Yovanka’s Advice
Saturday
Saturdays bring me back to what truly centres my world; my family. They are my steadfast rocks. My husband and children are the people who ground me in the midst of a busy schedule. The transition from my office to home is my daily ritual; swapping my CEO hat for ‘mum mode’ and I find this shift is essential. It’s a reminder that while my professional life requires me to be ‘on’, there’s equally a need to recharge and embrace the simple joys of family life.
“Dealing with challenges requires consistency, resilience, and patience. Every day won’t be perfect, and there will be ups and downs. The key is
to
stay focused on the journey, not just the destination. Challenges, whether they’re related to people, business, or personal matters, are inevitable. Rather than getting
used to them, it’s about rolling up your sleeves and tackling them head-on.”
Friday
Fridays are dedicated to expanding our global footprint and enhancing our wholesale product lines. The day is packed with pivotal meetings, check-ins on manufacturing and our private label distribution partnerships in the US. We’re also deeply involved in the creative process of developing the YL Haircare line, focusing on elements like branding, packaging design and colour selection.

SKIN FIRST
LET’S LOOK AT LED LIGHT THERAPY
If you’re thinking of adding a new service to your menu this season, you should know that, according to a market report by 360 Research Reports, the global LED Light Therapy device industry is set to rise at a considerable rate this year. Read on to find out why and check out Jane Saint, National Trainer and Merchandiser for +maskology’s LED advice.
FIRST OF ALL, WHAT DOES LED MEAN?
LED stands for Light Emitting Diodes.
IS LED LIGHT THERAPY ALWAYS RED?
No, there are actually several different colours that all do different things for different skin issues.
• RED for anti-ageing. Promotes radiant skin by stimulating Collagen production and improving tissue oxygenation that deeply rejuvenates while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Optimal treatment frequency/time: 3 x week, 10 mins Works well with: Vitamin C and Retinol
• BLUE to target Acne. Helps improve the appearance of existing blemishes while minimising future breakouts.
Optimal treatment frequency/time: 2 x week, 20 mins Works well with: Centalla Asiatica (Cica), Niacinamide and Retinol
• YELLOW for brightening. Helps improve the function of oxygen in skin cells, improves microcirculation, helps decompose and dilute pigment, promotes cell regeneration resulting in smoother, brighter skin tone.
Optimal treatment frequency/time: 3 x week, 20 mins Works well with: Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid
• NEAR INFRARED (perceived as red) for pore refinement. Helps increase Collagen production to accelerate the skin metabolism while brightening skin tone, and reducing pore size.
Optimal treatment frequency/time: 3 x week, 10 mins Works well with: Squalane and Vitamin C
• PURPLE (Red & Blue) for anti-ageing and Acne This is a combination of red and blue light that works to fight free radicals, reduce inflammation, improve blood circulation and target acne and blemishes.
Optimal treatment frequency/time: 3 x week, 20 mins Works well with: Retinol, Centalla Asiatica (Cica) and Niacinamide

Why LED Light Therapy is a great addition for any beauty therapist
Meet Jane Saint, National Trainer and Merchandiser for +maskology and expert in LED technology for skin. Here Jane answers the most important questions on this income-boosting service.
CC: Why do you think we’re seeing the rise in LED technology?
JS: LED Light Therapy has been widely used for many years treating all kinds of skin concerns. It is used in our everyday lives without us even realising it – for instance that you see in bathrooms everywhere use blue light to kill bacteria.
The reason it’s on the rise now, is firstly because the technology is so much more accessible and secondly, because consumers are much more educated on what it is. That’s largely due to exposure on social media platforms as well TV Shows like Emily in Paris and reality TV stars often being shown on camera using LED face masks as part of their daily routine.
CC: Can LED tech/masks be used elsewhere on the body?
JS: Yes, while the +maskology Photon LED Mask has been designed to be used on the face, you can also place the mask over various parts of the body that need treating. However, it’s a good idea to ask your client to check with their GP first.
