From classic snow sports to charming, family-friendly events, there’s something for everyone to enjoy on your winter escape with Capital Vacations. Get excited to brave the cold or bring winter with you on a sunny escape, when you vacation at a Club resort with our winter activity guide.
Snowshoeing
A fun alternative to hiking, snowshoeing allows guests to explore areas that might be inaccessible by regular trails due to deep snow. It’s a peaceful, low-impact activity suitable for all ages, providing a great way to immerse in the beauty of winter.
Skiing and Snowboarding
For thrill-seekers, skiing and snowboarding are perfect ways to enjoy winter’s snowy landscapes. Many Capital Vacations resorts are conveniently located near ski areas where members can hit the slopes, whether they’re seasoned experts or trying it out for the first time. Equipment rentals and lessons are often available for beginners, making it an accessible adventure for all.
Active Outdoor Adventures
Tubing and Sledding
Few winter activities are as fun and accessible as tubing and sledding. Club members can find nearby hills perfect for a day of sliding down snowcovered slopes. These activities are great for families, as they’re simple yet exhilarating for kids and adults alike. Be sure to check-out night sledding at a local ski slope – and bring some neon glowsticks to track your kids as they fly down the hill.
Ice Skating
Ice skating is a timeless winter pastime, and whether you’re mastering your skills or laughing your way around the rink, it’s a wonderful way to celebrate winter’s charm. Some of our favorite winter resorts are just steps away from outdoor rinks, offering a magical experience beneath the open sky. Afterward, treat yourself to a warm cup of cocoa—topped with extra marshmallows, of
Winter Hiking
Reward yourself with the tranquility of the outdoors with a winter hike. Trails take on a whole new character in the winter, with snow-dusted trees, crisp air, and a stillness that is invigorating. The quiet surroundings provide the perfect escape for those seeking solitude and scenic beauty. Just be sure to bundle up, wear sturdy boots with good traction, follow local

hiking guidelines, and take your time to savor the winter scenery!
Ice Fishing:
For a truly unique winter experience, try ice fishing. Many lakes near Capital Vacations resorts offer ice fishing excursions, where members can set up on the frozen lake, drill a hole, and drop a line. It’s a calm, rewarding way to spend time outdoors, especially when you catch a fish! Some guided ice fishing experiences even provide heated shelters and equipment for beginners.
Curling:
Another rare winter sport to try is curling, a fun and social game that’s great for groups or families. Some resorts have access to nearby curling clubs where guests can learn the basics and enjoy a friendly match. It’s a unique experience that combines technique and strategy in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

For an adrenaline rush, some resorts offer winter ziplining, allowing you to soar above snowy treetops and get a bird’s-eye view of the beautiful winter scenery. This activity is perfect for those looking
Family–Friendly Fun
to add a bit of thrill to their winter getaway.
Ugly Sweater Outing:
Embrace the holiday spirit by planning an “ugly sweater” outing. Encourage everyone in the family to wear their quirkiest, funniest, or most festive sweater. You can take photos, enjoy a stroll around the resort, or even have a mini fashion show. It’s a lighthearted way to add a touch of holiday cheer to your winter adventures. Hint: Give out prizes to encourage everyone to participate!
Snow Angel Making:
A simple but delightful winter activity, making snow angels is a fun way for families to enjoy the snow together. Kids and adults alike can lay down in the snow and create their own angel shapes—a timeless activity that brings smiles and laughter.
Decorate a Snowman:
Building a snowman is a winter classic, but why not add a creative twist by decorating it with accessories? Families can use scarves, hats, ribbon, jewelry, and more to give their snowman a unique character. This fun activity is a fantastic way to spend time together and add some personality to your winter wonderland.
Friendly Winter Competitions:
Nothing brings families together like a bit of friendly competition. Organize a winter-themed event with fun challenges such as:
Frozen T-shirt Race: Before the race, soak a few t-shirts in water and leave them outside to freeze. The race involves trying to “unfreeze” and put on the frozen shirt—definitely harder than it sounds, but sure to bring plenty of laughs!
Snowball Toss : Create targets or buckets in the snow and challenge each other to toss snowballs into them. Award points for each successful toss and crown a winner!
Snow Sculpting Contest: For a creative twist on building a snowman, challenge family members to sculpt anything they like out of snow. This can lead to some impressive creations and makes for fantastic photos to remember the day by.
Winter Scavenger Hunt
Create a list of winter-themed items to find, such as pinecones, icicles, or animal tracks in the snow. Head out as a family and see who can find the most items on the list.
Cozy Indoor Activities
This is an excellent way for kids to learn about nature while having fun in the great outdoors.
While winter is perfect for outdoor activities, sometimes it’s nice to stay warm indoors. Here are a few ideas:
Hot Chocolate by the Fire:
After a day out in the snow, there’s nothing better than warming up with a cup of hot chocolate by a cozy fire. Many resorts have lounge areas or fireplaces where guests can relax, sip their drinks, and unwind.
Game Night:
Gather the family for a night of board games or card games. It’s a simple yet enjoyable way to spend time together and wind down after an active day. Ask the front desk if they have any board games you can borrow for the night.
Winter-Themed Crafts:
Embrace your creative side with winter crafts like decorating holiday ornaments, making paper snowflakes, or designing cards. It’s a perfect activity for families with young children, offering plenty of indoor fun during those chilly days. For a stress-free experience, gather supplies ahead of time or stop by a local discount store to find affordable materials. Whether you’re crafting together or enjoying some quiet creativity, it’s a cozy way to make the most of the winter season.
By embracing winter and all the activities it offers, Capital Vacations Club members can create unforgettable memories with family and friends. Whether you’re looking to get active outdoors or enjoy cozy moments indoors, there’s no shortage of ways to celebrate the season. So grab your warmest gear, gather your loved ones, and get ready for a winter full of fun and adventure!

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our guests who showed patience and understanding when their vacations were affected. We fully recognize the inconvenience caused and are incredibly grateful for your flexibility. By adjusting your reservations or making alternative plans, you played a vital role in ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
