Draft Flying Fox Plan Released
A draft Canungra Flying Fox Roost Management Plan has been released for public consultation following its endorsement by Council. Corporate and Community Services Committee chair Cr Virginia West, who also represents Division 3 said the purpose of the Roost Management Plan was to provide direction for the management of the flying fox population located in Lions Park, Canungra. “At the core of the Roost Management Plan is a commitment in ensuring the health and safety of the Canungra community is balanced with the need to provide habitat for our native wildlife,” Cr West said. “The proposed Roost Management Plan includes a proposal to disperse flying foxes located in Lions Park in the centre of Canungra. This dispersal is anticipated to commence late July during a period of reduced flying fox activity.” Cr West said it was important to consider all options available when proposing to undertake flying fox management. “This includes giving serious consideration to current impacts on the community and any possible impacts that may occur as a result of the dispersal,” Cr West said. Residents are encouraged to learn more about Council’s plans for flying foxes in the region and comment on the Canungra Flying Fox Roost Management Plan by ‘dropping in’ to a community stall which will be set up adjacent to the Lions Park roost. Lions Park is located at the corner of Coburg Rd and Beaudesert-Nerang Rd, Canungra. Council’s stall will be open at Lion’s Park from 10am-2pm between Thursday 7th July and Sunday 10th July. For more information contact Council’s Environmental Policy and Services team on 5540 5111.

Beechmont
Beechmont Rural Fire Brigade members were recognised for their outstanding contribution to their brigade and community at a Queensland Fire Emergency Services (QFES) award ceremony on 14th June. QFES Deputy Commissioner Mick Wassing said the awards provided an opportunity for the community to recognise the exceptional achievements of the brigade’s 20 volunteers. RFSQ South Eastern Acting Regional Manager Kaye Healing said volunteers were presented with National Medals and Clasps along with Diligent and Ethical Service Medals. “The service years celebrated is outstanding, with the medal table representing over 465 years of accumulative volunteering years,” Ms Healing said. The brigade’s current membership comprises 29 firefighters, four trainees and 13 support members. Mr Wassing congratulated the Beechmont award winners and thanked them for their service to community. Special tribute was awarded to Vin Slingsby and John Munster (Third Officer).

2016-17 Scenic Rim Funding Doubled For Tourist Trail Gateway Projects
Two public art projects which will form way-finding gateways to a new Scenic Rim tourist trail have received a $100,000 boost in Council’s 2016-17 Budget. Council recently received a $100,000 grant from the Queensland Tourism Infrastructure Fund, part of the Commonwealth’s Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure Fund, for public art projects at Canungra and Tamborine Mountain to assist with the development of the Scenic Rim Way tourist trail. This grant funding has been matched with an additional $100,000 in Council’s 2016-17 Budget to deliver the Story Markers Project. Division 3 representative Cr Virginia West said Canungra’s public art project would complement beautification and
landscaping works already delivered adjacent to the School of Arts Hall in Canungra as part of the VATV program. “Canungra is a gateway village to the Scenic Rim in all respects. I look forward to seeing an installation which further enhances that sense of arrival but also creates a desire to explore southwards into Lamington National Park, north to Tamborine Mountain, west to Beaudesert and Boonah, as well as Rathdowney and Kooralbyn,” Cr West said. “This additional $100,000 commitment to the Story Markers Project in this year’s Budget is certainly a win for Canungra.” Mayor Greg Christensen said the Story Markers Project would combine public art and storytelling in towns and villages as part of the planned revitalisation
of these areas to create a way-finding experience. “Scenic Rim Way is a cornerstone of our long-term tourism strategy and seeks to promote the east-west corridor through our region, between the coastal Pacific Motorway and the Cunningham Highway across the Great Divide, as a tourist drive,” he said. “However, a scenic thoroughfare without connectivity to the communities through which it passes is just a road. We want to create a route which engages travellers with all our towns and villages in a thought-provoking manner as they travel not only from east to west but seek to branch out and explore our beautiful region further.”
Footpath Improvement Stepped Up
Council will step up its footpath improvement
program with a doubling of funding in 2016-17. Mayor Greg Christensen said $555,000 would be spent delivering upgrades in six Scenic Rim communities as part of the Community Plan vision for an accessible and serviced region. In Canungra, $55,000 has been allocated for a footpath from Duncan St leading to the School of Arts carpark. “By providing increased connectivity and amenity we are also contributing to the vibrancy of our towns and villages,” Cr Christensen said.

