Canungra Boys Fight for World Titles in Malaysia

The went out boys, but they came back men. These three young men from Canungra travelled to Malaysia from 1st - 10th May for the IFMA 2014 World Championships. Cameron (aged 14) and Joshua (aged 11) Torrens and Zak Tilley (aged 13) represented Australia amongst the 101 countries who fought at the titles. All three made it through to the finals and brought home silver medals in their weight and age divisions. Australia sent 45 adults and juniors to the World Titles. The Muaythai Australia facebook page stated “This IFMA Championships has turned out better than anyone could have expected. Not only will the Australian Team be bringing home a swag of medals, we were also awarded the Team Sportsmanship’s award. Out of 101 countries Australia was recognised as the most organised team at Registration, reports came in that the R&J’s considered the Australian team as the friendliest team. This award is one of the most sort after team awards that can be given by IFMA and we got it!!!!” “Well done to all the Management team, Coaches and Athletes you have really made Australia and Muaythai Australia proud” They began training about three years ago but Zak said they started fighting about one year ago. Their dedication to their sport is something the three young men take very seriously. They train six or seven days a week, at times for two to three hours per day, as well as

Silver medallists Zak Tilley, Joshua and Cameron Torrens

attending school and keeping up with their homework. In many cases Cameron, Joshua and Zak have had to fight more experienced fighters but they have always done their Coach and supporters proud, showing great ability, fitness and sportsmanship. Their parents Rebecca and David Torrens and Shae and Shane Tilley are their greatest supporters, along with Coach Jamie Tozeland. They have helped all three young men realise their dreams of representing their country and will continue to support their sport. Cameron and Joshua’s sister,

Your lifestyle counts!

Samantha trains with them and has become involved in the sport as a talented fighter. Last November Josh stepped up to face some of Australia’s best Muay Thai boxers at the Australian Titles. He took out first place in the 11 yr old 42kg division, becoming an Australian champion. Cameron, Zak and Joshua train at the Hamma Muaythai Gym at Biddaddaba. Their next goal is to compete in the Australian Titles in Tallebudgeera in October this year and then to travel to Phuket in January for the next World Titles.

‘Musical Minds’ for 0-5’s By Patricia D

This music group offers a wide variety of fun musical activities for pre-schoolers 0 to 5 (and parents). In my groups I like to get kids involved to explore movement, rhythm and sound, using voice and a wide variety of musical instruments, refining co-ordination skills etc. The group also facilitates interaction and learning of early social concepts, through both active participation and observation of others. Activities include singing and movement to music, as well as the use of various percussion instruments and melodic instruments. As a music therapist and musician, I have been facilitating kids music and activity groups for 20 years. There are many published studies demonstrating that children who participate in musical activities from an early age have better outcomes in education, particularly in numeracy and literacy. ‘Musical Minds’ is held every Wednesday during school terms at the School of Arts Hall. If you are interested in attending or for more details, please call Patricia on 0429 191 514.

Scenic Rim Artists at Brisbane Square Library

Several Scenic Rim Artists are currently exhibiting their work at the Brisbane Square Library. The exhibition will run until the end of June and is located on the second floor of the building. Local watercolourist, Gerard Walker and mosiacs artist Melissa Latimer travelled to Brisbane with the artworks and spent over four hours putting the exhibition together on behalf of the other artists. The exhibition also features work by photographer Vanessa Laverty (Blue Iris Photography), Wendy

The Canungra Times, June 2014

Trulson (Textile Art) and Debbie Oberhardt (Pottery). Vanessa said she hopes the exhibition will be repeated in future years as a lead up to the Open Studio Art Trail to further promote the event in the Scenic Rim. “We are all very happy to be involved in the exhibition and very grateful to Gerard and Melissa for the work they put into putting the exhibition together,” she said. “It is a great opportunity for us as artists but also for the Scenic Rim.”

