It’s hard to ignore a statement like this: “If you don’t know that you’re the new Texas, you don’t know what’s going on.” That was from Eric Mize of M3 Momentum on June 11 at Walsh University. Mize was commenting on the fastgrowing impact of the shale oil and gas business in Ohio’s Utica, and he was one of four presenters from major Utica Shale midstream companies who presented at our Midstream Ohio 2014 seminar, part of our Utica Capital Series Presented by Huntington Bank. Also on the program were Brent Breon from Caiman Energy-Blue Racer Partnership in Uniontown, which is employing 900 construction workers on pipeline projects and another 250 on construction of gas processing plants in the Utica. If you have any doubt about the potential of the Utica, you may want to consider that Blue Racer is constructing three cryogenic processing plants in the Utica, plants that separate methane from the natural gas liquids such as ethane and propane. Each of those three plants can process 200 million cubic feet of gas per day. Adam Beck, project manager with Access Midstream in North Canton, talked about Access’ plans to invest $1.8 billion in midstream infrastructure before 2015 comes to an end. That includes 148 miles of pipeline costing $400 million and 19 compression units (to maintain adequate pressure in the pipelines) at a cost of $125 million. Access and its partners, M3 and EV Partners, built the massive Harrison Hub fractionating plant in Scio, Harrison County, in just 13 months to meet the growing demand for gas processing. Mark Butta with EnLink Midstream showed how his company approaches the Utica. It offers truck, rail and river barge transport to quickly get Utica gas energy to processing in the Gulf Coast. EnLink operates the Black Run rail terminal at Frazeysburg, Ohio, the Bells Run barge port on the Ohio River in Washington County, and a 120-vehicle truck fleet that can transport Utica products on the highways.

ENSHRINEMENT FESTIVAL Prizes to be Awarded for Enshrinement Festival Photo Contest Cash prizes will be awarded in the 2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival’s 26th annual Photo Contest. Snapshot enthusiast or professional photographer? All are invited to enter by taking photos at any of the outdoor Enshrinement Festival events beginning July 18 through Aug. 4. Awards will be made in both the professional and nonprofessional categories, and some of the winning photos may be used in future Enshrinement Festival publications. Due to the generous support of the Western Reserve Group, cash prizes for the contest total $1,800, and $100 prizes may be awarded to each of the seven first place photos chosen from professional and non-professional divisions in the following categories: Balloon Classic/ Jackson Belden Food Fest & Fireworks, Concert and Fireworks, Pigskin Run (including the Kids Fun Run), Community Parade, Ribs Burnoff, TimkenSteel Grand Parade, and Drum Corps International Competition Tour of Champions. ENSHRINEMENT FESTIVAL Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Announces Emcees The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival is pleased to announce emcees for the Fashion Show Luncheon on Friday, August 1, and TimkenSteel Grand Parade on Saturday, August 2. Stefani Schaefer, co-anchor of Fox 8 News in the Morning, will emcee this year’s Fashion Show Luncheon on Friday, August 1, and it promises to be a high energy production. An Alliance native, she is a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School and University of Mount Union where she was an All-American Scholar and a National Collegiate Academic Honoree. While in high school, she was a featured vocalist for the Enshrinement ceremonies and she has sung the National Anthem for the Game, so she truly has a soft spot in her heart for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. She first started at WJW Fox 8 in Cleveland in 1992, then took a hiatus to pursue

