N.W.A: Story to Fame N.W.A, from Compton California, was the first gangster rap group to become famous. This is their story from past to present.

How they met: N.W.A. consisted of 4 people; Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and MC Ren. Dr. Dre wanted to start a record label. Dre was living in Compton California where he met Eazy-E and then met Ice Cube because he was friends with Dre’s cousin. Mc Ren joined the group because he was good friends with Easy E.

How they became famous:

Their debut studio album, Straight Outta Compton in 1988, was referred to as reality rap. One month after releasing the Straight Outta Compton album, Eaz-E made his solo album called Easy Duz. In 1989 Straight Outta Compton was re-issued and re-released as N.W.A and The Posse on CD. The N.W.A Posse cut ‘’The Grand Finale” which became the number one album for the record label.

How they broke up: N.W.A. was one shortest lived musical groups. In December of 1989, Ice Cube left the group because he was not getting paid as he primarily wrote the music for the group. In 1991, after their final album, Dr. Dre left the group because Eazy-E allegedly was being coerced, by the group’s manager, into signing contracts which gave them surprisingly small amounts individually of what was earned by the group collectively. This led to a bitter rivalry between Easy E and Dr. Dre. Had EazyE signed more equitable contracts with Dre it’s almost a certainty that they could have remained at least business partners, if not friends, in the last years

before his death. However, by signing contracts which essentially cheated his bandmates, Eazy-E alienated them and ended his relationships with them. It is unfortunate that the group no longer exists, but they rule gangster rap for life.
