Canton, Jackson-Belden Chamber Merger: Membership Vote Set for August 16 The Boards of Directors of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Jackson-Belden Chamber of Commerce believe that a merged organization will strengthen our membership services, benefits and programming and increase our impact on businesses and the broader community. Since last year, executives and volunteer leaders at both chambers have been studying ways that the two organizations could collaborate more extensively for the good of the region’s businesses and the community that the two chambers serve. We are happy to report that the Boards of Directors from both organizations have unanimously approved moving the merger process forward. The next step for the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce membership is to attend a Special Membership Meeting on AUGUST 16, 2016, during which the key contact for each member business or organization will have the opportunity to vote on the merger. The Canton Farmers’ Market is a producers-only market that provides consumers with an opportunity to buy fresh, quality products at reasonable prices directly from local growers in Northeast Ohio. Along with produce, the market offers baked goods, flowers, honey, syrups, artisan bread, cheese, eggs, meat, and more! The market runs every Saturday through October 1 and is located at the Nadine McIlwain Administrative Center parking lot at the corner of Fourth St. NW and McKinley Ave. NW. Per the Canton Regional Chamber’s bylaws, we are required to give at least 10 days official notice of the August 16 Membership Meeting, which we will do via mail. The official notice will contain complete merger details. If your organization’s key contact cannot attend the August 16 meeting, they may submit a proxy vote.
“The combined organization proposed in the merger plan will represent a level of service, business interests, and economic growth that is unprecedented for Stark County,” said Dennis P. Saunier, president and CEO of the Canton Regional Chamber. The Boards’ decisions to proceed follow a deliberative process conducted by consultant David Ramey, president of Strategic Leadership Associates. The official merger process began in November 2015 and included a series of forums in April and June to gain the feedback of both sets of Board members and Chamber members. At these forums, the comprehensive merger plan was presented, and members had the opportunity to provide comments or questions.

OIL & GAS July Oil and Gas News The biggest news in oil and gas came one day before our June 8 Utica Midstream seminar. Royal Dutch Shell announced that it was going ahead with construction of its ethane cracker in Beaver County, Pa. An ethane cracker may be the ultimate downstream development in the Utica. It turns abundant ethane gas into polyethylene. This is a versatile feedstock for the plastics industry. Could plastic manufacturing grow in Ohio because raw materials are being created in the region? Growth is anticipated, to be sure. Despite the many millions of dollars Shell already had spent to acquire and prepare its Beaver County site over the last few years, there was no guarantee that Shell would commit. It is a global energy company that makes its investments in billion-dollar amounts. In fact, the unofficial estimates on the cost of the Shell cracker generally settle in at about $6 billion. Shell Chemical Appalachia, the subsidiary in charge of the cracker plant, predicts 6,000 construction jobs when work begins in about 18 months. It expects 600 permanent employees when the plant begins operation early in the next decade. It anticipates production of 1.6 tons of polyethylene per year.

Meanwhile, Ohio awaits a favorable announcement about the PTT GC cracker that is planned for Belmont County. The company has created a website to share information about its proposed plant: http://pttgcbelmontcountyoh.com. That brings us to Utica Summit on Oct. 11, our annual downstream seminar and the last program in our Utica series for 2016. We are working to attract speakers that can talk about either or both of these cracker projects. We also are seeking commitments from other manufacturers and transportation interests that are finding ways to turn Utica energy into long-term, sustainable jobs for the region.

About Tim Shetzer, CEO, YMCA of Central Stark County Since 1997, Tim has been CEO of YMCA of Central Stark County, this year seeing its sesquicentennial anniversary (150 years). He also worked at the YMCA in Des Moines, Iowa, as well as overseas at the Jerusalem International YMCA. A graduate of the College of Wooster, Shetzer then went on to earn his master’s degree from North Carolina State University. The ten Stark County YMCA community branches serve over 70,000 constituents every year through 1,000 different programs. The YMCA helps over 12,000 youth and families to receive financial assistance each year. The YMCA stands for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Appreciation Party • Balloon Classic/Jackson-Belden Music Fest & Fireworks • Game • Hotel Ambassadors The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival department of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Pro Football Hall of Fame have named the following key committee chairs: Christine Scarpino, Appreciation Party; Casey Weisend, Balloon Classic and Todd Hawke, Jackson-Belden Music Fest & Fireworks; Traci Tsai, NFL/Hall of Fame Game; and Agatha Johnson, Hotel Ambassadors. Scarpino is a graduate of Canton South High School and currently attends Stark State. She is employed by Evolent Health as a pharmacy government programs operations specialist and is a member of the Canton Local Board of Education and Canton South Academic Booster Club. She has served on the Appreciation Party Committee since 2008, and this is her first year as chairman. She and husband Chris are the proud parents of two. Scarpino will be assisted by vice chairman Patience Rush in planning the Appreciation Party, a non-public event for the 4,500 volunteers and family of generous sponsors who make the annual Enshrinement Festival activities such a success. Weisend, owner of Salon Mystique and Salon Suites located in Canton, Ohio, is a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School and National Beauty College. This is his second year as Chairman of the Balloon Classic committee. Before becoming Chairman, he served as the sub-committee chairman for vendors. He and wife Jennifer are the proud parents of three children.

