Gwynne Vaughan Park

Rotary Vedder River Trail

Located on the corner of Williams Road and Hope River Road, Gwynne Vaughan Park consists of six acres of prime land and a heritage home willed to the City of Chilliwack and administered by the Gwynne Vaughan Society. The Gwynne Vaughan Park Board and members of the Society, along with the City of Chilliwack Parks, Recreation and Culture Department, develops and maintains the beautiful gardens and trees through a coordinated effort of cleaning, weeding, pruning and planning. The heritage house has also been restored and maintained by this unique volunteer organization through donations and funds raised in their annual Garden Party and Plant Sale held in the park on the first Saturday in June. For more information and an opportunity to volunteer phone Beth Gillespie at 604-792-4828 or Jack Allan at 604-795-3837.

The popular Rotary Vedder River Trail runs for 15.5km along the north dyke of the Vedder River, and with a surface that is suitable for walking, running, cycling or horseback riding, it has become a popular venue for outdoor leisure and recreation activities. Parking areas are located at Vedder, Peach, Lickman and Sumas Prairie roads. Picnic tables and benches are situated along the trail. The Parks, Recreation & Culture Department is committed to the ongoing development of new trails to enhance the existing 34 kilometers of trails throughout Chilliwack.

Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve The Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve is a 130-hectare site managed by the City of Chilliwack and the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve Society. Located on the south end of Sumas Prairie Road, between the dyke and the Vedder River, this area was formerly known as the Wet Bridge Training Area for the Department of Defence. This unique undyked floodplain habitat is home to over 90 Great Blue Heron nests and a wide

Take home materials allow parents and caregivers to continue the fun activities with their children. Students can transition directly from Kindermusik into private lessons in violin and piano. Instructor: Marlene Carr Suzuki Piano and Violin (ages 3+) Dr. Shin’ichi Suzuki’s program of instruction is based on the belief that children learn to play musical instruments as naturally as they learn to speak. This “Mother-tongue Method” of teaching recognizes the unlimited potential in every child. Children are encouraged to learn music by listening and imitation, repetition, and receiving praise and encouragement in a positive learning environment both at home and in class. Students learn by listening and repetition of basic skills before printed music reading is introduced. Instructors: Karin Fehlauer, piano and violin Gwyneth Jones, violin

12

As one of the basic concepts of the Suzuki method, group lessons will prove invaluable in your child’s musical growth. Instructor: Gwyneth Jones Kelly Kirby Kindergarten Piano (ages 4 - 6) The Kelly Kirby Kindergarten Piano Method is a system of teaching piano, musical rudiments, and theory in weekly lessons. Each lesson uses pictures, stories, games, and movement, and is designed to develop musical interest and knowledge. Instructor: Marlene Carr

Classes: Music Theory and Music History Learn the mechanics of music from the basics to advanced composition and style analysis in private, semi-private and group classes. Courses are offered in Rudiments, Harmony, History, Counterpoint, and Analysis. Most are geared towards conservatory exam preparation.