other opportunities including hosting a national network show broadcast out of Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. In 2007, she returned to WJW Fox 8, and in 2008, she was inducted into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame. In 2012, she was named Cleveland’s Favorite News Anchor and Favorite News Team. Football and fashion might seem like an unlikely mix, but it’s a perfect fit for the nearly 3,200 guests who enjoy the event that includes state-of-the-art sound, lighting, and video to showcase male and female models featuring the season’s hottest fashions. An exclusive bridal scene will be a new element in this year’s show, and all the fashions will be enhanced by the excitement of several performances by Jeff Timmons of 98º. After 12 years, he moved to CBS where he stayed until his retirement after the 2013 season, and in April 2014, he was introduced as the new color analyst for the football radio broadcasts at his alma mater, the Michigan Wolverines. Dierdorf was the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Early the next morning on Saturday, August 2, Schaefer will join Dan Dierdorf as co-commentators for the TimkenSteel Grand Parade. Stefani and Dan teamed up as co-commentators in 1999 and 2000, then again last year. A Canton native and 1996 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Dierdorf will bring his extensive knowledge of the game to the parade broadcast for the 16th consecutive year. After a stint with the Canton/Stark County Convention & Visitors’ Bureau, he became Director of Sports Marketing at the University of Akron and is currently Vice President of Sales at Big Time Sports, a regional company producing sports talk shows and featuring high school sports coverage. ENSHRINEMENT FESTIVAL Chamber and Hall Announce Key Chairs Game | Corporate Host | Community Parade | Appreciation Party | Food The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival department of Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Pro Football Hall of Fame have named the following key committee chairs: Mark Prosise, Game; Mike Lancaster, Corporate Host; Carol McLaughlin, Community Parade; Rose Ann Manzella, Appreciation Party; and Dean Kahler, Food. Prosise is owner of A Child’s Place Nursery School, and a graduate of Jackson High School, Bowling Green State University, and Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He has served on the Game committee since 1999, and this is his fourth consecutive year as chairman. An active Hall of Fame volunteer for the past 21 years, he has also served on the Autograph and Enshrinement committees. Prosise is past-president of the Jackson Township Community Improvement Corporation. He and wife Sandra have two sons, Eric and Ryan.
Lancaster is president of NewMarket Financial Advisors. He has been an active Enshrinement Festival volunteer since 1976, serving as a ball-boy for the Hall of Fame Game as a youngster, and previously serving as chairman of the NFL Experience Committee. He supports other community activities as a member of the Stark County Board of Health and Walsh University Planned Giving Committee, is a member of the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club, and a graduate of Leadership Stark County. He and wife Susan are the proud parents of one son and one daughter. This year, he chairs the Corporate Host Committee for the fourth consecutive year, leading the effort to provide increased hospitality services and support to corporate sponsors and their guests during the Enshrinement Festival events. He will be assisted by Steve Neisel as committee vice-chairman.
McLaughlin is a Dalton High School graduate who has worked in the human resource, staffing and recruiting industry for over 20 years. During her career, she has recruited, interviewed and on-boarded thousands of employees for Stark County area businesses. In 2013, she received the Customer Service Referral Award and in 2009 received the Performance Forum Award for superior customer service and business development. She is currently employed with CEA Commercial Equipment Advertising as an Account Executive, and serves as a student leadership volunteer for Kent State University at Stark and Stark State College. She is a member of the Stark County Human Resource Association and their Diversity and Inclusion Committee, a former member of the National Human Resource Association, and a current active volunteer for Community Harvest. Under the direction of Prosise, with assistance from vice chairman Traci Tsai, the Game Committee is responsible for timing and coordination of the pre-game and halftime activities during the NFL/ Hall of Fame Game, to be held at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3, featuring the Buffalo Bills vs. New York Giants before a sold-out stadium and national television audience on NBC “Sunday Night Football.” The game also will be broadcast on Westwood One.

Manzella is a graduate of Bishop McDonnell High School and St. Joseph College, both in Brooklyn, New York. She has been a member of the Appreciation Party Committee for 17 years, and this is her first as chairman. A Eucharistic minister at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, she is married to husband Dennis. The Appreciation Party is a non-public event held to show gratitude to the generous sponsors and team of more than 4,200 dedicated community volunteers who provide the resources and support to make the annual Enshrinement Festival such a huge success. Chris Scarpino is serving as committee vice-chair.
Kahler is a graduate of East Canton High School and Kent State University and also studied at Ohio University. He is retired but stays active by participating in many area running events, including the Enshrinement Festival’s 5-Mile Race in the wheelchair division. He has been active with the Ohio Education Association, as former treasurer of the Tri-County Teachers Association, and with the Hocking Watershed District. In 1987, he was named the Athens County Elected Official of the Year.

