CH– AIR WOM– AN’S NO– TE.

As students, the city of Edinburgh is where we live, work, go out and have fun. The aim of our 2016 campaign ‘Urban Conscious’ is to reclaim the youthful identity of this capital city. However, ‘Urban Conscious’ means being aware of all life in the city. I am thrilled that we are supporting The Rock Trust, an Edinburgh based charity which prevents and alleviates homelessness for youths in our city. The years show, ‘Fresh from the Factory,’ has turned towards an un–layered aesthetic; a stripped back presentation compared to the usual white walls, brightly lit and highly polished catwalks. It will showcase independent designers, graduates, boutiques and infamous brands in a way unseen in Scotland before. We are holding this two day show in the Biscuit Factory, a new business hub that shares our goal in bringing the Edinburgh creative scene to the next level. The committee this year is made up of twenty–two members and is comprised of enthusiastic creative and fashion directors, dedicated events and front of house officers, bloggers, publicity and production teams, with student volunteers along the way too. ECFS is breathing new light and optimism into the notorious ECFS name, we represent modernity, creativity and charity. For the first time, we are the closing show for Edinburgh Fashion week. I hope you enjoy the show,

Amber Coleman

To communicate our theme through aesthetics, our visual output has concentrated exclusively on urban trends and textures; the brick, concrete and metal that identifies the contemporary city we love. This year we have worked to expand ECFS as a platform for young creatives to exhibit talent and collaborate on editorial projects, events and the final show. We have outsourced talent from all over the city, growing our creative network to promote the up–and–coming. I am very proud to present this magazine publication as a celebration of our best work from the ECFS 2016 campaign.

Divided into two sections with an extensive interval, this years show utilises a fun new upper level concept space. Guests can enjoy a pop up bar, cocktail stands, fashion stalls, interactive mediums, photo booths, live music and student art.

Downstairs, the first half of the show will couple exciting visuals and act as the launch event for R.R. Shaman, 23 year old songwriter and producer. For the show he has composed a bespoke piece that explores urban consciousness through sound, with particular reference to multiculturalism; individual cultural lives and their collective consciousness that make city life so alive.

PIIPLINE PIIPELINE are a film production trio with artistic vision, talent and enthusiasm. Never failing to produce outstanding film, PIIPELINE productions have played a huge role in the ECFS 2016 campaign.

PRODUCTIONS

Following their first collaboration as a trio for ECFS, PIIPELINE was officially formed in their second year at the University of Edinburgh. From their first real commission for Dwayne Fields, an adventurer who escaped a violent inner–city upbringing to become the second black man to reach the North Pole, to a pilot for a TV series starring Liam Neeson, their work is always varied and never dull. After graduation, the boys are embarking on their next great adventure: a bike ride from Nairobi to Cape Town, which will of course, be recorded for our viewing pleasure. What makes PIIPELINE so unique to anyone who knows Charlie, Weddo and Waddi, is their friendship. Flatmates, best friends and colleagues, the trio all agreed on the values that they felt were integral to PIIPELINE.

We want to always have a laugh doing it – it should never be a chore; if you’re not having a fun time doing it, you may as well not be doing it at all.

THROW –

ECFS 2016 infused boroughs, restaurants, bars, barbershops, music venues and open spaces with raw, unique and unrivalled event designs. The events team has strived to provide attendees with the opportunity to experience concepts and visit venues unfrequented by students.

The sold out Launch Party, 19.11.15 at Studio 24 clearly set the precedence for our events that followed and acted as a catalyst for the hype that ECFS 2016 has enjoyed. Our official ECFS 2016 DJs Gav Miller and Khalid Hussain headlined this hugely successful evening, alongside new student talent Sam Garel–Jones, Alex Davidson, Tom Graham and Sam–Meeson Frizelle.

– K CAB

The Grub Club on the 27.01.16 and 28.01.16 was hosted at Checkpoint café, dubbed by the Times as ‘one of the coolest 25 restaurants in Britain.’ The concept for this evening was to provide restaurant quality food, showcase the talent of 12 sets of student musicians and exhibit a selection of artists curated by the student–run art organisation The Foam Collective.

In between these two fantastic events a team from the committee swapped comfy beds for cardboard and slept out on Festival Square on 06.11.15. This reinforced a deeper understanding amongst the team that the events put on prior to the show contribute to something bigger than just a ‘great outing.’ Each ticket purchase contributed to the £7000 these events progressively raised for The Rock Trust.

But it’s not over yet… as one last hurrah for ECFS 2016 we are hosting our biggest party EVER. Our Official ECFS 2016 Afterparty is at ‘The Warehouse,’ 12.03.16. Used only a handful of times, opening only for the likes of Seth Troxler and Huxley this warehouse space is reached through a quaint Grassmarket alleyway and will be completely transformed by festival grade equipment. So let’s thoroughly enjoy the ending of an incredibly successful year!