Weisend will be assisted in the planning and staging of the Balloon Classic by vice chairman Keith Bennett. This year the Balloon Classic and Jackson-Belden Music Fest activities will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 29, 30 and 31. The Music Fest Committee is chaired this year by Todd Hawke, principal at GDK & Company, and also currently serving as a Jackson Township Trustee. He is a graduate of Kenton Ridge High School and Ohio Wesleyan University and has served in various capacities on the Food Fest Committee since 2002. He is actively involved in the community and serves on the boards of the JacksonBelden Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement of East Central Ohio, and American Cancer Society of Stark County. Todd and wife Tricia have one son and one daughter. Hawke will be assisted in the planning and staging by vice chairman Carles Moore, and there will be a wide variety of food, beverages, and music. As always, there will be a Balloon Glow on Friday night and a spectacular fireworks show to conclude Saturday’s activities. Tsai is a graduate of University of Mount Union and Walsh University and is a supervising therapist at Pathway Caring for Children. As a member of the American Counseling Association, she presented at two national conferences. She serves on the board of Friends of the Children’s Network and is president of Diva Boosters. She served on the Enshrinement Festival Hostess Committee for two years, and has
been a member of the Game Committee since 2000, with this her first year as chairman. She and husband David have two sons and two daughters. With assistance from vice chairman Ben Stoffer, the Game Committee will be responsible for timing and coordination of the pre-game and halftime activities during the NFL/Hall of Fame Game, to be held at 8:00 pm on Sunday, Aug. 7 featuring the Indianapolis Colts vs. Green Bay Packers before a sold-out stadium and national television audience on ESPN. The game also will be broadcast on Westwood One. Johnson, a Canton native, is a graduate of McKinley High School, received an associate degree from Canton Actual Business College, and attended Malone University. She serves as community sanctions officer for the Canton Municipal Court, has served on a wide variety of Enshrinement Festival committees, and is a year-round volunteer at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A graduate of Leadership Stark County, she is a lifetime member of the NAACP, and serves on the Greater Canton Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, Fair Housing Commission of Canton, United Way Allocation Committee, Turnaround Community Outreach, and Jane Hunter Civic Club. She is on the Boards of many community organizations, including Canton YWCA, Players Guild, and Palace Theatre. The proud parent of one son and two daughters, she has two grandchildren. She and vice chairman Karl Heege will work with a team of volunteers who will be located at designated official hotels and serve as ambassadors for the friends and family of the Class of 2016 by answering questions and assisting with ticket and transportation details.

ENSHRINEMENT FESTIVAL Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Names 2016 Committee Chairs Concert for Legends • Drum Corps International The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival department of Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce has named the following key committee chairs: Dennis Manzella, Concert for Legends; and Karen Miller, Drum Corps International Competition. Manzella, a New York native, graduated from St. John’s University and New York University and is currently serving as assistant vice president of marketing for Western Reserve Group. He is a member of PIA of Indiana, and Big “I” Agent Association of Ohio and Indiana. A long-time, dedicated Enshrinement Festival volunteer, he previously chaired the Appreciation Party and Security and Logistics Committees and has served on the Enshrinement and
Game Committees; this is his first year as chairman of the Concert Committee. He is married to wife Rose Ann. This year’s Enshrinement Festival will feature more legends than ever, with country superstar Tim McGraw performing at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in this 2nd annual Concert for Legends on Friday, August 5th! Dan Paumier will assist Manzella as committee vice chairman. Miller, owner/ principal of KMD Associates, was born in Coshocton, Ohio, and is a graduate of Dover High School and Kent State University. She has served on the Drum Corps committee for four years, with this her
second as chairman. She is married to Tom Dillie and has one son. The 2016 DCI Tour of Champions, presented by the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival and Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps will be held on Monday, August 8 at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon, just one week away from the international championships in Indianapolis. The Tour of Champions event series consists of exciting live entertainment featuring the following top world class corps: Bluecoats (Canton, OH); Blue Knights (Denver, CO); Carolina Crown (Ft. Prizes to be Awarded for Enshrinement Festival Photo Contest Cash prizes will be awarded in the 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival’s 28th annual Photo Contest. Snapshot enthusiast or professional photographer? All are invited to enter by taking photos at any of the outdoor Enshrinement Festival events beginning July 24 through September 10. Awards will be made in both the professional and non-professional categories, and some of the winning photos may be used in future Enshrinement Festival publications.