ENSHRINEMENT FESTIVAL 51 YEARS OF HONORING THE LEGENDS OF PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL The Herculean effort called for back in 1959 still exists today on an annual basis, with 4,200 extraordinary community volunteers and the professional staffs of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and Pro Football Hall of Fame planning and staging the events that surround the central focus of the entire celebration: the Enshrinement of football players, coaches, and contributors into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Join us this year for what is sure to be a “One of a Kind Celebration” in the community that started it all. It all began on December 9, 1959, when an article appeared in The Canton Repository heralding a home for pro football. The article made the argument for our community—the birthplace of professional football—but to make the Hall of Fame a reality in Canton, the article called for “a combined Herculean effort on the part of civic and sports leaders, industry, and perhaps more important, just plain fans.” Our community answered that challenge, and just three months later, Canton, Ohio, was named the official site of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame opened its doors to the public on September 7, 1963, along with the induction of the inaugural class of 17, and four Enshrinement Festival events were held that same year as a way to feed and entertain the Enshrinees and their families while they were in town. Over the years, the Hall of Fame has enjoyed five expansions, most recently The “Future 50” Expansion and Renovation Project which was completed in the summer of 2013. It was the largest in Hall history at a cost of $27 million and paves the way for success in the next 50 years. Likewise, the Enshrinement Festival has grown from just four events that first year to 24 events today, experienced over two and half weeks by nearly 700,000 people, and resulting in an economic impact of nearly $32 million for Canton/Stark County, and $56 million for the State of Ohio.

Participants cross the finish line where legends live at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, providing a super high-energy atmosphere and wonderful photo opportunities. Community Parade (Sunday, July 27): Enjoy an afternoon in the heart of downtown Canton with family and friends. A wide array of community youth groups, marching bands, antique vehicles, specialty units and a giant helium balloon participate in this spirit-filled community parade. Ribs Burnoff (Wednesday, July 30 through Friday, Aug. 1): Enjoy finger-lickin’ fabulous ribs from local and national vendors, plus a variety of specialty foods. Family-friendly entertainment includes a master sand sculptor and face painting – and the chance to show your punt, pass, and kick skills at the Fantasy Football Zone of interactive inflatables. Then head for the grandstands for nationally renowned recording artists Blue Öyster Cult on Wednesday, July 30th; Jana Kramer on Thursday, July 31st and Pop Evil on Friday, August 1st. First Play (Thursday, July 31): First Play officially kicks off the final weekend of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival. The event features nearly 1,500 children as they toss an official NFL football from one participant to the next along a three-mile route. The route begins at the iconic location where the NFL was founded, the Frank T. Bow Building in downtown Canton, to its final destination, the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Hall of Famer Photo Op (Friday, August 1): A gathering of the game’s immortals for a one-of-a-kind photo on the front steps of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The public is invited to this free event, and are encouraged to document the moment

the Signature Program did. Unfortunately, I also learned about the bad as well as the good. Yet as each month passed, I dove deeper into the unique components of our county and found myself more and more engaged, searching for a way to find where I fit, where I might get involved and help. Through the Signature Program Stark County Day bus tour, I gained a broader perspective of our community and now feel a personal attachment I had not felt to date. Understanding how our leaders are connected, be it through board membership or volunteering, I realized that the effort required to make our community stronger requires the participation of every one of those individuals – not just one. The Signature Program breaks down barriers, disbands title and position, and motivates you to grow both professionally and personally. It prepares you to be better citizens and be involved so that you can make a difference. You look forward to each session and are disappointed when each individual day concludes. I would recommend participation in the Leadership Stark County Signature Program to any individual who is excited by reading my reflection.

Name: Adam Harding Age: 33 Occupation/Title/Place of work: Quality Coordinator/Data Analyst at AultCare Why are you interested Canton’s Young Professionals initiative? It’s an excellent way to meet people and get involved in the community. What is your impression of ystark!, what do you think of their events, etc.? I have found that ystark! has a ton of great events. From community service to networking, meeting local CEOs and all the competitive events like dodgeball and PerplexCity, it really has something for everyone.
Where did you grow up? In what cities have you lived and worked?

