Training Leaders & Advancing Stark County Signature Program:
Graduates of the 10-month, in-depth course in Stark County’s resources and issues, leadership, and community connections are well qualified to step into a variety of leadership roles.
Spotlight Stark County:
Provides an introduction to personal leadership development and community trusteeship for young professionals through the Strengths Finder model.
Government Leadership Academy:
The 6-week program for elected leaders and aspiring candidates helps to examine leadership styles, effective decision making, ethics and regional cooperation.
Encounter Bus Tour:
A one-day whirlwind trip across the county provides a geographic, economic, and historic introduction to Stark County’s people and communities.

2010-2011 Fiscal Leadership Using Funds to Further Community Trusteeship Tuition assistance is one way Leadership Stark County insures diverse classes and the participation of all segments of the community. Our Scholarship Endowment, housed at the Stark Community Foundation, has grown to $131,166 since its inception in 1999 with nearly $100,00 in grants. • In 2010 $4,975 in tuition assistance was awarded for participants in the Signature Class, Government Academy and Spotlight Stark County class for younger professionals. •We have given out $46,643 in scholarships to date.
Letter from the Director In fulfilling our mission to develop a core of motivated leaders, Leadership Stark County has become the go-to resource for identifying board members for local non-profits. Through strategic planning at the board level, LSC has strengthened our curriculums and developed measurable targets to ensure we are efficient, effective, and sustainable.

Alumni and Business Support Combine to Meet Financial Goals Stark County businesses, individuals, and LSC alumni helped to meet the 2010 Annual Fund and Sponsorship Program goals. • Total funds raised in 2010 was $73,719 • The average alumni gift for 2010 was $75 • Corporate support topped $50,000 in 2010. Increase participants’ involvement in the community.
Accomplishment: Signature Program committee chairs ensure that the curriculum includes components of board service, preparing class members who increased their board service by 100% within six months of graduation (23rd Class).
Offer training and education to the community. Accomplishment: Nearly 100 current and newly elected non-profit board members and LSC alumni attended the Building Better Boards seminar in January 2011 at The Timken Company.
Actively involve young professionals in Stark County. Accomplishments: Spotlight Stark County offered a “speed boarding” process in which 20 non-profit organizations participated with 19 young professionals for board shadowing and mentoring.
Match talented individuals with non-profits for board service.
Accomplishment: Ten Timken employees and eight 23rd Class members were referred to non-profit boards through a partnership with The Timken Company and Business Volunteers Unlimited of Cleveland in which 24 local non-profit agencies benefited from individual needs assessments.
Encourages leadership through elected and appointed office.
Accomplishment: The Government Leadership Academy was conducted for more than 35 graduates in 2010-2011 and governmental leadership was addressed in Signature Program Justice and Citizenship Day sessions resulting in 43 LSC participants currently serving in elected office.
Use social media & personal relationships to connect non-profits with graduates
Accomplishments: Facebook, Twitter, Leadership’s Link-on-Line newsletter, web site posts, and one-on-one connections are used to publicize non-profit board needs resulting in 14 alumni connected to boards in 2010. In all, nearly 350 graduates serve on more than 300 non-profit boards.
