The rapid development of technology today is transforming the nature of many industries, creating new challenges and opportunities for incumbents and disruptors alike. The ATM industry is no exception. What are these emerging technologies and what benefits and challenges will they bring to ATM? How will the region’s ANSPs be impacted and what should be the response if the region is to capitalise on the opportunities offered by this technological revolution? Guest Speaker: • Ms. Nancy Graham, President, Graham Aerospace International and former Director of the ICAO Air Navigation Bureau Facilitator: Mr. Hai Eng Chiang, Director Asia Pacific Affairs, CANSO

11:00-12:45 Leading Change in ATM This session will examine the role of ATM leaders in bringing about improvements to ATM performance within their ANSPs and in collaboration with neighbours and industry partners. While technology is a critical enabler of ATM performance, it is strategic vision and effective leadership that will make a real difference to the outcome. What is the role of ATM leadership in fostering an organisational mindset that embraces innovation and collaboration? What are the challenges faced by ATM leaders in driving technological change and how should they be managed? Panel members will give their views and share examples of success stories within their ANSPs and across boundaries working with neighbours and industry partners. • • • •

Facilitator: Mr. Hai Eng Chiang, Director Asia Pacific Affairs, CANSO 12:45-13:45 Lunch 13:45-15:00 Investing in ATM Infrastructure, Building Human Capital Today, the Asia Pacific region is the world's largest aviation market with eight of the world’s top 10 international city pairs. It is also the fastest growing region with traffic projected to grow by 5.3 percent over the next 25 years. Investing in ATM infrastructure and building human capital to meet traffic demand have never been more critical for the region's ANSPs. The panel will examine these issues and share how their ANSPs are responding to the challenges of high traffic growth in the midst of increasing operational and technological complexities. • • •

Mr. Arvind Singh, Chairman, Airports Authority of India Mr. Mokhammad Khatim, Ag President Director, AirNav Indonesia Representative of Dr. Pham Viet Dzung, Chairman, VATM

Facilitator: Mr. Hai Eng Chiang, Director Asia Pacific Affairs, CANSO 15:00-15:30 Networking Break 15:30-17:15 Smart Solutions in ATM - Leveraging Innovation and Technology The development of smart solutions to enhance ATM safety and efficiency is a combination of technology and human ingenuity. The panel will look at the innovative use of technology to solve some of the more complex problems confronting ATM today. Our experts will discuss their work in areas such as UAS/UTM, space-based ADS-B, man/machine interface, air traffic network capacity optimisation and open ATM system architecture. • • • • •

17:15-17:30 Closing Remarks and Announcement by Host of Next Year’s Conference •

Mr. Kevin Shum, Director-General, CAAS and Chair, Asia Pacific CANSO CEO Committee (APC3)

19:00-21:30 Conference Dinner APEC Heus Hosted by

THURSDAY 14 MAY 09:00-10:30 Sponsored Workshop Implementing Smart Digital Towers at remote as well as busy airports and moving towards the future ATM networks Smart digital towers are now being rolled out at an increasing rate around the globe. With the greater acceptance of towers going digital, how do we improve their implementation and deployment? What new challenges in terms of connectivity arise and how can ATM-grade networks mitigate them? Pioneering projects delivered the proof that ATC operations using smart digital towers are here to stay. So how can we speed up implementation of these technological changes to support the region's economic growth? What is the next big thing? In this workshop, expert speakers will talk about recent digital tower deployments and required key elements of the network. • •

Mr. Peter Gridling, Sales Director Frequentis DFS Aerosense, Frequentis Mr. Werner Messiner, Global Strategic Product Manager, Frequentis

Hosted and sponsored by 10:30-11:00 Networking Break 11:00-13:00 UAS/UTM Workshop A key challenge that the ATM industry is currently facing is the rapid growth of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and how best to incorporate UAS seamlessly, efficiently and safely into the global ATM system. The accelerating use of UAS for recreational, industrial and commercial purposes has led to the development of UAS traffic management (UTM) systems aimed at enabling UAS to safely operate and co-exist with current airspace users. What are some of the issues that ANSPs need to consider when integrating UAS into their airspace and the challenges to be overcome? Listen to our experts as they discuss this topic and share insight and examples of the technology and systems that are already in operation. Facilitator: Ms. Coleen Hawrysko Operations Programme Manager, CANSO 13:00-14:00 Lunch

14:00-15:30 Cyber Safety and Resilience workshop As ATM systems become more dependent on technology and information exchange it is important that States and ANSPs recognise the growing threat of cyber-attacks on their ATM systems and take steps to address and mitigate the risks. Vulnerabilities are growing because new generation ATM systems demand greater information sharing through increased use of commercial information technology and the sharing of computing networks and infrastructures. Given the critical role of ATM in ensuring flight safety and efficiency, what measures are needed to detect, respond to and recover from cyber security events? This workshop will focus on the following areas: • Cybersecurity and risk assessment • Development of a CANSO Cyber Maturity Model • Emergency response and planning best practice Facilitator: Mr. Shayne Campbell, Safety Programme Manager, CANSO 15:30-16:00 Networking Break 16:00-17:00 Cyber Safety and Resilience workshop – continued FRIDAY 15 MAY 08:00-16:00 Host Programme Join the host programme kindly hosted by PNG Air Services Ltd, where you will experience the beautiful city of Port Moresby. You can choose from two tour options: Amazing Port Moresby Tour You will embark on a tour to two key places of interest for visitor’s to Port Moresby; the National Museum and Art Gallery where you will get to see traditional masks, artefacts and carved wooden poles from the various cultures and tribes around Papua New Guinea. The Nature Park which is home to various flora and fauna unique to Papua New Guinea. You will get to see the iconic Bird of Paradise specie that is unique to the country and is its national symbol. Lunch will be held at Royal Papuan Yacht Club. Liquified Natural Gas Plant Site Tour It is anticipated that over time, Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) will play an increasingly significant role in fueling the world’s economic growth. There is also research being done on the use of LNG as a more sustainable, economical and environmentally friendly alternative fuel source for the aviation industry. Embark on an exciting tour of Papua New Guinea’s first LNG plant and learn about how LNG is collected, refined and exported to international markets as well as Papua New Guinea’s contribution to alleviating the world’s energy challenges towards a sustainable energy solution for the future. Lunch will be held at Royal Papuan Yacht Club.