Regional Council Budget Roads and Revitalisation Underpin 2016-17 Budget
Record expenditure on roads and bridges and the rollout of long-term plans to revitalise three key population centres headline Scenic Rim Regional Council’s $96 million 2016-17 Budget. “A wave of opportunity is rising for Scenic Rim and now is the time for Council to invest in the revitalisation of our communities to help drive the region towards a bright and dynamic future,” Mayor Greg Christensen said. “This year’s Budget is a fiscal plan for the times and is about capitalising on the solid foundation of Council’s sustainable financial position and using this as a springboard to harness our full economic potential across all sectors of the economy.” Cr Christensen said continuing improvements to the region’s road and bridge network remained a fundamental focus for Council, in line with the shared Community Plan vision for an accessible and serviced region, and a central element for a sustainable and prosperous economy.
“A $31.4 million commitment to maintaining and renewing our roads and bridges reflects the importance of wellmaintained transport infrastructure in connecting our communities and providing the backbone of the local economy,” he said. “Budgeted spending on roads and bridges is up 38% on last year and 128% compared to 2008-09, which is a great outcome for our community.” Cr Christensen said Council had also committed almost $3.5 million to undertake the first stage of projects arising from the outcomes of the town centre masterplanning process for Boonah, Beaudesert and Tamborine Mountain. “This year we are taking our Vibrant and Active Towns and Villages to the next level, with three masterplans and the rollout of signature projects to underpin these long-term visions for our communities,” he said. “We have earmarked funds for the delivery of a signature town square
or gateway project which reflects the unique characteristics and personality of these three towns.” Key expenditure for Council 2016-17 includes: • Roads and Bridges $31.40 million • Vibrant and Active Towns and Villages $3.48 million • Facilities $7.58 million • Parks and Gardens $3.00 million • Community and Culture $5.03 million • Waste Operations $6.10 million • Planning $2.75 million • Health, Building and Environment $4.51 million Cr Christensen said Council had levied a 2.5% rate increase on owner-occupied residential properties in 2016-17. “The vast majority of Scenic Rim owner-occupiers, some 92%, will receive a rate increase of 2.5%,” he said. “The minimum rate will be $1162 or an increase of $28 on last year.”

Canungra Show Expanding into Moriarty Park
In its 78th year, the Canungra Show is set to expand into neighbouring Moriarty Park on 20th August 2016. The expansion of the Show will include the relocation of the Fine Arts Pavilion into Moriarty Park Hall - a larger and lighter area for artists to display their works. At Canungra Showground, roving entertainers will include popular favourites Bubbleman and Dan the Magic Man, as well as newcomers Scoot the Juggler and Star Wars characters. The Show is an integral part of the Canungra social scene and provides a chance for locals to catch up with each other, as well as to display their talents in some of the many ring events and pavillions. As part of Queensland’s equine kindergarten, Canungra Show’s horse events are numerous and competitive. This year Sideshow Alley has been
moved to the other side of the pavilion to make it a safer show for riders and their horses. Many of the classes have been expanded and the program is available online at www.canungrashowsociety.org or from sponsors’ businesses in Canungra. The Stud Beef cattle classes feature a Junior Handlers Section which is open to children from 8 years. A great way to get your children involved in showing! The woodchopping, held behind the bar and main pavillion, attracts a large crowd who enjoy sitting on the hill watching the action. The Problem with Dogs!
From My Window with Keer Moriarty, Editor
Balancing Act I often write about life being a balancing act juggling work and other commitments with family and time out. Well, this time the balancing act is a bit different. Coming up to our Federal Election, I offered the candidates for Wright that I could find (given the deadlines for the paper not all candidates were listed on the AEC web site) the opportunity to introduce themselves to our electorate with a photo (headshot) and a few words in the June edition of the paper. Now, I know the Canungra Times is not going to influence the outcome of any election but morally I want to give everyone equal opportunity - it is a democracy after all - and not let my opinions or political leanings interfere with the ability of the paper to inform people of what their choices are. In some ways this has been difficult for me, because I’ve had to put my views aside. So you will see that there are seven candidates in our electorate this year and those who were not in the June edition and have chosen to take up the offer have their information on the facing page. Apologies for the timing but hopefully you are all so keen to read the paper that you have seen it before you go to vote! Let the games begin, and may the odds be... Oh, wait, that was a movie...
Actually, there isn’t a problem with dogs. The problem lies with the owners. I understand why people have a need or desire to have pets, particularly dogs, especially when living in a rural/semi rural environment. They serve many purposes; guard dogs, domestic pets and loving companions. What I don’t understand is why owners don’t provide adequate training or suitable conditions for their dogs that would prevent them from becoming a nuisance to their neighbours and thereby causing continual friction and annoyance. It should’t be acceptable for your neighbour to constantly feel aggrieved, frustrated, and angry. It is very hard for a lot of people to pluck up the courage to explain there is a problem. Having approached a neighbour myself to explain the impact the constant barking and whining has on us, I was very much made to feel like the villain. I totally understand why more people don’t complain. Certainly, complaining more than once is extremely hard, and shouldn’t be necessary. I also understand that dogs will bark at particular times; during a storm, or when the garbage collector or postman comes; even when they are excited with the children. It is natural for that to happen. What I don’t accept is when people go out to work, for a day drop or just shut their doors and ignore the barking. When they are politely advised that there is a problem and choose to ignore it. I don’t like confrontation. It is upsetting and draining. All I ask is that owners do the right thing by their friends and neighbours. Be a bit more thoughtful and aware of the impact on others and actually do someting about it!! Thank you to all the owners who are thoughtful and do the right thing! Name and address withheld

