Share your celebrations with us The holidays are family time for many in our area. Bountiful family dinners, festive gathering and gala parties take up much of our time until the end of the year. The Advocate family extends holiday greetings to our readers. As you get together in the next few weeks, don’t forget to share a few photos with The Advocate. CATS holiday hours

The Capital Area Transit System (CATS) will run an abbreviated schedule on Thursday, with service ending at 8 p.m. CATS will be closed Friday and return to its normal schedule Saturday. Call (225) 389-8282 or visit brcats.com.

Library holiday closures

The Carver, Eden Park, Main and River Center libraries are closed Thursday and Friday for Christmas, as well as Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 for New Year’s.

BREC holiday hours

BREC’s administrative offices at 6201 Florida Blvd. will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Christmas holiday. Normal operating hours will resume at all BREC facilities on Monday. All golf courses, Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, Cohn Arboretum and Magnolia Mound Plantation will close on Christmas Day. Highland Road Park Observatory will be closed Thursday through Saturday and Baton Rouge Gallery will be closed Friday through Jan. 4. Baton Rouge Zoo, Independence Park Theatre and Farr Park Equestrian Center will be closed Thursday and Friday and all recreation centers will close at noon Thursday and remain closed Friday. The BMX track and rock climbing wall at Perkins Road Extreme Park will close Thursday and Friday, while the skate park will remain open both days. LSU Lab School raises over $10K

cfutch@theadvocate.com Philanthropy and service to community have long been a part of the LSU Laboratory School’s culture, said Adrienne Gale, project manager of the school’s Centennial Celebration. Gale has documented service projects as far back as the 1940s, she said, and it’s a component the school tries to incorporate early on in the education process. This year, LSU Lab School celebrated 100 years since its founding and, as part of the

centennial year, asked the student body to raise at least $10,000 for good causes during the holiday season. The project, $100 for 100, challenged at least 100 groups on campus to fundraise a minimum of $100 each for a charity of their choosing. “I’m proud to say we exceeded that goal,” Gale said, with 113 clubs, groups, classes or organizations within the school coming up with their own fundraising ideas and successfully turning in the $100 minimum, and in many cases, more. “Some raised money for St.

The Baton Rouge Police Department provided new toys for the 418 students at Bernard Terrace Elementary on Friday. The gifts were purchased by personnel throughout the Police Department as part of their fifth annual school adoption event. Santa Claus arrived at Bernard Terrace in a SWAT vehicle.