CC: How easy is it for a beauty professional to add LED treatments to their service menu?
JS: It’s so easy to incorporate LED Light Therapy either as a stand-alone treatment or as part of a facial or aesthetic treatment as it’s a non-invasive treatment with no downtime. Because the +maskology Photon LED Mask is portable it’s perfect for salon use as well as mobile therapists. What’s more, you can charge it via a USB so there’s no need to rely on mains power.
CC: Can adding LED services to their treatment menu increase profits for the beauty professional? JS: Yes! It’s a very easy way to increase profits. Once the device has been paid for, the revenue obtained by the beauty professional is pure profit. Also, once the device has been applied, the beauty professional can then carry out other services on their client or even another client.
It’s a great way to maximise on treatment time, while also ensuring return on investment. LED Facial Treatments are averagely priced from £30-£60 and we recommend 2 treatments per week per client for the best results. If your business were to average 10 treatments per week, you could look to see a return of up to £2,400 in revenue per month.
COLOUR CRUSH
The Summer Take On Colour Blocking!
THE GLACIAL ERA IS OVER, following years of ash and cool shades dominating the hair colour trends, warmer and more comforting tones will make a return into hair colour. With the themes of Peach Crush and Strawberry Glaze, this season’s hottest colour trend featuring Wella Professionals rich colour portfolio and a carefully curated palette of shades across our different brands, from the warmest apricot to the coolest pinks.

TEXTURES
AND
We know texture is big news right now, but how does it translate for your male clients? Read on to find out more on the best products and techniques that work best for curls, from the loosest waves to Afro hair.
CURLS
Never before have textures and curls been so popular in men’s hairdressing. You only have to look at the youngest of your clientele, many of whom might be booking in for perms so that they too can rock a mushroom haircut. It’s a look that’s being seen on every high street, and while it’s based on the classic bowl cut, instead of it consisting of a rounded, smooth shape, it’s all about curls that flop over the ears and forehead.
Tapered texture
When it comes to textured hair, whatever the size of the wave or curl, it’s all about using your skills to craft styles and create shapes that flatter the client. For Charles Rose, of Crate, Cheshire, tapering is a great technique to play with.
products to style their hair and to keep the curls looking voluminous, shiny and hydrated. By cocktailing products you literally create a ‘cocktail’ for your client’s styling needs. A favourite cocktail of mine is to combine hair oil/serum with a mousse or gel as together they will give curls definition, hold and shine.
“Side partings are a great option for those with curly hair as they give an effortless yet stylish appearance, and slicking the hair back with gel to create a wave and banish flyaways is a tried and tested technique often worn by those with afro hair.
“I love a fade/taper haircut for those with afro hair. It’s such a unique and modern way to wear an afro and it’s great for those who are looking for a more striking hair shape. The fade will create fullness on top and a fun shape with the contrasting shorter sides. With this style I love to use a wax or control cream to provide the hair with high hold and low shine.
“Finally, for clients with afro hair, a regular go-to would be a protective style such as braids or twists. They are a great option for warmer months or when clients are travelling and they mean a lot less heat styling, and therefore less damage,” says Jim.
Ian Harrold, American Crew Lead Allstar UK & Ireland says what your clients are watching on TV will have a direct impact on how they choose their style this season.
“For clients with wavy hair that want to emulate actors such as Jeremy Allen White from The Bear or Timothée Chalamet from Dune styling products that feel light and moisturising are key. Try using a light hold styling gel with a non-flaking formula to provide shine light control – it will work wonders on both loose waves and textured hair so it’s a real all-rounder” says Ian.
TEXTURE TECHNIQUES
Jim Shaw shares his favourite curl techniques, many of which have been used by those with Afro hair for decades.
Scrunching – a great technique to easily and quickly style curls and give them volume and bounce. Apply gel or mousse to hair and scrunch curls upwards towards the head using the palm of your hand.
Diffusing – using a diffuser on your dryer benefits curls in so many ways – from enhancing volume and adding shine and so much more.