Tax Time: Preparing for the Accountant

Landlord Protection Insurance

The end of financial year is approaching fast. Yep, it’s time to starting thinking about getting all your receipts for expenses and donations, Invoices, car log book and other information ready to drop into the accountant. If you’re like most of us that will mean pulling all the fuel receipts out of the car glove box and going through the infamous drawer in the kitchen where we have thrown all the paperwork collected during the year. Oh and the bank statements… have you noticed there is always one page missing! There are a number of methods used by tax professionals to set prices. Including; set fees, value based fees or most commonly an hourly rate for time spent preparing the return. Providing your records in an organised and summarised manner will assist the accountant in completing the return more efficiently and should help in reducing your fees. So, a few suggestions; • If you have a pile of expense receipts, provide them accompanied with a summary. • Ensure all your bank statements are included. • Provide a summary of all income and expenses and attach relevant documentation. • Ensure your cash book or

Landlord protection insurance is available to all property owners to cover for the unexpected situation of lost rent should a tenant fail to pay and accidental and malicious property damage to name a few. When choosing an insurance cover, it is important to read the terms and conditions of the coverage. Many bank & financial institutions offer a level of landlord cover during the mortgage sign-up process – but beware .... these insurance covers are often not as comprehensive as the ones from specialised landlord protection insurance brokers and may offer a shorter rent loss coverage period, exclude malicious damage, floor coverings (contents insurance) and have other factors and conditions that can impact on a claim.

accounting software is reconciled to your bank account. • If you have any personal insurance or have made super contributions provide copies of renewal or contribution notices. • Collate all medical expenses and provide a summary. • Additional information that should be provided includes: personal identification, Bank account details, Medicare card or number, Private Health Insurance annual statement and spouse details including details of income. Providing the right information on a timely basis should lead to lower costs and a faster turnaround time. When you visit your accountant, also ask how they determine prices and what they estimate your tax preparation service might cost. However, because of the set fee or per-hourly rate, it may be impractical for an accountant to provide you with an accurate price quote, therefore ask for a likely price range.

Window locks a national concern

Each year, around 50 children fall from windows or balconies in Australia, which is almost one a week. Many suffer serious injuries and sometimes these falls are fatal. Children aged between 1 and 5 are most at risk as they are too young to judge the potential danger. With this in mind it is important for landlords to be aware of window locks when considering presenting your property in a safe condition for the tenants to reside. Legislation states that landlords must provide and maintain locks necessary to ensure that the property is reasonably secure. While it is not a legal requirement for landlords to provide window locks, we strongly recommend that every property has these installed to protect you in times of potential litigation should there be an injury. SCENIC RIM Eat Local Week returns for its fourth year this June and is shaping to be the biggest celebration of the region’s local produce yet. Scenic Rim food, wine and beer producers are preparing for the weeklong celebration of farming, food and eating local. Scenic Rim Eat Local Week, from June 28 to July 6, is a showcase of the people who produce food and wine in the region, which is emerging as a rich food bowl to south-east Queensland and beyond. The festival of food and farming is held in the first week of the June-July School holidays and encourages consumers of all ages to think about the food they eat and the journey it has made to their plate. The event features a series of free and low-cost activities, including farm tours, producer dinners, cooking classes, cheese-making workshops, a carrot field day and an authentic Winter Harvest Festival and a tractor pulling competition. Scenic Rim Eat Local Week was created as a way of better connecting consumers with the people who grow and produce their food. The region boasts valleys of fertile alluvial soil, which grows a bounty of fruit and vegetables, wine and gourmet products, including olives, cheese, jams and relishes. Mayor Cr John Brent, who is a fourth generation vegetable farmer, says as well as raising awareness of how fresh food is produced the week is about highlighting the benefits of sourcing in-season food close to the source. “Agriculture and tourism contribute $402-million to the regional economy and Eat Local Week is a celebration of the people whose hard work makes that possible,” says Cr Brent. “Eat Local Week asks visitors and Scenic Rim locals to consider their food and wine choices and recognise the vast array of products available on their doorstep. “We talk a lot about food miles and promote the health and financial benefits of sourcing food direct from the farm. “The Scenic Rim is a region which has been built on the back of rural industry and to this day boasts a thriving agricultural sector. Between June and December each year many of the vegetables consumed along the eastern seaboard of Australia are grown in the Scenic Rim. “As well as vegetable crops, the region also produces milk, chicken, pork, beef and a burgeoning range of gourmet lines, including olives, oils, finger limes, dragon fruit, wine, coffee, tea, liqueurs made from native ingredients, jams, relishes, vegetarian, vegan and organic products. “Eat Local Week is a chance to meet the farmers, taste the food, and feast from the Scenic Rim’s smorgasbord of fresh produce.” Eat Local Week and the Winter Harvest Festival are supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland as part of a growing calendar of sporting, cultural and regional events throughout the state.

