On Saturday, September 11, the Pocono Lions Club, PA Veterans Rowing and Kayaking group, and Lake Naomi Club will host a ceremony at Club Beach commemorating the 20th anniversary of September 11. The ceremony will also present plaques of recognition and appreciation to local first responder entities in attendance, including Pocono Mountain Regional Police, Pocono Mountain Regional EMS, and Tobyhanna Township Volunteer Fire Company. The public is invited to attend, beginning at 8 a.m. for musical selections by Jimmy LeSavage on bagpipes, vocalist Karen McClain, Theresa Dinunvi on guitar, and US Air Force Veteran Staff Sergeant Stephanie Kerrick (vocalist). The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a flag raising and usher in guest speakers Senator Mario Scavello, Sergeant Major Michael J. Wiles of Tobyhanna Army Depot, and local clergy, Father Sean Carpenter of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish and Rabbi Peg Kershenbaum of Congregation B’nai Harim. The ceremony is highlighted, too, with additional music by Kerrick and McClain, as well as the Pocono Mountain West

Junior High School Chorus under the direction of Jeralyn Aragona-Young. Volunteers for this event include local elected officials, scouts, Pocono Lions Club, and members of the community. Everyone is welcome to attend. Local emergency services will be present with fun activities for the kids, all are invited to coffee and doughnuts after the ceremony, and PAVRAK will provide canoe rides on the lake. There will be seating available on the beach, but you are also able to “BYOChair” if you wish. The tragic events that unfolded that Tuesday morning 20 years ago will remain in our hearts and minds for our lifetimes, but also brought forth the strength and resilience of the American people. On Saturday morning we will gather to grieve our losses, celebrate our nation’s strength, and offer gratitude and recognition to the men and women who protect our country and serve as first responders in our community. Lake Naomi Club Beach is located at 135 Miller Drive in Pocono Pines. Emergency Services vehicles will be parked in the main lot for attendees to explore.