Due to the generous support of the Western Reserve Group, cash prizes for the contest total $1,800, and $100 prizes may be awarded to each of the six first place photos chosen from professional and non-professional divisions in the following categories: Community Parade, Balloon Classic/Jackson-Belden Music Fest & Fireworks, Drum Corps International Competition Tour of Champions, The Canton Repository Grand Parade, Canton Kickoff Celebration, and Gold Jacket 5K National Championship. ENSHRINEMENT FESTIVAL 53 Years of Honoring the Legends of Professional Football and Celebrating Excellence! It all began on December 9, 1959, when an article appeared in The Canton Repository heralding a home for pro football. The article made the argument for our community—the birthplace of professional football—but to make the Hall of Fame a reality in Canton, the article called for “a combined Herculean effort on the part of civic and sports leaders, industry, and perhaps more important, just plain fans.” Our community answered that challenge, and just three months later, Canton, Ohio, was named the official site of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame opened its doors to the public on September 7, 1963, along with the induction of the inaugural class of 17, and four Enshrinement Festival events were held that same year as a way to feed and entertain the Enshrinees and their families while they were in town. Over the past 53 years, the museum and the festival have both grown significantly. And, the Herculean effort called for back in 1959 still exists today on an annual basis, with 4,500 extraordinary community volunteers and the professional staffs of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and Pro Football Hall of Fame planning and staging the events that surround the central focus of the entire celebration: the Enshrinement of football players, coaches, and contributors into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Join us this year for what is sure to be a “Celebration of Excellence” in the community that started it all.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Queen Pageant Thursday, May 5 Young women from Stark County and surrounding communities compete for the title of Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Queen. The queen and court help to welcome the current Class of Enshrinees to Canton for the festivities, but more importantly, they serve as goodwill ambassadors and role models for youngsters in the community while volunteering their time for a wide variety of civic organizations. Community Parade Sunday, July 24 Enjoy an afternoon in the heart of downtown Canton with family and friends. A wide array of community youth groups, marching bands, antique vehicles, specialty units and a giant helium balloon participate in this spirit-filled community parade. Balloon Classic/Jackson-Belden Music Fest and Fireworks Friday, July 29 – Sunday, July 31 Join in the fun and excitement as 53 hot air balloons take flight! This awesome spectacle delights approximately 130,000 spectators over three days. This program is for young professionals in their early 20’s to early 30’s, who are ready to take their career and community involvement to the next level. It is a great option for employers to enhance leadership potential and build leadership competencies in young professionals. The Pro Football Hall of Fame Card Collection exhibit will give guests visiting the Pro Football Hall of Fame this summer an extraordinarily rare glimpse at football history when the Hunt/Casterline Pro Football Hall of Fame Card Collection exhibit opens this July; the highest graded and most valuable football card collection in the world. Aultman named Employee of the Year at its annual Employee Recognition Dinner, May 12. The award went to Abram Klaserner. He began his career as a physical therapist at Aultman in 2003 and has been an integral part of the Aultman Therapy Services team from the start. Earlier this year, Klaserner also won a “You Make A Difference Award” for his commitment to his patients. He is very involved in his department, running monthly training meetings and serving as the therapy council chair. Klaserner is requested on a regular basis to give various talks and trainings, too. “Abram exceeds expectations and consistently goes above and beyond – he genuinely exemplifies what an Aultman employee should be,” said Sue Olivera, vice president of human resources. “We are lucky to have such an outstanding employee and leader here at Aultman!” With over 800 employees in attendance, many others were recognized including two Golden Anniversaries honoring 50 years of service, Keys to Success and Rising Star award winners. 2016 Weatherhead 100, a recognition awarded by Case Western Reserve University, is accepting applications for this year’s awards. Since 1988, these prestigious awards have acknowledged and honored the 100 fastest growing companies leading the way in Northeast Ohio.