Mark Stone is a self-employed Solicitor in the Lockyer Valley for the past 10 years. He completed his bachelor of laws at the University of Queensland. He is representing the Liberal Democrats, the party represented by Senator David Leyonhjelm in federal parliament. Like Senator Leyonhjelm, he believes in maintaining individual’s civil rights. Mark is an avid firearms owner participating in regular shooting competitions. Family First - Barry Austin
Barry Austin works full time as a welder. He lives at Cedar Vale and is married with four children and his first grandchild is due in October. Barry enjoys spending Saturday nights feeding the homeless in Fortitude Valley. Barry is deeply concerned the major parties are not serving families and small business well, and the lack of common sense toward managing the economy. We have to balance the family budget, yet the LNP and Labor have given up on managing the national budget which is tied to our incomes and bank accounts for us, our children or grandchildren to repay. The LNP and Labor have given up on paying down record national debt ($450 billion) and $14 billion in annual interest. Family First opposes their unprecedented pork-barrelling, their super and smoker tax grabs, and tricky, empty ten-year plans. We’re for Family business, family farms and every family, a job and a house. If every family had a job and a house, family demand for welfare would reduce as they became independent. Family businesses create jobs – not politicians. The Coalition haven’t built up a Costello surplus for potential global shocks like Britain exiting the EU, South China Sea tensions or a Trump presidency. They are so out of touch with voters that they want to muck about with marriage. On the crossbench with Family First colleagues in the Senate like Rod McGarvie, I’ll force the government back to basics, back in the black, off your back, and out of your pocket.
One Nation - Rod Smith
I joined One Nation in 1997. My first priority is I want to see it possible for all Australians to own their own home. That means training for locals and secure employment for locals that pays a living wage. It also means restricting immigration to the point where the housing market is not red hot all the time. We don’t need high immigration anymore nor have we the housing, the water, the internet capacity, the jobs, infrastructure, hospitals, parking, schools you name it, to take in more people. Plus, banks have to be supervised more closely to prevent them providing over-easy credit that fuels property bubbles and fee rip-offs. My second priority is health care. This means governments have to live within their means. As it is now, politicians and bureaucrats get paid first and then the public get grudging services from government from what’s left over. Again, we need sustainable immigration otherwise our precious health and other resources will be overwhelmed by demand. Australia is mired in debt and we can no longer provide open chequebook foreign aid to often corrupt regimes nor can we be seen as a soft touch by people smugglers and others. Moreover, to achieve the above aims, there needs to be a whole-ofgovernment approach for small to medium business. Governments need to be educated that small and medium businesses are not ATM’s for taxes, fines and fees, nor are they a playground for red-tape loving officials. Business needs certainty, in order to feel secure to take risks, to invest, to employ. My wife and I have been married for 32 years and live at Coleyville. We have four children. Our children live/study/work in Brisbane. In my time I have worked in my family’s engineering business, on state railways, in real estate sales, before starting our current wall and floor tiling business, in 1990.
Mature Australia Party John Cox
I am a proud 8th generation Australian who wants to see greater equality in the conduct of our governments and political affairs, nationally. I want to be a part of national efforts to reclaim Australia’s reputation as the “lucky country”. It was, until economic and administrative mismanagement by successive governments over recent decades changed all that. I want to build bridges between the Australian people and the governments who are elected to serve you. I have great passion for our country and I am proud of the fact that my family has contributed to preserving Australians’ freedom. My father and grandfather served in both wars for Australia and several other relatives have served in the armed services. My political objectives in Representing You. 1. I want to see reform to our taxation laws to ensure that big companies operating in Australia, and making money here, must pay taxes here. 2. I want to protect the family home from seizure by government, by reverse mortgage or any other measures. Home owners must retain their right to pass on the family home from one generation to the next. We need to increase pension payment rates. 3. I believe there must be “safety nets” for our farmers, to supply assistance in times of drought and desperation, to get their cattle to market or to build abattoirs in regional areas to process the sheep and cattle. This will create valuable jobs in the country and provide food for Australia and overseas. 4. Being a small business operator for many years I understand the difficulties of small business, the truck drivers in the transport industry, contractors in the building industry and others.

