West Coast Acute Zone Nurse nominated for annual Kristy Morton Award
Acute Zone Nurse Manjula Edathil-Veedu was recently selected as an outstanding student and nominated for the annual Kristy Morton Award for achieving high standards while undertaking the College of Emergency Nurses New Zealand (CENNZ) triage course.
Manjula is an internationally qualified nurse who originates from Southern India. When she first migrated to New Zealand, she completed a Nursing Council of New Zealand accredited Competency Assessment Programme (CAP) in Palmerston North to gain registration to work as a nurse in New Zealand.
Manjula says: “When I first joined Te Nīkau Hospital’s Acute Zone team, I was a little nervous as aside from learning a new culture, I also had to embrace a new work environment. I needn’t have worried as my colleagues have been amazingly supportive.”
Clinical Nurse Manager – Acute Zone Sharon Gamble says: “I couldn’t be prouder of Manjula’s achievements as since joining our Acute Zone team two years ago, she has embraced on-the-job learning opportunities whenever possible. Her achievements are also a reflection of the supportive learning environment that the team fosters and provides, along with our Workforce Development colleagues.”
The successful recipient of this year’s Kristy Morton Award will be announced at the upcoming CENNZ conference in October.
