AWest Feliciana High student who ran track and played football died Friday morning in asingle vehicle crash.
The early-morning crash on La. 78,westofLa. 1 in Pointe Coupee Parish, claimed the life of Rayshon M. Franklin Jr., who was entering his senior year at West Feliciana High.
Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop Aresponded to asingle-vehicle crash. His football coachsaid Franklin’steam and coaches will miss his infectious smile, and have decided to dedicate the upcoming season to Franklin.
“Weare devastated by the loss of our brother and teammate RayshonFranklin,” coach DevinDecote. “Rayshon was agreat young man who loved to compete on the field and on the track. He wasa highly respectedand trustworthy teammate. He was avery hard worker and extremely respectful. Rayshon had an infectious smile that could lightuparoom
“He was the type of young man you wanted on your team,and he will be missed tremendously,”the coach added.
The preliminary investigation indicated that a2007 Toyota Camry,driven by Franklin, was traveling eastbound on La. 78, west of La. 1. For reasons still under investigation,the Toyota exited the roadway to the right, entered aditch, overturned, and then struck atree.
Franklin, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Impairment is not suspected, however,standard toxicology samples will be taken and submitted for analysis. Thiscrash remains under investigation.
“Rayshon was astudent athlete who played football and ran track,” said West Feliciana Schools Superintendent Hollis Milton. “Rayshon was known as awell mannered, kind student who always had asmile. Please pray for his family and friends andour community.”

theBrain and Calci M. Boneentertained thestudentsmonthly with stories and activities about human organs. The kindergartners became members of the Green Thumb Club. They learnedabout MyPlate and the five food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy that Langley highlighted each month Children learned about the foodsineach group andthe benefitsofconsuming them. Activities like the Great Grain Obstacle and the Colors of the Rainbow reinforced thelessons
on grains and fruits and vegetables. At the end of each lesson, Langley reinforcedthe nutrition lessonwithitems such as an apple bookmark, apencil with fruits and vegetables, and a food tray sticker with breakfast item stickers forthe children to place on each part of the tray Langley also sent home nutrition resources to the parents and guardians each month.
At the start of the school year, students helped prepare the10 raisedbeds for planting. The pre-Kand kindergartnersplant-
ed kale; carrot andradishseeds; andcucumber, broccoliand cabbage transplants. They helped water and care forthe plants.
In April,the pre-K students participated in agarden scavenger hunt. They worked in teams to find items in the garden that werecertain colors. Most of the teams found the shovel when asked to locate something red in the garden. The kindergartners also participated in ascavenger hunt.