He says: “tapers work well by gradually reducing the hair at the edges while keeping the texture, and this works equally well for every hair type, from loose curls to afro hair. Another option is to keep the top longer and style it forward for a messy look, which suits looser curls. For those who want a tapered style, it’s best to keep some length to maintain texture instead of cutting it too short and losing all that natural texture.”
Jim Shaw, Director of TONI&GUY, Billericay says there are a wealth of options for every type of curl.
“For clients with loose curls or waves, I always suggest that they wear their hair naturally and use a combination of
Finger curling – after you have cleansed and conditioned the clients’ curls, use a curl cream or gel and comb through for even application. In sections, twirl/coil hair around your finger until they have tightly spiralled and then release the curl allowing it to fall into shape.
Plopping – a good styling choice to help hold curl pattern and to dry hair without heat. This involves wrapping the hair in a micro-fibre towel or t-shirt and ‘scrunching’ to the top of the head to keep curls clumped in place, resulting in volumised and defined curls.
Texture-specific products
The key to unlocking the best from your client’s textured hair is all in the prep and the products. For Ryan Lewis of Club Thirteen, Hull, it’s about having an array of curl-friendly products to hand.
“I prefer using a curl cream, and occasionally I go for a matte paste or a fibre pomade, depending on the finish that I’m after. But it’s not only about how it looks; it’s about using products that benefit the hair.
“Curly hair is prone to dryness which can result in frizz and split ends, and once it’s damaged, it’s harder to make the most of a style. For me, it’s about using products to prevent damage and keep the hair from becoming dry.”
ADVICE FROM
LEADING BARBERS
ON HOW TO MASTER YOUR MALE CLIENTELE
Alan Beak and Dean Gleeson share expert advice on how the right tools optimise the standard and ease of your male cuts.
Alan Beak’s Toolkit Essentials
As a barber we learn so much about hair, as well as a plethora of tips and techniques to create a huge variety of styles, but really, it’s all about using the right tools for the job.
After two decades of trying, testing, and experimenting, I’ve come to learn that as the industry grows and evolves, so do companies like Wahl. It’s a brilliant example of a brand that has innovated and consistently delivered increasingly better equipment for us that truly makes cutting easier, more comfortable and with better results.
It’s not just innovation that Wahl offers; it also offers me variety, because there’s no one tool that’s going to do every job well. Here are two of my favourite tools.
MY EVERYDAY MUST-HAVE CLIPPER IS THE WAHL
SENIOR , a heavy-duty clipper with metal in its housing it feels solid and substantial in your hand. This is a true work horse that’s going to facilitate high volumes of work. Its power means less strokes are needed as it takes away the hair so efficiently.
I like to use this for bulk removal and more intense clipper work, such as hair that is overgrown and needs large amounts of clipper over comb and back-to-back fades. What’s more, you can also use the Senior flat to the scalp and with guards on, making it a very versatile option.
MY SECOND MUST HAVE CLIPPER FOR FADING IS THE WAHL MAGIC CLIP. When it comes to working flat to the scalp, like for fading,
creating smooth transitions and soft blending, there’s no better tool than this. With its Crunch Blade Technology, it can crunch through guidelines, creating softer and smoother transitions – it’s called Crunch Blade Technology for a reason! When you’re working on such an intricate process, seeing and hearing where you’re at with your cut gives you maximum opportunity to create the most perfect result. The Crunch Blade emits audio feedback which enables you to physically hear when hair has been fully blended out, and that ‘crunch’ noise fades out as the demarcation line disappears.
Here’s Which Trimmer Will Get You the Sharpest Finish
Every haircut Dean Gleeson creates is finished with perfect lines, here’s how he does it. I know the thought of using trimmers can be scary when you’re not used to them, but with a bit of practice you’ll be giving your clients the sharpest, most-polished cuts.
