Bontas community unite against unresponsive leadership & policing Uiteindelik!! Bonteheuwel het gister gewys wat in hom steek toe honderde inwoners byeen opgeruk het om hul misnoeë uit te spreek teen die meedoelose gang violence. Entrances and exits to and from Bonteheuwel were in a disciplined way cordoned off with no one allowed to leave and or enter. The area has been under siege of gang violence for the past two years or so. Yet throughout this period those in leadership with other powers have shown no care, concern or compassion for the challenges face by people on a daily basis. As is often the case, they (national & provincial leadership) rather play the ‘blame game,’ whilst the community are being traumatized. For a short while it appears the protest might denigrate into a

chaotic situation as the police behaviour and brutality was once again exposed as they fire on innocent protesters, who merely were exercising their democratic right to protest. The police just don’t get it! You don’t resolve disputes and grievance through gunfire. When will they learn? The country’s President Cyril Ramaphosa and Police Minister Bheki Cele need to step in and start taking culpability. The uttering people must work with the police and ward councillor/ s are hollow cries. Dit is bewys dat juis hierdie persone hulself blootstel aan korrupsie, so reporting and or working with untrusted public servants is not the answer. Time is now to resource of the power of people, as locals shouted ‘the granted. Its high time ward councillors and Cape Flats communities harassed by gang People shall Govern.’ Far too long political their bosses get serious and start working violence. Yesterday’s march was an indicator leaders have taken people and their votes for in their respective wards. (Copy submitted)

CAPE FLATS NEWS

OUR MESSAGE TO ABUSIVE MEN - REAL MEN RESPECT SOUTH AFRICA’S GREATEST ASSET “OUR WOMEN” During the month of August our nation celebrates women who changed the world significantly and contributed to shape politics and public opinion. Without women society can’t function and real men accept that women can be their equal and even better. As men we have some serious introspection to do because when we mishandle women, we are mishandling God’s Idea. If we abandon women; we are abandoning God’s Idea. We need to step forward and as a collective to ensure women are respected and

that the struggle of women ends now. Men please read 1 Peter 3:7 Women don’t let this women’s month end up like all the others. Make sure it brings you everything you deserve and restore everything that is lacking in your life. You have an unprecedented opportunity to relaunch yourself, to re-discover yourself, to give birth to yourself and to be your own authentic version. You are God’s Idea and a Good Idea. You are perpetually valuable and permanently rare and irreplaceable. Bind your wounds cry for a while but find the courage to keep moving forward. Refuse to carry with you through life a nagging sense of wasted years, wasted beauty, and wasted potential. You cannot turn back the hands of time, but God can heal you. God is

able to repair the broken and damaged places in your life. There is no hurt that God cannot heal. All you need to do is to expose to God where those broken and damaged places are. It’s never too late to start all over again. You don’t have any time to play the blame game or for detours. Look at your age – how old are you? Go and shock yourself look in the mirror. It is time to move on. It is time to dream, to imagine what you can achieve. God wants you to look great, feel great and live life on a whole new level. God wants goodness, wellness and mercy to follow you all the days of your life. Ps. 23:5-6. God Bless ken.mitchell@telkomsa. net – 0641339460

Locals occupy prominent spot at Peace Summit

Various community organisations, including schools from Bonteheuwel partnered with the support of Heavenly Culture Peace and Restoration of Light (HWPL) to welcome African and global leaders at a summit themed working towards achieving a world of peace in our lifetime. To extend their peace

campaign, the world peace organisation has reached out to impoverished communities, religious institutions, schools, civil society and key women figures. Of course, Bonteheuwel leading peace activist Mrs. Soraya Salie has been at the forefront to spearhead this peace campaign. At the international summit, a