I grew up in Perry Township behind the old Doctors Hospital. I’ve lived in Perry, Akron, Massillon, Perry and Jackson… in that order. My first job was as a newspaper carrier for the Repository. In high school I bagged groceries for Fishers and during summers in college I worked in the ice cream room at Superior Dairy. My only job after college has been at AultCare for going on 10 years now.
What’s missing from Canton that would attract more YPs?
Why have you chosen to live in Canton? I grew up here and it’s always been home to me. Not to mention this area has so much to offer within a 20 minute drive. What type of dwelling do you live in? What do you think of the housing choices for YPs in the Canton area? I own a home in Jackson with my wife and my son. There are some great housing choices for YPs in the area. Houses are very affordable, and with the new downtown living being planned, it should rejuvenate the heart of Canton. What do you like MOST about Canton? I love how the city comes together for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival. I don’t think there is another city in the US that can round up 4,200 volunteers and host a two-week national festival like Canton.
More downtown living and jobs. What do you do in the evenings or on the weekends for fun in Canton? I always joke around that I play a bunch of 3rd grade sports. I’m on a kickball, dodgeball and softball team. Canton offers a lot of great rec leagues. What would you change about Canton if you could? For the Browns to play one of their preseason games at Fawcett Stadium. Could you see yourself spending your lifetime in Canton? That’s the plan. What would cause you to want to leave Canton? What other cities in the United States would be appealing to you as a home base? Why? I don’t think I would leave Canton. It’s an affordable place to buy a house and raise a family. People always want to move to a big city, but big city living = big city prices.
What do you like LEAST about Canton? When people don’t take advantage of everything Canton has to offer; there is always so much going on in this community. What are the opportunities for YPs in Canton when it comes to career opportunities, cultural access, leadership or community involvement opportunities? I’m involved with ystark!, the Enshrinement Festival, Junior Achievement and Taste of the NFL, just to name a few. If someone is looking to

Part 2 of our series on drug usage in our community Moderator: Steering Committee Member Curt Werren Common Pleas Judge & SCSC Steering Committee Member Curt Werren The panel for July includes: Keith Hochadel, President & CEO, Quest Recovery and Prevention Services Jackie Pollard, Director of Clinical Services ,Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Stark County Fran Gerbig, Prevention Coordinator, Stark Mental Health and Recovery Service Board of Stark County This panel of three chemical dependence professionals will discuss how the current prescription drug/opiate epidemic impacts the workforce and workforce environment. Panelists will be on hand to discuss current trends, ways to identify substance abuse at the workplace, and drug free workplace issues. Additionally, the panelists will discuss substance use issues from a prevention specialist perspective. Keith Hochadel is the current President / CEO of Quest Recovery & Prevention Services. He has been with Quest since March 2008, holding positions of counselor, Clinical Director, Chief Operating Officer before moving into current position in May 2012. Received B.S. Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University in 2004 and is a graduate of Malone University’s Master Program in Clinical Counseling. He considers his areas of practice focus on program development, counselor supervision, psychopharmacology, medication assisted treatment and recovery, and family systems. Jackie Pollard is a Professional Clinical Counselor with supervisory endorsement, a Licensed Social Worker and a Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor. She is currently employed by the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Stark County as Director of Clinical Services. As such, she provides oversight to the development of mental health and alcohol and drug prevention, intervention and treatment services for children, youth, and adults living in Stark County. She has worked in the past as
a mental health therapist, and alcohol and drug counselor with individuals and families and specializes in working with people with severe mental illness and substance use disorders. Fran Gerbig, MPH, OCPS I, is the Prevention Coordinator for the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Stark County. In this position she manages the efforts of the Stark County Anti-Drug Coalition as it works to develop and implement environmental strategies as well as community education efforts to prevent the use alcohol, tobacco products and other drugs among Stark County youth and young adults. Gerbig holds a Master of Public Health, in health planning and administration from the University of Tennessee and a B.A. from the University of Akron. As part of the Stark County Safety Council’s series on drug epidemic in our community, the Council will be hosting a “prescription drop-off drive” at the July 12th Stark County Safety Council luncheon. Stark County Deputies will be on hand to collect and properly dispose of expired and unused medicines. Storing unwanted, expired and unused medicines can lead to drug abuse or poisoning, and medicines flushed down the drain or disposed of in the trash can harm the environment. All pharmaceutical drugs in the form of pills, creams and liquids are accepted. Needles and syringes are not accepted. BIZ BITZ The Massillon Development Foundation is pleased to announce the hiring of a new Executive Director. Mr. Ray Hexamer has accepted the position effective June 1, 2014. Ray Hexamer was the CEO, Board Member, and shareholder of First Communications, a telecommunications company providing voice and internet services for business from 2005 to the end of 2013 after a successful sale of the Company. Hexamer and his team generated over $200 million in public and bank funding and completed nine acquisitions at First Communications. Hexamer was responsible for leading an IPO of the Company in 2007 making over 100 investor presentations in Europe and the US which culminated in a successful listing on the AIM/London Stock Exchange. First Communications shareholders at the time included: The Gores Group of Beverly Hills a 2.7 billion dollar equity fund, FirstEnergy in Akron and McKinley Communications in Canton, Ohio. Day Ketterer is pleased to announce that Thomas A. Mason was recently award the 2014 Business Excellence Scholarship Award by Day Ketterer in conjunction with the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce. The Scholarship was presented at the annual Business Excellence Award ceremony on May 6, 2014. Mason, a 2014 graduate of Marlington High School and son of Scott and Sheryl Mason of Alliance, submitted the winning essay titled, “The Impact of Business and Free Enterprise on the Continuing Success of the United States as Global Leader.” Submissions were open to all Stark County High School seniors and those currently enrolled at a Stark County University or College. A group of 34 individual “angel” investors from Stark County and surrounding areas plan to form the Impact Angel Fund, which aims to invest in high-tech startup companies across the southern portion of Northeast Ohio – from Mansfield to Canton to Youngstown. The group received a $1 million loan from the Ohio Third Frontier economic development program. Fund members are adding $1 million of their own money into the fund as well. The group plans to invest a few hundred thousand dollars in up to five or six companies through the fund, in addition to sidecar investments individual members make in those companies. Historically, Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) has billed Ohio employers in arrears or ‘retrospectively.’ Employers currently report their actual payroll and pay their premium on a semiannual basis for the previous six months of coverage. Prospective billing is a national industry standard and builds upon