PARKING IN TOWN
With all the shops being occupied and the town becoming such a busy and vibrant place to be for both local residents and visitors, parking has become a challenge at times. Did you know the carpark alongside the School of Arts is a council owned carpark available at all times for public parking. Residents and business owners who are new to town may not have been aware they are able to park there.

Nature’s Gems
White-fronted Chat (Epthianura albifrons) By Melissa Whitby Throughout my travels in Australia, I have encountered some beautiful bird species in many shapes, colours and forms. One group of birds, which especially stands out, is the “Chats”. These beautiful birds although small are extremely colourful. The White-fronted Chat was a species that had eluded me for many years until I travelled to Western Australia and literally stumbled them onto them on Rottnest Island. The male and female of this species look distinctly different and the male is the easiest to identify. Male White-fronted Chats have a white face and throat with a black band across the chest which runs up behind the back of the birds’ head. The female has similar markings, which are much duller in colour. There are three other species of Chats in Australia and these are the Crimson Chat, Orange Chat and Yellow chat. White-fronted Chats can be seen in a variety of habitats including salt marshes, fence lines, grass clumps and saltbush-plains. As mentioned, my first sightings of this bird species were on Rottnest Island around the edge of shallow salt lakes. Last year, I also observed White-fronted Chats on Bruny Island in Tasmania in an open paddock with grass clumps and fence lines. These birds have a distinctive walk and are very active when hunting for insects. They will also readily use fence lines to perch upon when the opportunity arises. This species of Chat will breed from July through to January and the nest is placed in deep in a tussock or low shrub. The distribution of the White-fronted Chat includes Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. For anyone wanting to see the White-fronted Chat easily, I would suggest heading White-fronted Chat for the salt lakes on Rottnest Island in October. These small birds are a pleasure to watch and I took many pictures of them on Rottnest Island. They are a bird species that are certainly worth travelling the distance for!

