ecouvillion@theadvocate.com GONZALES — At its meeting next week, on Tuesday, the Ascension Parish School Board will vote on whether to purchase a 6½-acre tract of property near Dutchtown High that would give students and faculty another route for getting on

and off campus. Board members discussed the property at a workshop Tuesday evening. The seller, A&M Properties of Baton Rouge, a partnership of George Aime Jr. and James Mire, and the School Board have a property purchase agreement in place, according to documents provided to

board members. The proposed purchase price is $200,100, a price within the appraised value, said Chad Lynch, planning and construction director for the school system. The 6.42-acre site is on the west side of Carrie Lane, off of La. 74 in Geismar. The owners first notified the

School Board in July 2014 that they were selling the property and gave the board first choice. Currently, the only entrance and exit for Dutchtown High is onto La. 73, which runs in front of the school. The property the board is considering purchasing would offer an entryway onto La. 74, Lynch said. “It could also be used for overflow parking and practice, he said of the site.