ongoing efforts by BWC to modernize its operation. Under prospective billing, BWC will, like most insurance companies, collect employer premiums at the beginning of and throughout the policy period. According to BWC the benefits of changing to the prospective payment process for Ohio employers will include: More flexible payment options (e.g., monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and annually) with possible discounts for those who pay in advance. Better ability to anticipate budgetary impacts of workers’ compensation program cost changes. Better opportunities for BWC to provide quotes online or via phone. Lower mutualized costs from employers who don’t pay premiums timely or have workers injured without coverage for employers in good standing. Increases BWC’s ability to detect employer non-compliance and fraud. The transition is expected to become effective July 1, 2015, for private employers and January 1, 2016, for public employers. The Aultman Foundation has announced 19 area nonprofit organizations will receive the organization’s fourteenth round of grant funding totaling just over $100,000. The grants are structured to help further The Aultman Foundation’s mission by funding local agencies’ projects and services in Stark, Wayne, Holmes, Carroll and Tuscarawas counties. Thomas Kratzer, Ph.D., professor of business administration at Malone University, was awarded the Business, Society and Government (BSG) Consortium’s Best Paper Award for
2014. The paper, “Ethical reflections on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) in the food supply” will be published in the 2014 Business, Society, and Government Conference proceedings as well as the Consortium’s website. In addition, Malone University is pleased to announce that D. Nathan Phinney, Ph.D. dean of the College of Theology, Arts, and Sciences, is one of 32 mid-level administrators in higher education nationwide selected by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) to participate in a year-long Senior Leadership Academy. Individuals chosen for the program are administrators in higher education who have been identified by their institutions as having the potential for senior leadership positions in independent colleges or universities. Radio station WDJQ/WDPN is proud to announce Penny Watson has joined the sales staff at the radio stations as an account executive. Penny comes to the stations after a successful 18 year career as a sales manager and director of sales at the Holiday Inn Belden Village. She has been recognized as the Janus Hotels and Resorts Director of Sales of the Year having won the award in 1999, 2002 and 2005. She was also recognized as Maintaining Top Account Award recipient in 2001 from the Janus Hotels and resorts group. Along with her strong professional credentials, Penny is a community leader and serves on the board of directors for the Jackson/Belden Chamber of Commerce and has served on the Stark County Convention and Visitors Bureau Board as well. In honor of retiring Timken President/CEO and former Mount Union board member James W. Griffith, The Timken Company Charitable and Education Fund along with the Timken Foundation, have established a scholarship for one engineering student at the University of Mount Union each year. Beginning in the fall of 2015, The James W. Griffith Endowed Scholarship will recognize Griffith’s professional accomplishments and the value he places on education as well as provide an incentive for an outstanding Stark County student to continue his/her education in the county. Over the last decade, Griffith has served as a Mount Union trustee. During this time, he and his wife, Pamela, have generously created the Chinese Language and Culture Initiative at Mount Union as well as invested in Mount Union’s new health and medical science facility, Gallaher Hall, by naming the “Jennifer Griffith Weber Nursing Center” in honor of his daughter who graduated from Mount Union in 1997.
