Warmth of Wine
The Foundation was again a sponsor of the Warmth of Wine fundraiser for the Colonie Senior Services Center in early March. More than 375 people, including CAP COM volunteers, gathered at The Century House to support this important local charity.

Gains amid volatility Navigating volatile financial markets is a cornerstone of smart investing. Taking a long-term view helps produce decisions that benefit your retirement portfolio. “At CAP COM Financial, our clients get steady advice to help them navigate market swings,” said Financial Advisor Harry Hartman.

Maintain perspective Don’t panic. Don’t sell into a rapidly declining market and don’t buy into a rapidly rising market. You’ll just be following the herd and locking in losses. You never know when the market is going to shoot up, so staying invested and not giving in to panic can really make a difference. Portfolio review Your portfolio’s mix of stocks, bonds and cash equivalents should reflect your needs. Diversify by spreading money among different investments to reduce risk.
Market-timing risk Dollar cost averaging can help reduce market-timing risk for long-term investors. By investing regular amounts at steady intervals, your cost per share will average out over time. If the market rises over the long term, expensive shares purchased at the top of one cycle will be offset by the cheaper shares bought when the market corrects. Talk with us! Call CAP COM Financial at (518) 782-0209 to set up a meeting.
This article was prepared by Standard & Poor’s and is not intended to provide specific investment advice or recommendations for any individual. Consult your financial advisor if you have any questions.
Peaks and valleys Long-term investors can handle a few market peaks and valleys. However, investors with a short time horizon should answer critical questions such as: How much can I afford to lose in the short term? Am I pursuing growth that will outpace inflation?