Funnel-Web Spider (Hadronyche spp) Photo: R Raven
Where does a Funnel-Web Spider fit into the food chain? By Susan Cully Funnel-Webs are mostly medium-sized spiders with two small finger-like spinnerets seen at the end of the body. They are shiny, black-headed spiders with a black to blue-black body and long legs. Male Funnel-Webs are active from August through to May in SEQ They can be found in Beechmont and Mt Tamborine rainforests as well as in the leaf litter of adjacent gullies, blocked down pipes and swimming pools. They roam on rainy, summer nights, males in search of females, as well as hunting. Their favourite prey are vegetarian millipedes. The trembling, tramping footfalls of a millipede are highly suggestive to the Funnel Web Spider that dinner is close by. The spider must act very quickly to subdue the millipede that has its own weapon … cyanide spray. Crickets and beetles, with a mere 6 legs, are largely ignored. At dawn they retire to moist homes under logs and in the leaf litter. Here they may be found by a gardener (hopefully wearing gloves) but also by the large black rainforest skink, the Land Mullet. Land Mullets are unaffected by the spider’s venom and enjoy the meal. Dogs and cats are unaffected by the venom. Humans have been known to die within 15 minutes of envenomation. Not every bite involves injection of the venom. Any bite should be treated with the utmost care. In cases of suspected Funnel-Web bites, apply a crepe bandage and contact Triple Zero (000). The Queensland Museum has a 24-hour emergency telephone identification service for spider bites on 0412 848 467. Funnel-Webs cannot jump or leap and cannot climb smooth vertical surfaces, such as glass. Trapdoor Spiders, Mouse Spiders and the Black House Spider are sometimes mistaken for Funnel-Webs and killed unnecessarily.
Vets Urge Owners To Desex!
Veterinarians around Australia are urging local animal owners to get their pets desexed as part of National Desexing Month in July. “Vets are often the first contact point for unwanted cat and dog pregnancies and know the heartache involved with unwanted litters,” National Desexing Network Director Sylvana Wenderhold said. “We are delighted to have the support of vets in this campaign. We’re urging as many pet owners as possible and take advantage of the discounted rates to get their pets desexed,” Ms Wenderhold said. The National Desexing Network (NDN) is the brainchild of Animal Welfare League Queensland. Now in its twelfth year, it asks veterinarians around the country to sign up on the NDN website and offer discounted cat and dog desexing options within their communities. This year’s theme is ‘Don’t like Surprises? Desex your pet’. “Pet owners play a vital role in reducing the number of kittens and puppies, before they need care,” Ms Wenderhold said. Last year more than 2,500 kittens and nearly 1,200 puppies were born, surrendered or simply dumped at one of five AWLQ rehoming centres in South East Queensland alone. “Animal Welfare League Queensland and other groups across the country are trying to save as many lives as possible, but we have to break the cycle,” Ms Wenderhold said. Ms Wenderhold said there are many other reasons to have your pet desexed. “They are less likely to stray, spray in and around your house, be injured fightover territory, are more Surprise! ing relaxed and affectionate and, generally, live longer and happier lives. And who wouldn’t want that for their dog or cat?” Both Canungra and Tamborine Mountain Veterinary Surgery are a part of the National Desexing Network. They are both offering a 15% discount off the standard I just hit price of desexing (which in clinics includes intravepuberty! both nous fluids).
AWL Pets of the Month
Sansa (ID: 51290) Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross, six years, female. Sansa is the cutest little pocket rocket! This sweet little lady looks and acts like a miniature staffy! She is friendly and loving with all new people, and enjoys the company of dogs too! She prefers those who are polite and clam when meeting, but who then want to play a little afterwards. She will need continued leash training, and just loves to play with balls out in the yard. Come and meet this adorable little lady today! Sansa is $250 and is fully desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. Piper is a lovely, big independent girl looking for a family to love. So we find it hard to believe that the three and a half year old has been with us since 1st December, last year. She will be a loyal companion once she has settled into her new home, as she loves attention, especially a pat and play! Piper also enjoys sitting safely outside in the AWLQ cat enclosure enjoying the sun as she waits for her new home. While Piper has become a staff favourite, we would also love to see her find her new home soon. There will be tears of joy and sadness when she leaves us. Is Piper your perfect match? While it costs AWLQ, on average, $600 to rehome each animal, Piper as our Pet of the Month is just $50 to adopt. Included in that adoption fee is her de-sexing, vaccination and microchipping To meet Sansa, Piper or other animals available for adoption, visit the AWL Gold Coast Rehoming Centre:

Two senior teams participated in the interschool AFL competition played at Moriarty Park. Canungra played against teams from St Bernards SS and Tamborine Mountain SS. This is the fifth year in a row that Canungra have won the Hinterland Primary Schools AFL Cup. Canungra 1 played some great AFL to be undefeated on the day, scoring a total of 180 points and only having seven points scored against them. Canungra 2 started the day slowly with two losses but showed great character to come back and win their final game. Both teams are to be commended for their standard of play and sportsmanship. Sudoku
Solution page 27
This is a ‘classical’ sudoku puzzle - a grid 9 squares wide and 9 squares deep. The lines of squares running horizontally are called rows, and the lines running vertically are called columns. The grid is further divided by the darker lines into nine 3 X 3 square ‘boxes’. Some of the squares already have numbers in them. Your task is to fill in the blank squares. There’s only one rule: Each row, column and box must end up containing all of the numbers from 1 to 9. This rule has an important side-effect, which is the basis of all solving techniques: Each number can only appear once in a row, column or box.
News from St Luke’s
By Di Ayscough
At our recent Guild Meeting, the question was asked, “What does St Luke’s mean to the Canungra community”. We shared a variety of thoughts, concluding, we hope it is more than just that little wooden building opposite the hotel. The small congregation who regularly attend St Luke’s see it as a place of worshipping God, a place to share thoughts, enjoy each other’s company and work towards maintaining the 80 year old church. We also feel it is a place of love and protection where we feel God is with us. Very soon it will be a place of celebration as we welcome Bishop Alison on 10th July, and we enjoy a birthday party for St Luke’s 80th at our annual dinner on the 26th August. Perhaps you would enjoy coming along to these activities, or are you a little apprehensive because you are not a “regular” or you haven’t been before? I am about to embark on a camping holiday in the Kimberley’s of WA with a group of strangers. How will I feel not knowing anyone? Will I fit in? I am sure we have all had these feelings before when embarking on something new – whether it be a new job, a holiday or joining a group for some new venture. If you have those apprehensive feelings about joining in at St Luke’s there is no need to worry. You would be made very welcome. If you want to make a start, you will find Rev. Valerie’s weekly sermon, along with other items of interest on our parish website www.apotm. org.au. Maybe that could be a starting point for you.