TO 6th JULY - IN THE SCENIC RIM New Ideas To Be Exchanged at Zest Fest

New ideas will be exchanged at the fifth annual Beechmont Zest Festival, held at the Hall on Graceleigh next to Beechmont State School on Sunday 29th June. As part of the festival’s continued approach to sustainable living and with the potential for 2014 to be a dry year, this year’s festival will provide opportunities to discuss and exchange ideas about strategic water management techniques for sustainable food production. Visitors to the festival can learn how to create, use and maintain their own wicking beds, aquaponic systems and worm farms as they watch demonstrations and engage with experienced practitioners. Event management team member Mark Pickard said the festival was unique in its approach in that “Zest Fest provides the local community and local businesses a forum to discuss and exchange ideas about practical solutions to developing and sustaining simple

food security systems in an increasingly challenging growing environment.” There will also be a range of other Community Conversations, where visitors can discuss topics and share experiences, on cheese making and community gardening. A wide range of locally produced foods will be on sale including wines. The festival will again feature local arts and crafts and draw on the skills of the region’s highly talented musicians such as Will Miller and Lily White, and there will be something for all the family with supervised children’s activities such as mask making, story-telling, art workshops and music making. The day will run from 9.30am to 4.00pm, with an entry charge of $5 per person and free entry for children. All funds raised will go towards Beechmont Area Progress Association who manage the running of this festival. For more information go to www. facebook.com/BeechmontZestFest.

Council Comment By Cr Virginia West Scenic Rim Regional Council

Canungra Waste Station Opening Hours

Following a requested trial by residents to open the transfer stations at the earlier hour of 7 am one morning a week, numbers attending during 7am until 9am do not warrant the increased cost involved. As of June 2 opening hours will be 9am until 5pm each day and closed all day Thursday. A waste receptacle will be installed outside the gates on Mondays only for residents who have been using the early opening hours.

Tourism Injects $150 Million

A recent study of Scenic Rim businesses and tourism operators, commissioned by the Tourism Advisory Committee, has revealed the tourism business injects $150 million into our local economy. As well as employing almost 1600 people this study confirms that tourism and agriculture continue to be the pillars of our local economy.

Recent Open Studios Success

Red Door Studio in Appel Street

It was wonderful to see such successful open studios weekend last month and to see the confidence that has developed for our local artists, many who now showcase their own studios. The weekend was certainly a busy one and despite the chilly weather the studios had record numbers of visitors. Congratulations to you all and we look forward to your participation next year.

Eat Local Week Begins With Zest Fest

The next signature event in the region is Eat Local Week which starts on 28 June and runs until 6 July with events all around the region. The first event is of course Zest Fest which is a community celebration of all Beechmont enterprises and producers and is an event not to be missed. Gates open at 9.30 am at The Hall on Graceleigh. Canungra celebrates the week with the infamous Eat Local Dinner hosted by Robyn and John Fortescue at Wallaby Ridge on July 2nd. Bookings are essential and places go very quickly.

Something for Everyone: From Chainsaws to Gourd Art By Robyn Fortescue

Despite the sudden chill of the first weekend of May, a constant stream of art lovers rugged up and visited the first leg of the Scenic Rim Open Studios of the Canungra and Beechmont Artists and collectives. Wallaby Ridge Retreat hosted six diverse Artists in an eclectic and interesting display including a live chainsaw carving in progress by Matt Bird. Inspired by the Valley of the Owls theme of Canungra, two owls were born out of the leatherwood log set out for him for the weekend. Delicate feathers, feet and nesting hollow emerged, all entirely crafted deftly with a chainsaw! Red Door Studio in Appel Street

hosted resident artist Tamlyn Geiger as well as stained glass artist and silversmith Emma Dusting. All studios artists reported a successful weekend with plenty of visitors, sales and commissions. The following week there was an invitation to display work in the Brisbane State Library, subsequently organised by Gerard Walker and Melissa Pinington. The invitation to the Wallaby Ridge Collective was extended to include the other artists on the trail. It’s great to see so much emerging talent, gaining confidence and participating, the enthusiasm and the willingness of the group to work together is contagious and spurs us (Robyn and John from Wallaby Ridge) on to continue supporting the event year after year. Now in its seventh year, the Canungra leg is now established as a strong cultural event for the area drawing visitors from Northern NSW, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Toowoomba and beyond. Left: Musicians play at Red Door Studio during the Open Studios. Right: Tamlyn Geiger of Red Door Studio had a trail of shoes leading from Kidston Street to the Studio door!