If you’re just getting started with trimmers WAHL’S A-LIGN TRIMMER is the best place to start. It’s a new addition to the core 5 Star range and I can honestly say it’s a perfect all round trimmer. It has a softer blade than other trimmers while being Precision Ground to create clean hits with every stroke or touch.
This means you can use it on any skin type and be confident that it will produce sharp results with zero irritation or nicks. When working on precise lines and details it’s important to have full control over your trimmer in terms of visibility and handling.
The A-Lign has a slim neck and body which gives you amazing visibility to hit every line plus, it’s so easy to hold and feels light and comfortable. When tools are this easy to use, you create your best work.

BLONDE
PERSONALITIES
While blonde might be a universally popular hair colour choice, it’s definitely not a case of one size fits all. Read on for our concise guide to the types of blonde your clients might be feeling this season.
#1 Dirty blonde
This is all about texture and has its roots in punk and pop from the ‘80s. Dirty blondes don’t want a super clean, global colour – they literally want to look like they could easily be part of a rock band.
WHO WEARS IT BEST?
Look to past musical icons such as Madonna or Blondie for blondes with extreme dark roots, or check out the usuallybrunette Billie Eilish; when she goes blonde, she loves to wear it cool with deep dark tones.
#2 Fun blonde
This is the blonde client who can never ‘just’ be blonde –instead they yearn to stand out from the crowd via injections of candy pink and violet or bold greens and blues. With this client it’s all in the consultation as you need to know how blonde they want to go, and which fun colours they want to complement or contrast with it.
WHO WEARS IT BEST?
Megan Fox, Rita Ora and Khloe Kardashian all love to rock a pretty pink tint with their blondes.
#3 Clean blonde
Clean isn’t necessarily about colour, it’s about quality. Clean blonde can be icy white and bleached, it can be platinum, or a pale straw tone or an all-over silver blonde. It’s not about depth at the roots or using a variety of tones to create texture. It’s all about a flawless result that can only come from a pro.
Tim Scott Wright says he likes his clean blondes bleached! “Bleached blondes are bright and bold and offer a real wow factor. Take inspiration from celebrities such as Beyonce, who has been rocking a new bleached blonde wig lately – it really makes a real statement.”
WHO WEARS IT BEST?
Your clients can go for vintage inspo in the form of the Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, or look to modern day Barbie Margot Robbie for a fresh new take.
#4 Warm blonde
This is your beach blonde that’s more caramel than bleach. Think of the warmth of the sun, and the warmth of a tan; this is all about enhancing the skintone with golden hour vibes.
Tim Scott Wright says: “Sunkissed, blonde babylights and balayage are a great low maintenance option, especially for those going on holiday who just want a little lift. Warm tones are ideal for anyone who doesn’t want to worry about root growth and they like to leave longer gaps in between appointments.”
How to help your client pick the right blonde personality, with Suzie McGill, Artistic Director at Rainbow Room International.
Blondes never go out of style and there’s a shade to suit everyone’s skin tone, personality and lifestyle!
FOR THOSE WHO PREFER A COOL TONED BLONDE: advise that they opt for a blonde that’s more icy or ashy in colour, or one that has a beautiful pearl tone to it. For this type of shade, I would suggest highlights and then toning the hair to create the perfect cool toned hue.
FOR THOSE WHO PREFER A WARM TONED BLONDE: whether that’s honey blonde, buttery blonde or a bronde hue, again this can be created using highlights followed by a warmer toner. Balayage is a great low maintenance option as it’s more natural and gives a real sun-kissed finish.
Amy Viette of AV Tailored Therapies agrees with Tim; ‘this look is all about creating a lower maintenance natural, sun-kissed effect on the hair and it’s super easy for clients to manage.”
Bonus point for warm blondes? It works really well with a touch of copper or strawberry blonde!
WHO WEARS IT BEST?
Blake Lively rocks her long, sumptuous waves in shades of blonde that are always warm, never cool. Model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is also a firm believer in warm shades for a soft, romantic look.
FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR A SUPER CLEAN, GLOBAL BLONDE: whether they want platinum or the trending ‘Barbie blonde’ they will need to book in for a pre-lighten or bleach all over the head followed by a toner. This will require more upkeep as the root will come through more harshly, however, it’s great for those who like their blonde to be one tone all over without dimension or depth.

COLOUR CRUSH
Summer means hot days at the beach and refreshing tipples by the pool – so of course the season’s colour inspiration is coming straight from the bar. We’re sipping Cherry Cola and Fuzzy Peach cocktails…
Cherry Cola – what is it?
Think of this as any icy cold can of Cherry Coke on a sweltering day, rich and dark brunette tones with a gorgeous red gloss on top. This isn’t fire engine red; it’s rooted in cherries, strawberries and burgundy and works well on any skin tone.
Revlon Professional Global Ambassador Mark Leeson says the key to this colour trend is a glossy finish.
“This is high-shine hair that will have everyone talking so it’s great for clients who want to make a statement. What’s great about this colour trend is that, whether short or long, thick or fine, straight, curly, or afro, it’s suitable for all hair types. In terms of pre-existing colour, it works best on medium to dark hair,” advises Mark.
Gemma Davers of Bloom Lifestyle in Glasgow says Cherry Cola is the new Copper Cowboy.
“The warm red hues of this rich, deep red hair colour really accentuate green and blue eyes. My pro tip would be to always remember that vibrant red shades will need
more maintenance so it’s important to pass this on to clients.”
For Amy Viette of AV Tailored Therapies, Cherry Cola hair is the perfect blend of deep red and brunette hues.
“Together these shades give the hair the most beautiful, deep burgundy colour. It’s a great choice for those who want to add a pop of colour to their hair without going overboard. The best thing about this colour trend is that it complements most skin tones,” says Amy.
Safy B agrees with Amy on Cherry Cola being an easy option.
“I love this gorgeous cross between a very dark brunette and cherry red. A really great, statement way to wear it is to weave in highlights or even develop the shades into a balayage, or perhaps use freehand colour paneling through the hair. All of these offer an even easier way to be part of the trend without huge commitment,” says Safy.
Fuzzy Peach – what is it?
Pantone, the internationally recognised authority on colour and how we use it, recently announced that the 2024 Pantone Colour of the Year was Peach Fuzz and everyone is embracing this warm, romantic tone.
Described as a velvety gentle peach shade that oozes warmth and youth, it’s the perfect shade to create for clients who love to get involved with the latest trends and as Rio Agor-Watts, Group Education Manager UKI for Revlon Professional Brands says, the colour is “a dream come true for hairdressers. It playfully revolves
around a much-loved orange hue and has pops of pink mixed in as well. It embodies warmth but in just the right amount.”
Rio expands further on how the Peach Fuzz trend makes sense as a natural evolution from the warm shades we witnessed last year.
“In 2023, we witnessed a growing trend of warm and rich blondes with buttery and California caramel hues taking centre stage. Now we’re seeing the trend towards warmth continuing with Peach Fuzz and it’s a great option for blondes who want to achieve a soft, comforting peach blonde look, rather than the cool, clean results we’ve seen previously,” says Rio.
Suzie McGill, Artistic Director at Rainbow Room International says Peach Fuzz is a truly versatile shade.
“the key to this trend is to ensure you adapt the hue slightly to suit any skin tone. It’s also a great shade for men who want to experiment with creative colour and inject some fun into their look.
“For those with a darker base, you will need to pre-lighten their hair to achieve this pastel tone but before that, you will need to ensure their hair is in the best condition possible before going through the lightening process.
“Alternatively, clients with a dark base can experiment with peach highlights or balayage – this will add a gorgeous warmth and glow to their complexion, as well as depth and dimension. Also, this hue blends out beautifully making it a great low maintenance option than some of the brighter, more vivid orange and red hues,” says Suzie.

FOR RIGHT NOW NAIL TRENDS TOP
The nail industry is one of the most creative, non-stop trend-led industries out there. Make sure you’re up to date with all the trends with our top 10 guide.
