheys in 1918 by the community and it was signed by Matt as the Secretary of that Committee. As time went on and communications and

roads improved, in 1929 the Canungra Ambulance was transferred to Beaudesert. There will be few people left today who remember the days of an annual visit from the Superintendent of Beaudesert QATB who collected a subscription from the family in case you had need of their services. In those days you would only have given the name of the patient and the men would know where to go - probably even the paddock the patient was in!

Council Comment By Cr Virginia West Scenic Rim Regional Council

HAPPY NEW YEAR I wish you all a very happy, healthy and productive year ahead and hope the festive break has been relaxing and rejuvenating for you all. Scenic Rim has a very bright future for us all and I look forward to working together to achieve this vision in 2019. Thank you to all our Canungra community groups and organisations who have worked so hard last year to make our community such a vibrant and caring place to live. Special thanks to Keer for her dedication and hard work in always ensuring the Canungra Times is available every month to update the community on all that is happening. Sadly a number of small community newspaper publications within the Scenic Rim have closed at the end of 2018 presenting communication challenges to those communities.

BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2019 If you are a local business operator don’t forget to consider nominating for the new-look Business Excellence Awards in March 2019. There are six categories including Trainee/Apprentice of the Year. Nomination forms can be found on Council’s website www.scenicrimbusinessawards.com.au and are due by 18th February 2019.

ANOTHER TWO NEW BRIDGES COMPLETE Yet another significant milestone has been achieved in the recovery following Severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie with Haack and Steinhardt bridges at Darlington now complete. Both bridges have been funded by the Commonwealth and State Governments through the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements. The new Jerome Bridge and Bennett Crossing are progressing well and weather permitting are due for completion before June.

OPENING OF LIONS PARK PLAYGROUND Just before Christmas the fabulous Lions Park Playground was opened on Tamborine Mountain, a nature based playground initiated by the Tamborine Mountain Lions Club and funded as a joint project with their grant from the State Government and Scenic Rim Council funding. This is a project to be proud of and the children who attended the opening had such a great time extending their skills. Tamborine Lions Club you are to be congratulated for this community project.

Turning Canungra Pink was started by a local resident in 2011, herself a Breast Cancer Survivor. Since then it has become a month long event, decorating the town in pink for awareness and raising money throughout businesses and community events all run by volunteers. Its a great effort for a small town! Funds raised are then donated both to Cancer Council Queensland and to “PINK ASSIST” which is a fund created by The Canungra Chamber of Commerce and used to provide support directly to our local families dealing with ongoing Cancer treatment (chemotherapy or radiation). PINK ASSIST offers vouchers to assist local patients with purchases such as pharmaceuticals, fuel, house cleaning, lawn mowing, basic mechanical expenses plus some other individual needs that may arise whilst undergoing treatment including hospital parking fees. Contact one of your local committee members to see if you or someone you know might be eligible for this assistance.

I thought I had done all I could and given all my love to ensure my home was a happy one, but somehow I ended up at the pound. Bewildered. Afraid. Dirty and unwell. My life has not been all rainbows and sunshine. I remember once being hit by a car and thinking my days were numbered, but I found myself another home and started a new chapter and now I have to do that again. Please humans look at me and see the beauty under this old coat, my toothless grin and my faded, cloudy eyes. I was once beautiful and adored, called pet names and fussed over. Now I find that I can’t even get your attention. Please don’t turn away and pretend you don’t see me. I’m here. I’m asking you for help. I need a human to see the real me and love me for the rest of my days. I know I can make you happy, please give me a chance. I may be senior but I still remember how to make my humans feel special and loved. Do you think you might be able to love me in return and offer me a safe indoor life? Please look closer and see me’ Elise is desexed, vaccinated and vet checked. Please call AWLQ on 5509 9000 to arrange a meeting or search Animal Welfare League Queensland website to see all our animals which are available for adoption. Sirius - 45947. Male, black and white, Greyhound. Three years of age. Cost: 315. Sirius is an easy going boy, much like your typical greyhound, and not a lot phases him. He laps up the attention but is fine on his own. He gets along with other dogs, but isn’t overly interested in playing. If you are looking for a low maintenance pooch, then Sirius is the hound for you. Sirius is desexed, vaccinated and vet checked. Please call AWLQ on 55099000 to arrange a meeting or search Animal Welfare League Queensland website to see all our animals which are available for adoption.

