Jülz has invested over $1 million in its downtown Canton location, utilizing primarily local assets and resources. The company is focused on local development and on the arts movement in Canton. Jülz has sponsored the Stark County High School Art Competition and regularly features local artists in its showroom. Jülz was named America’s Coolest Jewelry Store by InStore Magazine and one of the Best Jewelry and Watch Retailers in America by Harper’s Bazaar. The jeweler was also chosen to premier the Centennial Exhibition of Mercy Medical Center. Jülz is committed to the Stark County community and is one the most innovative, dynamic jewelers in the region. Founded by Floyd and Doris Kimble in 1950, Kimble Transfer and Recycling has been in the mining and solid waste disposal business for sixty years. From 1994 to 2009, the number of communities in the U.S. with access to curbside recycling tripled, and Stark County is no exception to this trend. KTR and its affiliate, J&J Refuse, offer collection and processing of recyclables for residents throughout Stark County. In 1993, KTR designed and built its innovative Material Recovery Facility (MTF) in Canton in order to sort and bale source-separated recyclables from throughout Stark County. In the last quarter of 2008 and throughout 2009, the City of Canton implemented its first-ever curbside recycling program for residents. KTR was selected to receive and process all of the city’s recyclables. KTR accepts recyclable materials daily from Stark County’s collection program, the general public and other private haulers. Materials accepted include paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, aluminum, steel and yard waste. In 2009, the company invested in major renovations to the tipping floor and materials handling equipment at the Canton facility, totaling approximately $262,000, and expanded services to include recycling of rigid plastics. Kimble Transfer and Recycling is a cornerstone of recycling and waste disposal in Stark County and has plans to expand their innovative process to serve Stark County even better in the future.

Young Entrepreneur Snapshot
Name: Todd E. Pugh Age: 38 Company Name: Todd’s Enviroscapes, Inc. How did you come up with the idea for your business/product/service? Like many startup businesses, I started out of necessity. I was 14 years old and needed a way to make some spending money. I was not old enough to get a “real” job, so one Sunday on our way home from church my parents pointed out an older man struggling to mow his lawn They encouraged me to go talk to him after school on Monday and that became my first mowing account for $5 a week. I have always had a love for plants, the environment, creating and building cool things, and continuing the business after graduating from OSU was a no-brainer for me. I had found a way to get paid for what I loved to do.
other parts of the state to work it often takes more time to get permits than to complete the job. In Stark County, there are many wonderful people, entrepreneurs, public spaces and corporations that take pride in the way their properties look. We are in the business of enhancing outdoor space. When you have a community that takes pride in their properties, there is an opportunity for a business like Enviroscapes. If you are good to the community they will be good to you.
to keep and attract young talent. ystark! creates that opportunity.
Why is having a strong YP community important for your business? These young professionals have a contagious spirit of entrepreneurship and business that will grow our local economy. Growth in our local economy means growth for our business. When you have a community of aspiring young professionals who believe in what they are doing and want to improve the environment around them, the net result is going to be very positive.
3. Seek out a mentor and/or someone who has done what you are doing.
What are your thoughts on ystark!? It is a great organization. The mission of ystark! – to attract, retain and engage talented young people in Stark County – sums up why the organization is vital to me. ystark! is a conduit to bring together a group of people who share a common interest. For Stark County to lead the way and be competitive in the future, we need
What advice would you give to YPs who share your entrepreneurial streak but are just getting started? 1. Make sure you are passionate about what you are going to do. 2. Believe in yourself and surround yourself with positive people.
What’s next for you? I am young and our team is young so we are just getting started! Three years ago we developed goals and a vision as a team that we wanted to accomplish as a company. Through hours of team building and discussion we landed on our vision: to become the #1 landscape company in the world. With over 100 employees and our expected growth rate to over 250 employees over the next five years, there will be no shortage of opportunity for our team. I am excited to create an environment for young professionals to grow with the company. Our current success has been based on creativity, quality, service and value and will remain non-negotiable in exchange for growth. It will be an exciting ride.
Which attributes best define you as an entrepreneur? Passionate, dedicated, driven, fair and always willing to learn and improve. Why have you chosen Canton as your home base? I was born and raised in Louisville, Ohio, and my parents as well as in-laws still live here. It is nice to be close to family. I experienced a piece of city life while at Ohio State, and although it was nice, I like the smaller community feeling of Stark County. I am blessed with a wonderful wife and three children and I feel comfortable with raising my family in Stark County. How have the amenities of Stark County contributed to your success?