#1 Micros and minis
After all the maximalism of 2023, it only makes sense that we start to zoom in on the tiny details this year. Get practising because this is all about creating the skinniest, smoothest micro French tips. An easy way to play with this look is to start with a neutral base colour, then using your thinnest brush in a complementary shade of teal, peach – whatever you like – draw a line a third of the way down the nail for a reimagined take on the French.
#3 #Cottagecore
This is one of those trends that has made its way from interiors to crockery to clothing and finally to nails. Think delicate floral patterns and prints and even tiny real flowers encapsulated under clear gels. You can even bring in tiny bows and lace accents. It’s a beautiful trend that was seen on the catwalk too and is the perfect look for clients who want something both pretty and not too much.
#2 Blush nails
The gorgeous blush trend is a natural evolution of last year’s lipgloss nails and is very similar to aura nails in its softness. The perfect colour options for this pretty trend are natural nudes and pinks that fade into one another.
#4 Metallics
Blame it on Beyonce! Metallics, specifically silver and gold are back again. Beyonce had us rocking silver throughout 2023 in the run-up to her Renaissance album and tour and a natural alternative option for metallic lovers has to be gold. Both of these shades are the perfect glam complement to a Summer tan and work just as well all over the nail or as intricate nail art against nudes and blacks.
#5 Oyster nails
This delicately pretty trend is a natural follow-on from #mermaidcore, but instead of sea-inspired colours, it’s all about pink, gold and peach duo-chrome, sheer shades that shimmer in the light like an oyster’s shell and mother of pearl. This could be such a beautiful bridal look too – just don’t forget your ultra glossy topcoat.
#7 Short and square
Not every nail client is interested in length – in fact, some of your regulars might be thinking of taking a break from acrylics and extensions. A short, squared off nail is the perfect solution for anyone wanting to take on minimalism; think of it as the grown-up version of the clean girl aesthetic. Clients can play with any block colour and should also be encouraged to invest in cuticle oil to keep nails looking neat.
#6 See-through 3D
Heavily inspired by Japanese and Korean nail techniques this is all about creating layers of polish – from magnetic to jelly – and adding beads, swirls, bows and more using your favourite builder gel for a knock-out 3D effect. A simpler way to play with the trend is to use your gels to create a water droplet effect.
#8 Aura nails
Thanks to TikTok the aura nail is one of those trends that isn’t going anywhere. For 2024 it’s getting upgraded with rhinestones, crystals and 3D embellishment and the colour combinations will become more intricate. Get your airbrush ready!
#10 Summer Vibes
It’s time to embrace the hottest shades in your kit, hot pinks, spicy reds, vibrant oranges and sunshine yellows will put every client in a good mood. These shades work especially well with the aura trend and if you need some new shades, be sure to check out the brand new collection from TMC., Summer
#9 Pink!
That’s right, the Barbie effect still isn’t over!
For TMC Educator Kelly-Marie Daly, pink isn’t going anywhere this year. She says: “Pinks are the hottest trend right now, from bright baby pinks to strong hot pinks. One of my favourite TMC collections has to be the Power of Pink – so many gorgeous shades to choose from!”
STEP INTO S U M M E R !
Read on for 4 pages fully focused on your summer clientele – and it all starts with tailored tanning…
Summer lovin’ tan
Tanning is no longer the domain of people with pale skin wanting to look holiday ready; now women of colour are also getting in on the action because a spray tan can even out skin tone and give everyone a glow. So, the key is to ensure each tan is tailored to the client, and you do that by asking the right questions. The goal is to find out if the client wants something subtle, something golden or something super deep.
A LIGHTER TOUCH
This is the lightest end of the tanning spectrum and is ideal for clients of colour who are feeling like their skin is looking dull and lifeless after a Winter spent inside.
GOLDEN MEDIUM
CAPITAL TANNING FAVES!
Shop from a wide range of brands including Sienna X, MineTan, Bondi Sands and more.
