Canvas is the departmental journal of McGill’s Department of Art History and Communication Studies. We publish both academic essays and editorial pieces from McGill students on topics relevant to the department, in order to showcase the work being created both within Art History and Communication Studies classes and other related courses here at McGill. In addition to online content, we publish a physical journal in late March consisting of select essays published online that year, a few of which are then presented at a departmental research colloquium.
Canvas aims to provide students with a platform within McGill to publish their work and gain experience in editing, as well as to foster a culture of shared work within the department. We constantly push students to produce original, innovative research and quality writing. As much as is possible in a departmental setting, we also aim to provide a space for new and emerging perspectives on art and media theory.
