There is funding available for experienced fishermen (minimum 6 months fishing experience) to refresh their basic training and take courses towards their Under 16.5m Skippers Ticket or Certificate of Competence. Candidates must already hold all four basic safety certificates and have completed their Safety Awareness. SCT will apply to Seafish on your behalf.

IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT FUNDING FOR TRAINING COURSES Although funding is currently available in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, this funding is only guaranteed until the 31st March 2018. So make sure you take advantage of this great opportunity before it’s too late. Act now. Don't delay.

CHANGES to VHF PROCEDURE From 1 February 2018, all candidates for the VHF course have to register online with the RYA to pay the £60 licence fee and download their application in advance of the course taking place.

If you are considering obtaining your skipper’s certificate, we strongly recommend you complete Stability, Navigation, Engineering and Short Range Radio courses before the end of March. If you need Safety Awareness training to be eligible for funding (an essential prerequisite), we offer this course on 19 February.