The Canungra Times
The Canungra Times Did you know:
The Canungra Times is Canungra’s only local monthly paper. The paper was started in May 2015 by Stu Comley. It was sold in 2012 but remains independently owned and operated - one of several independently owned newspapers in the Scenic Rim. Most of the content for the paper comes from local residents - the only regular content from outside the Scenic Rim is the Horoscope, Kids Puzzles on the Kids’ page, Suduko and the Crossword.

Sport Stephen Mills, Club President Winter is upon us and luckily we haven’t had too many issues with the weather so far with training days and games still going ahead mostly and all of our Teams doing extremely well both on and off the field. We are seeing some wonderful bonds and behaviours developing in the club. Local derby last week with our two Under 7s playing off against each other and some great sportsmanship all round, well done. Our two all girls’ teams are performing well in the all girls competition and hoping to build on their skill levels with some professional coaching with Gary French over this school holidays.
Gary’s courses went down well and we look forward to working more with him later in the year. Our Men’s team are putting it all in as well and please if you get a chance to watch them pop down and show your support - follow us on Face Book for all club information and game days. Our Executive Committee have been working hard to submit a grant proposal for some much needed field upgrades which will include a complete resurface if we are lucky enough to secure the funding, keep your fingers crossed. Calling out for all our local suppliers, tradespeople and businesses to get behind our small local club with any
help with improving and growing the club with either financial assistance or donations of services. We really want to make the Canungra Owls Soccer club the pride of our village for our youth and give them the best opportunities with team sport. Special thanks to two new local Bronze sponsors - Dan from Rent a bar and Paul King and Paul Nikolas Painting As Club President my aim is to increase our players every year and nurture and develop the kids we have now, so if you’re keen for your children to play soccer pop on down and have a chat with me or any of the Committee. Onwards and upward, hoot hoot!

Get Ready to Rodeo!
The best of South-East Queensland’s cowboys will be at Canungra Showground on Saturday 9th July for the Canungra Hotel Rodeo. There will be great action with all the traditional Rodeo events - bull ride, bareback ride, barrel racing and steer ride for the crowd to enjoy. Canungra AH&I Society Rodeo Coordinator, Terry Sharland said the Rodeo will feature a Senior Bull Ride for competitors over 40 years of age for the first time. “In the USA they have senior rodeos and a grand final each year,” said Terry, “And it is gaining a good following in Australia.” Terry said Canungra attracts the best of the best - with all events hotly contested. ”Our chute boss, Will Kelly is a world champion in the senior saddle bronc ride whilst we have a competitor named David Mahwinney who is the current World All Round Champion cowboy, saddle bronc, bull ride, steer wrestling,” he said, “Dave will be competing at Canungra 2016 and we will also have Gold Coast boy Clinton Anderson who is a top competitor.” Visitors to the Rodeo will be able to test their own buckjumping skills with a mechanical bull on site, as well as children’s rides, western and country clothing outlets and a wide variety of food stalls. Society President, Airlie Worrall said the Society is a not for profit organisation which has invited other community organisations to benefit from the Rodeo and the Canungra Show, held on 20th August. “The Canungra Bowls Club will be running the canteen on the day and the Mudgeeraba Trail Riding Club is helping by using their volunteer members for the parking,” she said. Canungra Rodeo is held at Canungra Showground, Coburg Road, Canungra with main events commencing at 2pm, and pre-performance from 11am. Admission is $20 for adults, Children (aged 3 - 15 years) - $5, family tickets (2 adults, 3 children) - $45 and aged pensioners $5. Tickets are sold at the gate. Parking is availalbe on site for a gold coin donation.
