Message from Board President, John Daniels: Good day and happy “Pride Season” Capital Region. The past 2+ years have been incredibly challenging for us, and we know many of you. Many of our sister organizations across the country have closed. We are headed towards the upside now. Our amazing staff and a few volunteers got the Pride Center through one of its bleakest times in its 50+ year history. Yet, we remained committed to continuing to offer services to all of you. In early 2022 the Pride Center was successful in hiring a new executive director (Nathaniel). That was a major step in the rebuilding and re-alignment of the Pride Center. We understand there were challenges prior to the pandemic. Our new and energized board and amazing staff led by a truly enthusiastic Executive Director are all working to take the corrective actions and grow the center to best service our 9-counties. We ask that you bring your concerns and ideas to us. We’re here to listen, and we’re here to help. We will be listening and working with those ideas in hand. How? Phone us, email us, or even better stop by our building in Albany and visit. Become involved as a volunteer. Sign up for our newsletters and emails and come to our community forums we are planning after Pride, later in the summer of 22. What do we promise; our board, volunteers, and staff are here to help our entire LGBTQ community. The Center is here for the mental, physical health, and well-being of everyone in the LGBTQ community even our allies. We are here to collaborate with our other community partners to provide much-needed support, services, and programs to our community. Positive changes are in the works. We thank all of you. I mentioned “pride season” above because we are adding more events for pride into July, August and September. Please keep your eyes on the www.518capitalpridewebsite for updates. Pride should be a season not just a few days or a week or a month. Thank you! Please, safely enjoy the Festival, Parade, 5k and more. -John Daniels, Board President

Message from new Executive Director, Nathaniel Gray: As a social worker, I’ve now had the chance to work at all three levels of practice: micro, mezzo, and macro. Micro level work is sitting across from an actively street homeless youth in New York City, often Black or brown, often transgender, and always being punished directly by society for being who they truly are. Those youth made me ask, “how do we change laws or policies to fix this?” and led me to work directly with New York State government in policies for LGBTQ+ youth; this is macro practice. Instead of sitting opposite one young person, I was reading research and reports about the dozens, hundreds, and sometimes thousands of LGBTQ+ youth who experience systems like foster care, juvenile justice, and homeless shelters at disproportionate rates, again, often for being who they truly are, and also again, often Black and brown or transgender. This work was also about educating the people who run and uphold these systems; people who regularly say they want to know better so they can do better. These interactions made me ask, “where can these vital institutions go with LGBTQ+ questions on a local level?” and led me to the Pride Center of the Capital Region, and the great work they’ve been doing here for 52 years. Running a nonprofit is mezzo practice.; we have to blend the important parts of the other two in order to be successful. We must listen to the individual, and advocate up for their needs. In this position I look forward to meeting more of our amazing community, hearing about the issues we’re facing on a daily basis, and then lifting up our community’s needs to affect lasting, structural changes. Sometimes this happens in a big way, like meeting with the Governor’s office and other LGBTQ+ stakeholders to discuss statewide issues of systemic oppression. Other times this is sitting with a policy director at a medical facility, helping them understand the importance of chosen names and pronouns in safe healthcare. Regardless, the work is to listen to your stories, your goals, your needs, and to find ways, big or small, to make the Capital Region more safe and more affirming for all of you, and I look forward to it. -Nathaniel Gray, Executive Director