You might find a lot of your male clients book in for a medium toned tan – they will likely want to look refreshed and athletic, rather than looking like they’ve just spent a month in the sun.
DEEP AND DARK
The deepest tones are often seen on bodybuilders who need to show off every
muscle, but you will also have regulars who love to look like they live somewhere exotic all year round. Still, it’s important to encourage your client to have realistic goals and find the most flattering tan for their skin tone, eyes and hair colouring.
When it comes to working out what a client is going for, ask them if they can show you an image – it will help you define what they need and also work out if their request is realistic based on their existing skin tone.
The perfect prep
There’s no point getting your client booked in for a gorgeous golden tan if they’ve forgotten what exfoliating means!
Once the client is booked in it’s vital that you advise them to exfoliate their skin 1 to 3 times a week in advance, and advise them to go for a more intense option a day or two before. This will ensure that there are no dead, dull skin cells clinging
to their body, which will only result in a patchy, grimy looking finish. Smoother, softer skin means a smoother, longerlasting tan.
Hydrate and highlight
Once you’ve achieved your client’s golden goals, the key to keeping it going is to keep skin hydrated at all times. Advise them to layer up their bodycare postshower by applying a body oil on top of their favourite lotion. And to ensure their tan is glowing over, show them how they can use their trusted makeup highlighter on areas like their clavicles, shoulders, arms and legs.

A SMOOTHER
SUMMER SEASON
Hair trends come and go but one thing that almost always goes is body hair, especially in the summer months…
When it comes to waxing, you’ll have your regular bookers and then you’ll have your ‘special occasion’ clients who only book in when they’ve got a holiday or special event coming up. Whatever their frequency, the most important thing is to encourage them to book in at key moments ahead of the event. For instance, for the special occasion client, suggest that they book in for two visits; one should be a month in advance and the second can be booked in a few days ahead of their occasion.
You might also notice an influx of male clients for the summer months, so be sure you have a wide array of waxes at hand to deal with any and all areas of the body.
For instance, when it comes to larger areas, such as the legs, strip wax makes for fast, efficient results. For intimate areas, a stripless hot wax is ideal as it completely encapsulates each hair, can be removed in almost any direction, and leaves no sticky residue.
The perfect finish
The best way to end a waxing treatment is to give your client a gorgeous body lotion or oil treat. Try the
Salon System Just Wax After Wax Oil with Tea Tree : formulated with natural antiseptic Tea Tree and soothing lavender, waxed skin is left feeling refreshed, hydrated and protected. Always remind your client to keep skin exfoliated to minimise ingrown hairs and keep skin glowing.
Pro tip: Don’t forget, if your waxing client is headed off on their holidays they must wear high SPF to protect the skin as it will likely be more sensitised for a few days after their treatment.

BROWS
Brows have become one of the most popular ways for clients to express their personality and style. Here Ruth Aktins, Lash Expert and Salon System Educator shares her thoughts on the ultimate brow trends.
Much like fashion trends, eyebrow trends come and go very quickly and are often inspired by what we see on the runway.
Back in 2015 we had the heavy ‘Instagram brow’ and more recently we’ve seen a return to the super skinny ’90 brows, not to mention bleached brows going mainstream!
I think this year will see popularity grow around the laminated brow, but rather than lifting them to their full capacity I think brow technicians will be laminating within precise borders, using micro lining and mapping to create a well-groomed brow that’s super streamlined and neat.
This, alongside a precise brow tint with maximum skin stainage will create a full, filled-in powder brow.
I also think there could be a major fashion influence that will show up in the form of ultra skinny brows – like the ones we saw makeup artist Pat Mcgrath create at the Margiela haute couture show in January
CAPITAL BROW FAVES!
Shop all your brow needs from brands such as RefectoCil, Salon System MarvelBrow, Combinal and Babe Lash
– as well as embellished brows. I’m thinking glitters, sequins and crystals which can easily be applied with a strip lash glue.
