CCR5 encodes a member of the beta chemokine receptor family, which is predicted to be a seven transmembrane protein similar to G protein-coupled receptors. By radiation hybrid mapping, Liu et al. (1996) localized the CCR5 gene (designated CKR5 by them) to chromosome 3p21.
