Tireless campaigns see teenage pregnancies reduction According to a recent research teenage pregnancy is common in South Africa. Nearly a third of women have children before they reach the age of 20 years. Because teenage pregnancy has become so prevalent in especially impoverished communities, persistent education are encouraging mostly young girls to complete school to ensure their children have a better future.

Further research conducted by Dr. Alecia Samuels, suggests that poverty, crime and drug abuse are some of the factors which leads to teenage pregnancy. She said young girls who do not get support in raising their children are likely not complete school. And if the young mother’s mom takes over the rearing of the child the chances is she will get pregnant again. I want to encourage young moms to complete their schooling because this will help their children to have a better future,” Samuels said. Young mothers also say that they struggle financially because in most cases the fathers are absent. A teenage mother Cape Flats News spoke to and who wanted to remain anonymous said that raising a child alone is not easy. “Even though my Good times keep rolling at E A behind the Springboks in their quest everyone is encourage dressing up in mother helps me with the baby I Janari primary school as educators, for World Cup glory. LET’S TALK BUSINESS SOLE PROPRIETORSHIP OR COMPANY? During the initial stages of a business the entrepreneur must decide on the business form which would be the most suitable for his or her business. There are different types of business forms but we will only explore the comparison between a sole proprietorship and a private company. Basically, a sole proprietorship is a business where an individual owns, manages and trades in his own name. It is the most simplistic business form, has minimal legal requirements and no initial set up costs. The business and the owner (the proprietor) are not separated from each other, even though
the business may have a different trade name. With this business form, the business owner places all his assets - business and personal - at risk. Business profits are taxed together with any other taxable income the proprietor earns. The maximum marginal tax rate for a sole proprietor is 40%. A private company, on the other hand, involves a bit more administration when setting up. A name first needs to be reserved at the Commission for Intellectual Property and Companies (“CIPC”), before the company can be registered at a fee. Annual fees are payable to the CIPC to ensure that

the company remains registered. The private company is a separate entity from its owners. Finance for the business can be raised by issuing shares to shareholders, together with bank finance. Even though the directors and shareholders have certain responsibilities towards the private company, their personal risk is much lower than that of a sole proprietor. The maximum marginal tax rate for a private company is 28%. Although a sole proprietor may be the most convenient business form at start up, it may be more beneficial to trade in a private company over the long run.

Stories of drugs hit the headlines on the Cape Flats every day, and startling figures from SAPS show we really need to educate our youth about the true effects of street drugs on the mind and body. Getting people informed is the first step, and then they can make their own choices. And earlier in the month learners at Boundary Primary took the initiative to facilitate a drug awareness programme at the school. Learners urge the
Department of Education to get involved. Subsequently Testing Learning Centre was deployed at the school since March of this year and has steadily worked with the learners. Leading Testing Learning Centre facilitator Elvin Botha said, “the whole point of this programme is to restore social-inter action amongst these kids and to rebuild families lives and homes in the immediate area.” Most of the learners spoken to agree the workshop was informative and worthwhile, and certainly reveal the dangers of drugs.

Inconsistent performances marred Cape NFD teams
The 2015/16 National First Division which kicked off on Saturday August 22, have seen mixed results for the five Western Cape teams. After six matches played, only Cape Town All Stars have been reliable, even last week topping the log. At this early stage, it appears Santos and FC Cape Town are in for a long season while Milano and Vasco da Gama, appears more steady than challenging for league honours and or promotion. With some much talent amongst all the teams it’s rather disappointing to see the teams struggling to make an impact in the NFD, so let’s hope for a change of fortune in two weeks’ time when matches resumes.