Tinting the skin when doing a brow tint application is going to be big in 2024 because time-poor clients will book in longer lasting results that can be achieved with a semi-permanent make-up technique without the need for needles.
I also see custom colour tinted brows coming into their own as more brow techs are feeling confident thanks to the vast array of shades at their disposal. No longer do brows need to be 50 shades of brown! We now have red, chestnut, and graphite to add warmth or coolness.
LASHES, NATURALLY
Lashes have been going through a metamorphosis of late. Thanks to constant innovation, clients can enjoy Manga Lashes, spider lashes, or the very latest trend, which is all about a natural, fluffy finish.
Whether your clients love a false lash or prefer mascara, the new focus for lashes is all about building better natural lashes which can be worn as simply as possible. As such, many of your clients will no doubt be asking your advice on which lash serums and treatments they should try. With the focus on creating healthier natural lashes, clients are likely to move away from heavy, mega lash strips and instead will look to enhance what they have with wispy ‘angel’ lashes or individual lashes and clusters.
CAPITAL LASH FAVES!
As well as Tatti shop our full range of lash products from Salon System Naturalash, Ardell, Lash FX and more.
Subtle treatments
Although the move towards natural lashes is set to grow, many of your clients will still be looking for options that save time when they’ve got a holiday to enjoy. One treatment that is ideal for anyone off on their holidays is the always in-style lash lift; designed to literally lift and open up the eyes.
Another brilliant, natural-looking enhancement that’s ideal for the holidays is the lash tint. Clients can forego countless coats of mascara with a lash tint that’s applied for you in a shade that complements their eye colour to make them pop.

SUMMER SERVICES
IS IT TIME TO SWITCH UP YOUR MENU?
Whether you’re a salon owner or a freelancer, it’s important to regularly review your menu and check whether it’s serving your clients and your bottom line. Read on for some expert tips to guide you in the right direction.
SEASONAL UPDATE
Summer brings its own unique hair and beauty challenges, so clients might be looking for different treatments to help them feel and their best as the weather heats up.
Many of your clients will want to lighten their hair during the summer months for that sun-kissed look, so consider offering different colour packages to fit with the season. When it comes to your beauty services, summer is always about looking fresh and natural, so be sure to have services such as lash lifts and lash and brow tinting on the menu to enhance the eyes without the need for makeup.
CONSTANTLY EVOLVING
Changing with the seasons is a great opportunity to test out new products and services and also increase your revenue.”
Amy Viette, AV Tailored TherapiesSUMMER PACKAGES
Regularly reviewing your services is so important to ensure you are offering your clients the services that they want and to ensure you are making money and profit for your business.
By taking a look at your software system you can easily identify which services are not being booked by clients as often and if you wish, you can replace them with some new services that are perhaps trending or even ask your clients – asking them to fill out a feedback questionnaire after an appointment could reveal your next big service.
For summer in particular, clients are looking to book in for multiple appointments in the lead up to their summer holidays and events such as weddings and festivals. With that in mind, it’s a great idea to offer a summer package so the client can book in for several services at once.
If you’re strictly hair, a summer package could be a hair colour, cut and treatment or a hair service such as colour plus a hair-up or blowdry. For example, at ROAR, we have an Express Coverage service for clients which offers a root touch up between colour services plus an express blowdry. We also have our Glow Dry service, which is great for those who want to inject some high shine into their base shade.
If you offer beauty services, consider packages that include both hair and beauty to ensure clients come to you for all of their hair and beauty needs.
Brian Leo McCallum, owner of ROAR Hair & BeautyThe world of hairdressing is in a state of constant evolution; things are forever progressing and new services are being unveiled so it makes sense that this also applies to your service menu.
Perhaps you’ve noticed that some items on your service list aren’t requested anymore, or that some could do with updating slightly. It’s so important to stay relevant while also ensuring that you continue to deliver key services that meet the needs and requirements of your clientele.
When it comes to summer, think outside the box a little; consider hydration packages or perhaps a new style menu for clients to try or to attract new ones.