Pride Center Board of Directors John Daniels, Board President (He/Him/ His) Life log resident of the region. My journey with the Pride Center started when I came out 10 years ago. My board service along with my service to many nonprofits has had a focus on our youth, physical and mental wellbeing, and access. The Pride Center took on a special role for me in meeting and talking with many of the individuals of all ages that utilize our services and programs. In meeting these people, I reenergize my energy for fundraising. We must have amazing staff to offer our services, I have always believed my job as a volunteer starts with helping to ensure we can do the good by being funded to operate with the best team we can find. We have come far in many protections especially in NYS. However, we are sadly reminded of the erosion and battle to our rights each day. Especially to our trans community members and those in a more challenging mental, physical or financial position. Like many of us, our board service time requires support at home. Thank you, Christopher, for letting me do what I love for our community. Ulysses deArmas, Co Vice President (He/Him/His) I’m Co-Vice President of the Board. I’ve lived in the Capital Region off and on for about 25 years. I work as an Associate Director of Admissions at RPI in Troy. The Pride Center was instrumental in my coming out process 17 years ago. I was a regular member of the Men’s Group on Monday nights. I started volunteering at the Center because I wanted to give back to the place that helped me during the most difficult period of my life. Along the way, I’ve met so many wonderful people. Thank you, Pride Center, for saving my life! Scott Levine, Co Vice President (He/Him/His) Volunteering for the Board of Directors as Co-Vice President and working on the Capital Pride steering committee for over a dozen years, I hope the goals we attempt to achieve has had a direct positive effect on those community members in the most need, and in doing so, we have also influenced the next generation of volunteers, activists and supporters to continue the amazing work of Pride Center’s staff, interns and board. Stephanie Slominski – CIA CFE, Treasurer (She/Her) Stephanie has been involved with the Pride Center since she moved to Albany in January 2002. She started in the role of volunteer staffer at the Café and has since been the janitor, a board member and is the current Board Treasurer today. She is a Certified Internal Auditor and Fraud Examiner full time and works part time preparing tax returns in her own private practice. She also works at a local haunted attraction as a jump scare and makeup artist during the fall. She also sits on the Board of Directors for the Association for Government Accountants (AGA) and is involved in extreme sports, including Taekwondo, and paintball. Favorite vacation spots are Coney Island and Las Vegas where she visits frequently with her 21-year-old daughter, Raindrop. Meghan Baxter, LMSW, Secretary (She/Her/Hers) Hi there! After graduating with my MSW from SUNY Albany and relocating to the Capital Region for an employment opportunity, a colleague introduced me to the Pride Center. New to board membership but eager to serve, I joined the board of directors early 2018. Since, I have been dedicated to furthering and diversifying services, accessibility, and representation for, and within, the Pride Center and larger LGBTQIA+ community. I continue to serve on the board because now, more than ever, we (especially us younger folks!) need to dig our heels deep, show up, be loud, and advocate like hell. I currently work as a psychiatric social worker at Albany Med and continue to live in the Capital Region with my fiancé Natalie and our fur babes Dottie, Oakley, and Monte. Maggie Morrison, Board Member, Saratoga Liaison (She/Her/Hers) I joined the Pride Center board because for years I benefited from all the events they provided in our community. I decided it was time for me to do my part in helping the Pride Center in our community.

Pride Center Board of Directors Atsushi Akera, Board Member (She/Her) Co-founder and General Manager of Cafe Euphoria, a transgender and gender non-conforming owned and operated restaurant located in downtown Troy. She joined the Pride Center Board after discussing the importance of trans representation on the Board at a community meeting hosted by the Board. She serves on the Board's Governance Committee, and in that role she has continued to focus on board representation, inclusion, equity, and policy changes designed to better enable the Center to serve the entire spectrum of our diverse yet connected LGBTQIA+ communities. She is also an active member and alternate facilitator of the Trans Pride support group at the Pride Center. Lance Rider, Board Member (He/Him/His) A member since June of 2018, I joined the board to help those in the community that need the most assistance, those most in need. Through my role as principal owner of ROCKS and a bartender, I create a connection of the many people that I see and talk with face to face. Those interactions drove me as a primary reason to extoll the virtues and programs of the Center. Additionally, as an administrative employee for the Albany County Department of Mental Health, connecting resources from both sides is a rewarding opportunity. The Center and its free mental health services are something I am proud to champion for our community. Victoria Esposito, Board Member (She/Her/Hers) I am a local attorney, and I serve on the Board because I remember what it was like for my LGBTQ+ friends and family decades ago. It's important to me to do everything I can to support the community and keep this a better world. When not working, I love my family, travel, my garden, and a crisp white wine.

Matthew Kishpaugh, Board Member (He/Him/His) Originally from NY’s Southern Tier, but spent most of my childhood in rural Potsdam, NY. I moved to Albany in September 2006 and attended UAlbany for my MBA. I have worked for Regeneron Pharmaceuticals for the past 15 years, where he was a founding member of the ReLGBTQ+ Employee Interest Group, now the LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group and is also a member of Regeneron’s DEI Mid-Level Leadership Council. I live with his fiancé and partner of 11 years, Hazem, in Center Square. I joined the Pride Center to get actively involved in community-based volunteer work and to give back to the Albany LGBTQ+ community. Jeremy Bond, Board Member (He/Him/His) I moved to Albany in June of 2010 without knowing that Capital Pride would be that same weekend. It was the first pride I ever attended. I learned more about myself and the diversity of our community than I ever realized in that first weekend in a new city. Fast forward to today, I work with the Pride Center to help ensure that that experience and support endures for everyone. Pride is a time to be reminded of our strength, resolve, and great amount of progress that we’ve made. It’s also a sobering reminder of the immense amount of work left for us to do especially for our Youth and Trans family members. I’m committed to seeing that work through alongside you and the community. Eric Wilke, Board Member (He/ Him/His) As a lawyer that has fought for workers’ rights for fifteen years, I volunteer to support my family and my community. When one of us does better we all do better. Supporting the LGBTQ+ community in the Capital District also supports the rest of our community around us. We are all husbands, wives, sisters, brothers, sons, and daughters, whether by relation or our chosen family. It is my pleasure to stand with you and for

us all.

