Put on your Western duds, Surrey. It’s time to rock the rodeo.

It’s 65 years and counting for Cloverdale Rodeo — and a whopping 122 for the fair that accompanies all that bronco bucking, staged every year on the Victoria Day long weekend (May 20 to 23). The rodeo is marking its 65th anniversary with a whole lot of tradition, and some new features, too. The rodeo will again
be rocking the Stetson Bowl, of course, and the fair will offer thrilling rides, action sports demos, food and, this year, lots of musical variety on stages set up around Cloverdale Fairgrounds. The Now’s enterainment editor Tom Zillich tells you who will take the stage and rock the rodeo this year. See page 21.
❚CRIME REDUCTION STRATEGY
Surrey’s overall crime rate dropping, city report suggests Tom ZYTARUK Now Staff

Surrey’s crime rate is falling. A Crime Reduction Strategy progress report presented to Surrey council by city staff on Monday night says that between
2006 and 2009, overall crime dropped by 10 per cent, property crimes dropped by 19 per cent, violent crime dropped by five per cent, and burglary and auto theft fell by 20 per cent and 24 per cent, respectively. City hall expects to release the
figures for 2009-2010 this summer, but according to the RCMP, a preliminary analysis indicates a continued drop in crime, straight across the board. “While there is always more to be done, the work of the last four years has resulted in many new
partnerships, holistic problemsolving approaches, and progress in addressing the root causes of crime in our city,” Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts said. “It’s definitely trending in the right direction.”
