NORTHERN RIVERS CHAPTER

The Day. The surf charity event starts at 6.30am for 7am at Lennox Head beach, with teams of four, covering all ages and levels, from kids to veterans, weekend warriors to pro’s, riding all sorts of equipment. The key is participation and having fun, all surfing together, a true community event. Judging (which is led by a WSL professional judge) is based on merit, and balances well across equipment and aptitude, heats last (40 minutes) with all 4 team members in their heat, catching waves in a round robin format. Between surfing in their heats, everyone enjoys the beach festival atmosphere, meeting and connecting with other locals, pro surfers and the local business community that sponsors the event, whilst eating a sausage, having a drink, and most importantly, getting to meet a few of the beneficiaries of the charity. By the time we get to the finals, competition is fierce as the cream rises to the top, and everyone is cheering on their chosen team. The winning team shares in the glory of victory, and the sponsoring company gets bragging rights for the next year. There is also an award for best dressed team, in the spirit of fun.

The Day - continues. Following the final, the whole troupe decamps to Club Lennox (a short walk away from the beach) for presentations, raffles and the hotly contested charity auction (thanks to donations from our local business community). All this goes on with everyone having a great lunch and enjoying a few drinks. We also get to hear from some families who the charity has helped previously, and the difference that your participation has made in their lives. A truly moving experience. The whole day is completed by 3.30 pm, with smiles, great memories, money raised to make a difference and an even closer sense of community here in the Northern Rivers.

The Charity. Established in 2004, The Board Meeting is a registered charity comprising four chapters, Northern Rivers, Gold Coast, Brisbane and the founding chapter on the Sunshine Coast. To date, we have raised over $1 million dollars. The charity is run exclusively by volunteers and local community members and as such all profits go to local recipients. The Board Meeting was founded to “Provide assistance to families with children with disabilities who cannot find support elsewhere. Assistance for families varies from wheelchairs to respite care, and makes a real difference to recipients whose life is already more challenging than many can imagine.

Participation. There are many ways Northern Rivers businesses can be involved in this event, with real benefits coming back to participating organisations on many levels, the key is participation, the outcome is recognition, and making a difference in the community.

Enter a Team. $500 allows you to enter a team of surfers of your choosing, with the majority of teams being made up of business owners and their staff. This leads to wonderful team building and community engagement.

Sponsor a team. $500 Allows you to sponsor local surfers, who may not be able to enter themselves, e.g., young surfers from local board riding clubs. Each surfer gets a sponsor’s bag.

Commemorative T shirt, Commemorative Towel Promotional offers from local business.

Provide prizes for raffles, charity auction or winning teams.

Sponsor the Team Bags. You could provide 120 items for inclusion in the surfer’s sponsor bag. This may be an item or an offer and will need to be supplied a week before the event. All participating companies are free to provide marquees, samples and some level of engagement with entrants on the day. All sponsors are recognised during the surf event and presentation. For the past four years Danny Wills Quiksilver Byron Bay has provided the bags for the entrant’s merchandise to be distributed.