armit Bachar is an American singer, performer, television personality and philanthropist, well known as the only original member of the multi-platinum, Grammynominated recording group The Pussycat Dolls. She was a lead vocalist of the group along with Nicole Scherzinger and Melody Thornton. She became an international pop sensation The Pussycat Dolls’ chart-topping hit singles including “Don’t Cha,” “Buttons,” and “StickWitU.” She also featured with the Dolls in several episodes of the hit reality show ‘The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll’. As a founding member of The Pussycat Dolls cabaret show, Carmit performed as a singer and dancer along with many guest stars like Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra, Charlize Theron, Paris Hilton, and others. She also appeared with the group in several films and television shows including ‘Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,’ ‘Las Vegas,’ ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’, and ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’. Carmit was a member of the Pussycat Dolls longer than any other performer, being that she started in 1995 with the Burlesque show. In 2002, she brought her friend Gwen Stefani to perform at the Pussycat Dolls show. Stefani brought along Interscope’s Ron Fair and Jimmy Iovine. Later, the Dolls got signed at Interscope Records. She was also the first doll to be signed into the recording group. Most of the then members, includ-

ing lead singer Nicole Scherzinger and back-up singer Melody Thornton, were cast by co-founder Robin Antin in 2003, when the group was being transformed into pop recording artists. In 2006 and 2007, she toured with the Dolls in support of their multi-million selling album PCD. She was one of the three lead vocalists in the group, and had lead parts in the songs “We Went as Far as We Felt Like Going”, “Beep”, “Buttons”, “I Don’t Need a Man”, “Hot Stuff (I Want You Back)”, “Right Now” and “Tainted Love”, “Fever”, “Whole Lotta Love”, among others. In February 2008, reports surfaced that she was leaving the Pussycat Dolls to pursue solo projects. On March 8, 2008, Bachar officially announced her departure from the Pussycat Dolls on the group’s official website. Thornton gave Bachar special thanks in the ‘Thank You’ section of the Pussycat Dolls’ second album Doll Domination. In November 2019, it was announced that the group had reformed and were going on a reunion tour in 2020. On December 5, Carmit Bachar and Jessica Sutta announced during an interview with Entertainment Tonight that a new album was in the works and on February 7, 2020, the group’s comeback single, “React” was released. The reunion tour was officially cancelled in January 2022.

ordy has been labeled the freshest face in pop according to iHeartMedia. Described by TIME Magazine as “conversational, singsong style, over bright, undeniably joyful pop beats,” JORDY’s EP titled Long Distance, blew up the TikTok charts and had Meghan Trainor proclaiming “This is my JAMMMM”, featuring fan favorite’s such as “I Just Wanna Be Loved”, “Tomorrow” ft. OSTON and viral hit “Long Distance”, which grew to a 1.4 million fan base and was #4 on Apple Music’s New Releases. Music started early for the Illinois native who grew up in a household that not only valued, but encouraged music. He was heavily involved in musical theatre and show choir, which not only served as a creative outlet but ignited a passion for music that continues to guide his work today. Crediting his early influences as Hilary Duff, Michelle Branch, Avril Lavigne, and The Spice Girls, his own tracks encapsulate similar glimmering, bouncy 90’s pop sound and diary-entry-esque bops. JORDY not only brings his warmth and dream-like vocals to his songs, but his impressive songwriting abilities, which is a cornerstone of his creative process. Living in Boston for college allowed JORDY to immerse himself in the local music scene, playing gigs at bars all over the city and perfecting his sound until his eventual move to Los Angeles to further pursue a music career. It was in the City of Angels that JORDY turned a heartbreak into the fuel for some of his more

t

notable tracks, such as “Just Friends” and “Better By Myself.” The burgeoning artist quickly found his footing with all-too-relatable catchy tracks, that resonated with listeners everywhere and put JORDY on the map as a pop act to watch. EP Psycho was spotlighted by the critically acclaimed TIME Magazine as “conversational, sing-song style, over bright, undeniably joyful pop beats.” With a budding following, JORDY explored Tik Tok in an effort to share his music with the world. What started out as a research tool to connect with fans during the pandemic became an unexpected success. Dance/pop hit “Long Distance” quickly blew up with JORDY’s account garnering over 135.5k followers and over 625,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. The track, which details the heartache of a long distance relationship during COVID, quickly found company as many listeners related to the uncertainty and loneliness of the pandemic. Now, fresh off of an appearance on The Today Show, JORDY inked a deal with 300 Entertainment and is looking forward to new music on the horizon. JORDY is gearing up for his first full-length album, coming this September.
