There is a job opening for a DPW heavy equipment operator 2. They also talked about the bridge replacement project for Long Pond Road near Pocono Raceway, which was expect ed to start in late August and now is supposed to begin in October.Roadissues included driv ers traveling too fast along the curve on Allegheny Drive and speeding on Yellow stone Drive in Sierra View. Traffic calming possibilities were discussed such as speed bumps and/or police pres ence. It was noted that Stop signs and curb sign installa tion cost $3,000 each; these light up so are expensive. This is being studied.

In current business, super visors approved a resolution for Indian Mountain Lake Civic Association that ac knowledges that it is a ‘Civic Association,’ which will allow the community to have bingo and small games of chance.
New letters were sent out to owners of “ugly proper ties.” The township will be looking into grants to beau tify derelict properties or get them knocked down.

We all came here for quality of life but with potential warehouse construction to get to these areas you may sit in hours of traffic.” She again asked the board, “please think about this.”Board president Marion Pyzik echoed Madden’s con cerns, stating, “The Board needs more time to discuss this matter.” It was decided to table topic for more review and put it on the agenda for the September 21 meeting.

While I’m getting treat ed these past few months, I promised Ruth that we’d still make the most of our sum mer. As with most infusion therapy, there are good days and not. I’m bulling my way through the days I am tired, being careful but getting out. On the 14th, we took our dogs and headed to Knoebels to see The Mahoney Brothers perform, arriving to see two of their shows. Their evening show was Beatles and Beyond, my favorite of the shows they do as they celebrate the music of the band members after it broke up. We attended the Carbon County Fair on its closing day. That’s the day the 4-H critter auction is held, some thing we find very entertain ing. While we were there, Dr. Oz the senate candidate, and Lisa Scheller, our candidate for congress, turned up. Ruth got to meet Oz, and I had a few minutes to talk with Scheller. Ruth and I were in
a photo in the Times News of folks at the auction the photo featured Oz who had bid on a goat. We were in the back, paying attention to the auction. It was a surprise.
The annual Celtic Classic in Bethlehem on the 23rd, 24th and 25th. It’s free, running late morning into through about 9 p.m. We’ll likely attend on Sunday as weather and energy allows. There are four stages of mu sic, two event spaces, and lots of food and vendors.

On the 19th, we were at the Harford Fair to help the local Rotary club for that area cover their fair booth for a four-hour shift. We played hooky that day. It was a lot of Hellos and handing out Dum-Dum suckers. We were surprised to meet two Journal readers from the Blakeslee area who stopped by our booth and were equal ly surprised to find us.

Sightings these weeks were varied, including a herd of goats on the berm of the turnpike an eco-friendly lawn mowing crew. I think I saw a fisher crossing the road in Hickory Run State Park. Heading home one night, I saw a coyote. There are a fair number of butterflies, some foxes, wild turkeys, and hawks. As we finished last week’s Journal-Herald, we walked out of our front door to find a doe lying on our front lawn in the area where we’ve been growing herbs and flow ers, which explains a lot about what had been eating our plants. She was a bit hard to move along, but I was able to shoo her away before bringing the dogs out. The doe mo seyed off down the street.

Harry H. Haedrich, “Poppie,” formerly of Langhorne passed away suddenly on Monday, August 8, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bartonsville. He was 89. Harry was born in Phila delphia and lived in Lang horne for 65 years, where he raised his family. He worked for Allied Chemical as a welder/pipe fitter for 40 years and also served as the unionAftersecretary.retiring, Harry built his own home in Mt. (Chajkiewicz) Sanders, 75, of Tobyhanna, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 at Lehigh Valley Pocono Hospice House.Born in Brooklyn, New York she was the daughter of the late Adam and Catherine (Keenan) CatherineChajkiewicz.wasthewife of the late Paul Sanders. She worked serving in the Pocono Mountain School District Junior High Cafeteria for over 15 years, where she was known as the best “Pizza Lady.”

Rev. Anderman served the three-point charge of Cum bola Circuit (Cumbola, New Philadelphia, and Middle port) for a year and a half be ginning in 1950. In 1951, he was appointed to Bethel in Spring City; in 1954 to Corn wells in Bensalem (Cornwells Heights); in 1962 to Reho both in Philadelphia; in 1968 to Centenary in Lebanon which merged to become Trinity; in 1975 to Commu nity in Lancaster; in 1980 to Juniata Park in Philadelphia, now Iglesia Metodista Unida Espiritu Santo; to retirement in 1992, during which time served as visitation pastor at Stroudsburg until December of In2009.1950, he met and mar ried Carol Seltzer Jones, a registered nurse, who was a member of his brother Carl’s church in Port Carbon. After his retirement in 1992, they moved to Pocono Summit and in 2010, moved to Simp son House in Philadelphia, where he was being cared for when he passed.

Early 1942 Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was assigned as Master Mechanic to the 50th Troop Carrier Squadron. After stateside training, the 50th carried the 86th Airborne in the opening battle of the Allied North Africa Campaign. From there the 50th moved on to the Invasion of Sicily and the Invasion of Italy. From 1944 – 1945, the 50th Troop Carrier participated in Operation OverlordD-Day, then on to provide air support for the Battle of the Bulge and more. After V-E Day 50th TCS supported U.S. Air Forces in Europe, mopping up after the war and transporting Allied prisoners back from Germany.
H. John Davis, Jr., died August 21, 2022. Born June 16, 1919 in Pittsburgh to H. John Davis, Sr., and Izetta, Jack was the oldest of four brothers. Raised in the Carnegie Section of Pittsburgh, Jack had a fascination with mechanics and airplanes, graduating in 1941 from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics earning the coveted Airframe and Powerplant License.
He is survived by his children, James G. McDonald, Michael (Alejandra Betancourt) McDonald, Kellie (Robert) Montrose; grandchildren, Madison McDonald, Jason Montrose and Edward Lacardo; and many nieces and nephews.
Verna Mae Binkley, 81, of Pocono Lake, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Whitestone Care Center. She was the loving wife of the late Charles H. Binkley, Sr. with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage. Born in Stroudsburg, she was a daughter of the late Arnold and Grace (Snyder)

Jim worked for American Van Lines and Vernay & Sons Moving and Storage, prior to retirement, and delivered the Passaic County voting machines for 25 years. He enjoyed fishing, watching the NY Giants and an occasional trip to the casino watching horses race.

Since 1946, H. John has tirelessly served his community through various boards and associations, including Board of Pocono Hospital, Board of Trustees of Mt. Pocono UMC, Pocono Mt Chamber of Commerce, the Pennsylvania Petroleum Assn, Pennsylvania Propane Gas Assn, and the Craft Advisory Council of the Monroe Career and Technical Institute. He is also well-known as one of the founders of American Legion Post #903, a member of Masonic Lodge #780, and past president and 72year member of Mt. Pocono Rotary.Jackhad continuously devoted his time and energy to his wife Olive of 74 years, until her passing in 2021.