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea at O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyard

From My Window with Keer Moriarty, Editor

When we all work together ... Last month, we opened an agency for Bendigo Bank in my office. I say ‘we’ because this has been a team effort by the Canungra and District Community Bank Steering Committee. It is another step toward the Community Bank which will return profits to local shareholders and the wider community. The idea of a bank branch giving 80% of its profits back to the community (the other 20% returned to shareholders) is foreign to most people, but in the case of the Community Banks that is exactly what they do. That is the reason you will see volunteers from our community - not employees of Bendigo Bank - giving up their time on weekends to encourage our community to support this enterprise. So, thank you to the Steering Committee members and others who have been instrumental in getting the agency up and running. A few people deserve a special mention - John Fortescue, David Baker, Julie Walker, Tracee Smith, Elisha Bogie and Janine Rockliff. There are times when this seems like a long, slow process, but I have seen firsthand the benefits of the Op Shop returning a percentage of its profits to the community, and I know the difference this community bank can make. In the long run, its going to be worth it.

Taking some time out - Robyn Mahony, Carol Baker, Marie May and Josephine Wilson

A great morning for all ages to enjoy - from babies to the ladies!

Well Being

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2

With Clancy Beck

Reviewed by Sophie Moriarty (aged 9)

Hidden Path to Success

Do you look at the success other people are achieving with their weight loss or fitness goals and wish you could have the same? You see their body looking fitter and slimmer and wish it would happen to you that ‘fast’ or easily.... you want their body, or their determination or luck? The problem is you are only looking at their success from the outside. You see the end result of their hard work and want that for yourself, without seeing the hours, weeks and months of effort, discipline and hard work they’ve previously put in. You don’t always see the detours they’ve had to make, the obstacles they’ve faced, or the timescale involved in achieving that success. You also aren’t aware of how many times they’ve resisted that chocolate bar, said no to fries, or got up in the dark to exercise. Unfortunately the path to achieving any goal is rarely a neat straight line from A to B. We each have life circumstances, and individual differences that often take us on the windiest of paths, with potholes and obstacles along the way to test our resilience and commitment. Just remember that every obstacle is conquerable, and should never be a reason to stop, or never start a journey. We can’t always see the whole path ahead. It might ‘seem’ as though we are up against a road block, but often if we just keep taking small steps forward in the right direction, the next section of the path will open up and we’ll be on our way to success. Your journey to success will always be different from someone else’s. If you can use another’s success as a source of inspiration rather than one of frustration, you may well make your own path a little easier.

Director: Cody Cameron, Kris Pearn. Stars: Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Will Forte. Rated: G. Run Time: 95 minutes.

Vanessa Ready for Solo Exhibition

Local photographer, Vanessa Laverty of Blue Iris Photography has had a busy year. On top of studying, Vanessa is about to open her second solo exhibition Reflections at Crows Nest Regional Art Gallery in Toowoomba. The exhibition presents an abstract and unique perspective of the landscape captured by this contemporary photographer. It runs from 4th - 29th June with the opening day on Sunday 8th June from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Vanessa’s work was recently displayed as part of the Open Studios Art Trail at Wallaby Ridge where she joined several other artists over the weekend. Her photography is eye-catching, with stunning portraits and landscapes drawing the viewer into her perspective and making the most of her subjects. To add to her repertoire, Vanessa has recently been published in Camper Trailer Australia’s current

issue. Her article and photography “First Impressions of the Aussie Swag” allowed her to combine another of her great passions, camping, with her photography. Vanessa has lived in Canungra for many years and has a great commitment to the community. Blue Iris Photography is the major sponsor for the Canungra Show’s Photography section this year and she has also donated one of her prints to the Fassifern Vaulting Club who are raising funds to send several riders to France. Crows Nest Regional Art Gallery generally is open Tuesday to Saturday 10.30am-3.30pm and from 11.30am to 3.30pm on Sunday. Patrons are advised to phone 4698 1687 in advance to ensure the community art space is open. To view Vanessa’s photography work and read her blog, visit www. blueirisphotography.com.au.

Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus Latirostris) By Melissa Whitby My travels throughout Australia have enabled me to observe many extraordinary bird species. One bird that totally captivated me was the Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo. This particular cockatoo is endemic to the south-west region of Western Australia. The Carnaby’s Black cockatoo is easily recognised by its black colouring, white face patches and white patches on the underside of the tail. Male birds have black bills with a pinkish eye-ring. Female birds have a whitish-grey bill with grey eye-rings. The Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo can easily be

mistaken with the Baudin’s Black Cockatoo. The major difference between the two species is that the Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo has a shorter, robust bill to the Baudin’s Black Cockatoo. This cockatoo utilises a variety of habitats including exotic pine plantations, wheatbelt areas, woodlands and sandplain areas. Much of their time is spent feeding on grevilleas, hakeas and banksias. The breeding season for the Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo is from July to November. Two eggs can be laid. This beautiful cockatoo is threatened due to the loss of nest trees, urban development, car strike and illegal poaching of eggs. A combined conservation effort of the WA government, Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Centre and the Perth Zoo are working together to stem the decline of this iconic bird. Last year, I was privileged to be able to observe these birds in close quarters at the Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Centre in Perth. It is my hope that this beautiful bird continues to follow its ancestral flight paths for many years to Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo come…

Jean is a lovely girl who is looking for a family to call her own. She came to us just before Christmas, on 23rd December 2013. Unfortunately black cats are often overlooked in shelters and that is definitely the case for Jean. She loves sun baking, so she is often near the back of the pen - meaning people don’t pay her much attention. Jean would make a wonderful indoor companion - she would love to curl up on your lap or your bed, or lie on a windowsill watching the day go by. She is a beautiful, friendly girl who loves her cuddles and is very tolerant. She would make a wonderful addition to any family - whether you have another cat or not. If you’re looking for a lifetime of love she is your girl! Roxy is a 2 year old Labrador/ Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross. She is a lovely, friendly girl who would love a home where she could be given a daily walk and be a part of the family’s daily life. She gets on well with other dogs, and likes to have a bit of a play every now and then. She would love to have a family who’s home more often than not and will require secure fencing. To meet Jean, Roxy or other animals available for adoption, visit the AWL Gold Coast Rehoming Centre.

The transit of Venus through Taurus, is heaven sent. She doesn’t take you on an extroverted journey of delight however. Instead she takes you on a rich journey of selfreflection. She takes you into the lush private spaces that nourish and delight you - in your private universe.

If you find yourself getting idealistic, you are really onto something. The zodiac climate has changed slightly for you. Mars has moved into a new phase on his journey through Libra. Less is he tangling his toes trying to keep everyone happy. He is helping you take a clear position.

Your Stars - June 2014

ARIES (Mar 21 – Apr 20)

The solar fires of the Sun are burning brilliantly in Gemini. The Sun brings life, light and vitality. With the kind of clarity you now have, you’re able to look into dark places and see what’s going on – should you wish to. Rather than be dazzled by this, use the available light purposefully.

CANCER (June 22 – July 22)

The Moon sets the tone for the month by being in Cancer. It rings a big cosmic bell that resonates through your whole being. The natural instinct of the astrological crab, is to go out and do barrel-loads of nurturing. Love ferociously. This is no time to seize up and get in your own way.

VIRGO (Aug 23 – Sept 22)

Intellectual clarity is important. It helps one become available to a deeper emotional clarity. Watch for the lazy collective habit of being anti-intellectual. Don’t go there. Be smart enough to know what you have to do and see, in order to open your feeling channels. Embrace lucidity.

LIBRA (Sept 23 – Oct 23)

This month bodes a change of tune. As Mars moves further into Libra, so you will find yourself less caught in the paradoxical game of fighting for peace, and more likely to hold to ideas that matter. Mars is here to help you boost your courage and confidence. Take him up on it.

