www.seafoodcornwalltraining.co.uk There is funding available for experienced fishermen (minimum 6 months fishing experience) to refresh their basic training and take courses towards their Under 16.5m Skippers Ticket or Certificate of Competence. Candidates must already hold all four basic safety certificates and have completed their Safety Awareness. We will apply to Seafish on your behalf.

* Update on Stability courses requirement for the Under 16.5m Skipper’s Ticket : Both the Restricted and Unrestricted Under 16.5m Skipper’s Ticket requirement include two 1 day courses on stability awareness entitled Stability Awareness for Experienced Fishermen (formerly Intermediate Stability) and Advanced Stability Awareness. Anyone who completed the Intermediate Stability Awareness course before 1st July 2017 has until 31st December to conclude all their training and apply for their Skipper’s Certificate without the need to complete this Advanced Stability course. From 1st Jan 2018, all fishermen will be required to complete both courses. It is strongly recommended that all fishermen holding the u16.5m Skipper’s Ticket do this Advanced Qualification while free funding is still available.

Another successful Introduction to Commercial Fishing course This group of 7 trainees (2 not pictured) graduated on 13 October after an intense and broad SeaFish Introduction to Commercial Fishing course. The graduates spent 15 days training on shore, learning about operation of fishing vessels, many different fishing methods and how to behave on board. They graduate with their Basic Sea Safety Certificates and now comply with all the relevant mandatory certification to work as commercial fishermen. The course is provided free of charge thanks to funding support received from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).
