Beechmont Road Repairs Continue Transport and Main Roads has completed repairs to 22 of the 23 landslips on Beechmont Road following damage after Tropical Cyclone Debbie in March 2017. The one remaining site, the largest of the 23 landslips, located between Mirani Street and Tarlington Road, is still under repair. TMR said difficult ground conditions at that landslip site have delayed the completion of these works. The project’s engineers and onsite team have been working hard to successfully install 21 anchors through the new pile wall and into hard rock. The anchors are 21 metres long and extend at an angle 15 metres into the earth

under the road and a further six metres into rock. This process anchors the pile wall in the opposite direction to the landslip. With the ground conditions proving difficult, the anchors have had to be drilled and re-drilled until the required seal is achieved. Based on the current schedule, the final landslip repair is now expected to be completed in February 2019. The project’s work hours are 6am to 6pm Monday to Saturday. The project closed for the Festive Season at 6pm on Friday 21st December and will return for 2019 at 6am on Monday 7th January.

The site was tidied as much as possible before the holiday break, however the construction zone remained in place with mobile traffic signals directing traffic one way past the work area. Due to the delay with completing this final landslip repair, the project’s site facilities in Bottletree Lane will remain in place until all repairs are complete in 2019. TMR advised that the project apologises for this unavoidable delay – this is the unpredictable nature of landslip repair works. TMR wished to thank the local community for their patience and understanding during these important restoration works.