Nature’s Gems

Olive-backed Sunbird (Nectarinia jugularis) By Melissa Whitby One of the most memorable bird experiences that I hear people talk about who have travelled to North Queensland, is their encounter with the Olive-backed Sunbird. This small bird is sometimes mistaken as a hummingbird by people who are not aware that they are actually a Sunbird and the only one of their kind found in Australia. Both male and female birds have stunning plumage. Male birds have a curved beak, sapphire-coloured breast and throat and bright yellow underparts. The female has similar colouring and shape to the male bird but lacks the sapphire coloured ‘bib’. These small birds are incredibly bold and have adjusted to using many man-made habitats such as gardens, orchards, city streets and rural settings. Their preferred natural habitats include rainforest edges, mangroves and coastal scrubs. The range of the Olive-backed Sunbird extends along coastal areas from the tip of Cape York through to Rockhampton and Normanton. Some sightings of Olive-backed Sunbird have been recorded further south in Queensland and into New South Wales. Usually, these small birds are seen singly or in pairs and are incredibly busy and quick when foraging for food around foliage. People are most likely to see this bird when it comes time for them to make their nest. The nest is a beautifully intricate with a hooded side entrance that can be suspended off branches or man-made materials hanging under house or shed awnings. Throughout their range, the Olive-backed Sunbird is common and relatively easy to see due to ability to utilise man-made environments. I never cease to be mesmerised by these energetic, colourful birds and a visit to North Queensland will surely see you cross the path of this beautiful bird.

Helping Animals Survive Summer

Perfect Packaging: Brush Cassia, Cassia marksiana, and its seed pod By Susan Cully This summer has provided just the right conditions for a blooming bonanza for this beautiful tree, Brush Cassia, Cassia marksiana. Many individual trees along the road have revealed their position by producing a profusion of flowers glowing in the afternoon sun. The golden-yellow summer flowers are fragrant and hang in large clusters from fresh, lime-green foliage. The flowers in turn produce a 30cm long brown seed pod. This pod, pictured above, comes with two ‘zippers’ on each side that curl back to open both halves of the pod. Inside the pod are neat little compartments containing a little lentil-sized seed that is protected inside a little round cardboardlike box that fits perfectly into its compartment. The box dissolves in water to allow germination. The pods are often heavily predated but the compartment system seems to ensure a few seed are viable in each pod. Found growing from the Brunswick River in NNSW to Beenleigh in SEQ the Brush Cassia may grow to 25 meters on its preferred sites in fertile soil at the edge of rainforest or in regrowth vegetation along farmland. It seems to thrive on roadsides where it is sheltered on one side and exposed to sunshine on the other. This tree is listed as endangered in NSW and special programs are partnering with the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney to ensure its survival. In Queensland it is listed as vulnerable. They are plentiful in Beechmont and Tamborine where protected in reserves.