SCORPIO (Oct 24 – Nov 21)

Saturn is retrograde. The hunt for wisdom takes you further into the stillness that has become so precious. You really don’t have to satisfy other people’s wishes that you become a part of their circus. Any stress you might be feeling, could be coming from your resistance to silence.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

As the Sun moves through Gemini, so you are thrown into the position of trying to figure out who you are through the eyes of others. Relationships of all kinds are exceedingly important. Each is a mirror - and each mirrors something completely different. Expand your emotional horizons.

With the Sun in Gemini, communication is the order of the day. This is not silent communion, where secrets are whispered from being to being by some method of osmosis. This means actually talking. Spit out what you need to spit out. To make roots stronger, words must be spoken.

Ray Hickson

Pluto is retrograde in Capricorn. Pluto is the planet whose major intent is that we get rich. The trick is, he’s not particularly interested in that richness having much to do with our bank balance. His is the richness of life experience. Consider what it takes to live a rich life – and live it!

AQUARIUS (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

The Gemini Sun fills you with hope, wonder and playfulness. A fresh breeze blows through your window – and your soul. If life wants to lift you up, let it. Allow yourself to carry all the weight of a feather. Be taken on the wings of adventure and change. Enter grace rather than gravity.

PISCES (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Pottery by Deb Oberhardt at Wallaby Ridge Retreat during Open Studios

Neptune goes retrograde this month. When a planet goes retrograde, or appears to go backwards in the sky, it generally means that its effects are more internal, or introspective, than external. Shifts happen in our psyche rather than in the world around us. Sift away a layer of illusion. © M.J.Dean 2014

On The Green - Canungra Area Golf Club With Wendy Brown and Kim Sami A ladies team from Canungra went to Tamborine Mountain’s Open Day. recently. They did well with Mary Groves and Wendy Brown in the Ball Run down. Wendy also won the Most Accurate Drive, (not the longest however). It was a lovely sunny day and they still had their usual pumpkin soup halfway round even tho’ it wasn’t cold and raining! Well done and many thanks to the Tamborine ladies for a great day.

Canungra Owls Soccer News By Bren Dalby

Should’ve asked someone else to write the column this month as I have been away having puppies! A trusty band of troops have taken control and the place is much more organised! Tremendous thanks to all involved and special mention to Layne Middis, Becky Bell-McNee and Alecia McCabe, without whom I would be lost! Great to see teams participating in carnivals, and congratulations to Colin Hasler and his hard working Under 10 team for an impressive performance at the Nerang Carnival on 18th May. They played really well and won three out of their first four games (losing to Surfers Paradise). They advanced on to the semi-finals and had to play Surfers again. The result was 1-1 at full time, though unfortunately they went down to Surfers in extra time. The boys arguably played their best game ever and should be proud that they were the only team to score against Surfers on the day (well done James!).

The Owls have been offered sponsorship for strips from Tom and Jess Mahony, Kate Raymont of Hinterland Harvest Catering, and Canungra Hotel.

Awaiting orders and printing for these to go on show. Huge thanks and much appreciation. Go the Owls !

Polo Continues at Elysian Fields

Elysian Field team in action. Photo: Chloe Pickard

By Chloe Pickard The first South East Queensland May 6 Goal tournament came to an end at Elysian Fields over the 24th - 25th May weekend with two matches to decide the winners and subsidiary winners. The tournament, organised by former property owner Michael King after he decided that polo should be played again at the fields, brought six teams from across South East Queensland to the Elysian Fields polo property during May. Each team played against the five other teams once, with the winning

teams moving onto the finals. The Elysian Fields team dominated the subsidiary finals, scoring 11 over the Stanbroke team’s four and coming third overall. In the finals Action Metal Recyclers, formerly known as the Wastecorp team, defeated the City Motor Auction 12 - 10 after a ferocious match. While the games were tense, the two hundred people from inside and outside the Scenic Rim who came to watch the matches on Sunday relaxed in the clubhouse, which is soon to be available for use as an event venue.

It has been a busy start of the polo season for Elysian Fields, with 28 games played in May already and more planned for August and September including a South East Queensland 10 Goal Tournament. Elysian Fields Horse manager Rob Ballard, who also plays on the team, invited people to come to future events. “Everyone’s welcome to come and watch,” he said. Go to the Queensland Polo Association website at http://www.queenslandpolo. com.au/ for more information on event times.