Athletes rewarded for unselfish sportsmanship

Nantes A.C club members who assisted the late Feroza Vermeulen during this year’s edition of the Old Mutual Two Oceans marathon (Omtom) were honoured with 21km medals for their unselfish efforts at the Bridgetown sport complex on Thursday. Vermeulen collapsed on the Southern Cross inter section whilst competing in the race and efforts to revive her were in vain. The above mentioned club members remained with Feroza throughout her ordeal and never completed the race. The function was the initiative by Nantes AC and the OMTOM office. Emotional send off for Aunty Janab Tears flow freely when EA Janari bid farewell to its long serving general foreman Mrs. Janab Williams. As has become the norm, EA Janari knows how to ‘throw a party,’ and boy did they capture the imagination of those in attendance! Management and staff even managed to entice former principals Mrs. Cupido and Mrs. Meeran with her husband to this auspicious event. Recently retiree Mrs. Meeran was the keynote speaker and was at her eloquent best. The lady of the hour Aunty Janab was described as a firm and very serious person, yet decidedly caring and supportive to those around her. Mrs. Meeran, added, ‘Janab attended the school in Aunty Janab receives a bouquet from her teens, was an exceptional netball player educator Mrs. Trudy Paulse.

and once employed become one of the most competent netball coaches in the sport history of the school. However never far behind was her almost obsessive cleanliness and tidiness. Everything had to place and even the school garden to testify to that.” The day was highlighted by lots of music and singing concluding with an exquisite personal poem, perfect recited by educator Lee Siebritz. The event was a fitting farewell for a courageous and resilience woman, who served her time well, often beyond the boundaries of the school. (Copy submitted)

at the Bonteheuwel Community Centre from 18h30 to 19h30. Everyone is welcome with a small fee payable. Since inception, mostly women have attended the classes and have experience huge benefits. I believe have saved some marriages! The advantages of Zumba, helps keeping you fit, enhance a healthy eating and supports with coordination of your body. The men who have attended classes have complimented me as it aided them to deal with diabetes and low libido (sex drive). Given of all above, when husband and wife do exercises together one senses a fresh synergy, which I find flattering seeing improvement in a family relationship and of course goes beyond the exercise floor. Ultimately it impacts on those at home, especially children. Locals should really come visit and experience the spin offs, they will be pleasantly surprise. I am here to make an Impact!!

Athletics Highlights: Distances I specialize was

The annual High School Jam rocked the Grand Arena, GrandWest for the eighth year earlier this month. This is the ultimate show for young Capetonians, where teenagers from nine high schools perform to thousands of friends, families and fans gathering for the Cape’s favourite high school music event. The objectives of this incredible event are to unite teenagers, schools and communities through music, entertainment and performance. It is a great place for teens to develop self-esteem and self-belief thanks to the support and mentorship of the

producers, choreographers, facilitators and industry specialists involved in putting on this spectacular show. The nine high schools which part in this year’s event each put on a half hour show, starting on the hour from 10h00. The participating schools were South Peninsula High School, Alexander Sinton High School, Bridgetown High School, Sans Souci Girls High School, Pinelands High School, Heathfield High School, Rhodes High School, Edgemead High School and Parel Vallei High School. Dr Wentzel gee raad …. Daar is egter ‘n paar ander goed wat my bekommer.

Dokter Antw. Sterkte.

on track 1500m, 3000m and 10 000m and on the road it was 10km, 15km, 21, 1km, 42,5km, 56km & 89km. Was twice WP marathon champion plus won the Wonderlands both as a senior athlete and veteran. Competing overseas, in Australia annexed four gold medals + 4 silver medals. In Canada in track, cross country and road, I captured 4 gold, a silver & bronze medal. Winning starts for home teams in Currie Cup DHL Western Province, the Cell C Sharks and the Xerox Golden Lions showed that they could be forces to be reckoned with this season as they kicked off their Currie Cup campaigns on a winning note with valuable bonus points. Defending champions, DHL Western Province, held their nerve in torrid weather conditions in Cape Town to outplay the Toyota Free State Cheetahs 32-0, which saw them take top spot on the log on points’ difference in the competition. The first half between DHL Western Province and the Toyota Free State

Cheetahs was slow and error-ridden as the teams tried hard to adapt to the heavy rain and swirling wind at DHL Newlands, and it was no surprise that the only points in the first 39 minutes were two penalty goals by DHL Western Province’s SP Marais.