Companion animals and wildlife can easily become heat stressed during summer, but these simple tips can help to keep cooler and, importantly, survive the heat. 1. Be water wise - Always ensure animals have Dogs have been known to upend the water dish to try cool down, so you may also need to top it up regularly (or make it easy on yourself and buy a shell pool!). Leave water out for thirsty wildlife. Remember to put the cover on the pool when you’re not using it. Hot animals trying can drown in pools so taking away that access can save lives. 2. Never leave an amimal in the car - Not even for 30 seconds. Even on cloudy days, the temperature inside the car will increase very quickly. Dogs in particular are at severe risk of heat exhaustion and death in this situation, so it’s never worth the risk. For what it is worth, the same goes for children. 3. Watch out for snakes! - Unlike some animals, snakes can thrive in hot weather, so if you’re walking your dog through bushland, be careful to avoid snakes and make sure you know what to do if one of them manages to nip your pet. 4. Provide a safe haven - Summer is well and truly party season! Shy animals can become nervous and seek solitude, and some cats may even disappear for days. Make sure your companion animal has a safe haven – away from people, and where they can go to relax if they need to (you may also need to join them there by the end of the day!) 5. Ration leftovers - Some tasty foods are dangerous to dogs or cats. Some common foods to avoid feeding your pets include: chocolate, grapes, nuts, garlic or onion, mushrooms, tomato leaves or stems (often in salads), anything with caffeine or cooked chicken bones. 6. Know the Wildcare number - If you find sick or injured wildlife, phone 07 5527 2444. If you think your animal is heat stressed or has eaten something that has made them sick, call your veterinarian immediately.

News from St Luke’s By Di Ayscough Another Christmas has come and gone, we can now all enjoy a quieter time in the shops, and on the roads. I hope you were able to celebrate Christ’s birth, enjoy the company of family and friends and not feel the added pressure of paying off a big credit card debt. St Luke’s Carols Night was very successful and we are very grateful to have had Wendy and Liam leading the singing, while other members of the congregation took part in various ways to add to the enjoyment. If you missed the event this Christmas, then next time will be even better. You will be very welcome. The regular Friday evening end of month gathering which takes place in the Gazebo was also very successful as we celebrated the wonderful year, we have all enjoyed at St Luke’s. The church maintenance is always a priority and the main reason for our fundraising events. Now a big ceiling fan will keep you cool on a hot day. The front fence was removed as it was in a poor state. However, it has not been replaced as we feel this has had a positive, more welcoming effect by opening St Luke’s to the Canungra community. What will 2019 bring for St Luke’s and for us all? I am sure we all have had some thoughts about our future directions. Maybe you have set yourself some goals, or you know there will be changes in your life. It is easy to worry about changes, but since joining the congregation at St Luke’s some nine years ago, the changes in my life have been positive and worthwhile. Would you like to come along and see what St Luke’s has to offer? You may be quite surprised at the friendly welcome you receive, the friendships you develop, and the peace of mind you feel in your heart. God is good!

What a Hoot!

Canungra Owls Soccer Club news With Rachel Mathers. Happy New Year! We hope that our local soccer families have had well-earned rest… we’ll be driving the kids to and from training and games across the coast before you know it!

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

This year, registration opens on January 4th via playfootball.com.au. Before being able to register, parents/players will need to create a new account, which can be done at any time. As with all new systems, please be patient while we work through any problems with the initial set up. Although we believe this system will run a lot smoother and more efficient for club/ team officials, it does come with changes that are beyond our control. The biggest change that we need to ensure everyone is aware of is that teams can only be created when there is a sufficient number of paid players within a team. This means that for a team to be guaranteed entry into the draw/ competition, payments must be received no later than 1st March. If you’d like commence payments now, please contact us for details. Please note that during the registration process, Miniroo players who use their 2018 jersey/shirt in 2019, can apply a $25 “Jersey discount” during the registration process.

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

This year we’d really like to see improvement in player development. Although we completely value our volunteer coaches and recognise that without them, our kids wouldn’t have a team to play in, we also understand that there is nothing like someone with qualifications and experience to help our players be the best they can. We’ll be partnering up with a professionally accredited coach from Soccer X Pty Ltd who will not only be providing coaching to the players, but will be there to help the coach as well. More information will be provided before the start of the 2019 season.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Over the past few years, there has been a distinct decline in regular volunteers within the club. It seems that the same small group of people are always raising their hands to help out and we’d love for that to change. This year, we will be sending a list of tasks to parents/players outlining what we need help with. It would be greatly appreciated if you could assist us with volunteering. We’ll also be holding our AGM before the season starts, so keep an eye out on our Facebook page for more information. HOOT HOOT!
